Digital Devices Endanger Children!

I've written about the problem as a medical/mental health journalist. You need to know how to be protective of your health and that of youngsters too naive or too lacking in self-control when it comes to digital device usage. Too much of it endangers health, especially that of developing brains!

I've long known about digital dangers. The Global Resources section of the FIRST EDITION Of EMPOWER Yourself to Cope with a Medical Challenge listed book titles on that topic. That's why I have a landline and prefer to limit my use of a cellphone.

It's a sad statement of affairs when parents are too busy to mind their children. There is such richness to enjoy when you teach a child how to be sociable, how to master desired skills, how to love. The consequences of letting a fussy, sad, or frightened child play with a digital device when they need a parent's warm hug or assuring words is so damn damaging. If an autistic, ADD or ADHD child is pacified with devices, it destroys so much potential for their developing character.

YES, I sympathize with an adult's need to chill, to let the toy take over while mom or dad rest and recharge their own batteries. But that is a far cry from using the digital device as a pet sitter one day after the other. Children are human beings, with a 20-year lifespan to grow up. Parents are supposed to use that time building relationships, teaching the skills, etc.
