A 4-Point Plan for a Summer Without Bug-Bites!

B'SD

9 Tamuz 5769

I live in a HOT, humid climate and
wow it brings out biting bugs.
But I don't scratch at bites all day and night.

I use lavender oil.

Yep, mosquitos dislike the scent of lavender oil. Here's more good news: lavender oil is not just for females.

MEN can also use lavender oil without ruining a manly image.

Apply it when you go to sleep.

Here's your 4-Point Plan for preventing bug bites:

Place a drop of the oil on your

1. Hands
2. Feet
3. Hair line
4. and on your Face.

A few drops on the pillow is nice.

Wives might like that ;^ )

If you prefer not to smear lavender oil on your skin, add a few drops to the water bowl of an incense burner. Or use citronella oil if you prefer (but not on your skin). Ignite a tea-light candle in the designated area below. Now relax as the air clears out from buggy problems.

Hmm, let's make this a 5-Point Plan for a summer without mosquito bites. Did you know that mosquitoes lo-o-o-ve the blood of people who drink animal milk? Now you know to stay away from dairy. ALL dairy.

Okay, okay, you want ice cream. And milk on your cereal. Definitely dairy. So, let's cope with the reality.

Drink Sheba (Wormwood) tea. Buy it with your vial of lavender oil from the local health foods market or if you're in the right part of the world, at your regular grocery store.

Sleep like a baby tonight! And take on the itchless day.

Why Did a Reader Decide that YOU Need to Read "It's MY Crisis!" ?

Readers of "It's MY Crisis! And I'll Cry If I Need To" contact me from time to time via E-mail or the "Comments" button below. One reader recently zapped her favorable book report to me, appreciating the fact that it IS "A Life Book that Helps You to Dry Your Tears and to Cope with a Medical Challenge."

Read on:

It’s MY Crisis!
And I’ll Cry if I Need To
Book Review by Valerie Farber

I’m very fortunate that I cannot remember any major medical crises in my life, but reading Yocheved Golani’s book, It’s MY Crisis! And I’ll Cry if I Need To (ISBN 978-1-60145-278-8, published by Booklocker.com, Inc.) made me aware how psychologically tumultuous it is to be dealt a life-threatening medical prognosis.

Yocheved was (it turns out) temporarily blinded because of the presence of a benign tumor deep in her brain. Two prominent neurosurgeons refused to operate on her as the tumor was lodged in an area that controlled breathing, head motion, vision, hearing, and facial sensation. Another surgeon, though, agreed to operate on Yocheved, but made no promises.

Yocheved is supremely qualified to write a self-help book for surviving medical trauma.

It’s MY Crisis! And I’ll Cry if I Need To describes Yocheved’s odyssey in battling disease. To slay her dragons, she drew on her strongest resources: deep religious faith, knowing herself, and recognition that optimism was her lifeblood and depression a slow-acting poison.

Yocheved recommends letting yourself cry if needed at the initial prognosis, positive thought, indoctrinating yourself with a healing mantra, joking, developing an arsenal of mood-savers like perusing your favorite photo albums, and absolutely forbidding your friends to obsessively discuss your medical condition.

Yocheved also gives good-sense logistical advice such as being knowledgeable about the procedures you will undergo, having an assertive friend ask medical questions if you are too shy to do so (being shy myself, this one was my favorite), and what items to bring to the hospital when you are admitted.

It’s MY Crisis! And I’ll Cry if I Need To presents a comprehensive list of medical resources and patients’ associations. Consulting with others who have undergone similar medical procedures is informative and can reduce trepidation [fear].

For me the most memorable part of the book is Yocheved’s amazing post-operative recovery story. Since recuperation was slow and Yocheved’s vision was improving only slightly, Yocheved pursued unorthodox healing methods. She adopted a regime of a highly organic diet, natural juices, and related healing methods. Over time, these natural cleansing methods purged toxins from her body and promoted full healing. Yocheved's vision improved, her physical strength is enviable and her skin glows.

Armed with deep faith, a spirit not-to-be crushed, and obvious Divine intervention, Yocheved has battled and survived. Read her book, savor her story and sage advice.

Most important of all, learn how you can mimic what she did.

Do You Know Which Book is Having a Snowball Effect on Medical and Mental Health Practitioners?

B'SD

3 Tamuz 5769

"It's MY Crisis! And I'll Cry if I Need To" is having something of a snowball effect on readers of the book and listeners to my radio interviews.

One reader and listener, a San Diego native who is a retired mental health professional, wrote to remark about my appearance on the Yishai Fleisher show the other day:

"Yocheved, nice job on the radio today.
You came across very well and very real.
Steve Sherr."

A CranioSacral therapist in my neighborhood (she sells copies of "It's MY Crisis!" to her clients) just gave a copy of "It's MY Crisis! And I'll Cry if I Need To" to a psychotherapist who uses the office next door. Why? "Because it'll be a good addition to her practice," I was told.

Hmm, that's a growing consensus among medical and mental health practitioners who've read the book. Why might that be?

Because it definitely is
"A Life Book that Helps You to
Dry Your Tears and to
Cope with a Medical Challenge."

What Can a Doctor Do When HE or SHE Suffers a Medical Crisis?

B'SD

2 Tamuz 5769

Months ago, I sent the manuscript for the sequel of "It's MY Crisis!" to a radiologist - he's also a medical ethicist no less - whose articles appear on the 'Net from time to time. I asked him to read the manuscript and to provide "praise" for the back cover as the medical ethicist he is.

Well, life is full of surprises. Read what happened as you follow the doctor's reply to me below:

"Dear Yocheved,

Thank you for sending me the second edition of your book, It's MY Crisis! And I'll Cry If I Need To: A Life Book that Helps You to Dry Your Tears and to Cope with a Medical Challenge.

I received the book one week after I suffered my own medical crisis and found it very helpful. I think the book will be of great benefit both in dealing with the fragile emotional health of sick patients and the stressful situation of the patient's caregiver.

Possibly more importantly, the book offers very practical comprehensive information for dealing with a health-related crisis that is so seldom available to someone who is ill and preoccupied with their own troubles.

When a person is ill, they are by nature in a compromised position and often do not know where to look for guidance. Putting so much useful information at their fingertips will help them navigate the difficulties of a confusing medical system.

Combined with the encouragement to never give up hope, the book will be of great aid to anyone with a sudden serious medical emergency.

Thank you again for sending me the book to review. Daniel Eisenberg, MD"

BTW, the good doctor is with the Department of Radiology at the Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia, PA; Assistant Professor of Diagnostic Imaging at Thomas Jefferson University School of Medicine; Medical Ethicist http://www.daneisenberg.com/

How to Become an Effective Coping Team In and Out of the Hospital

B'SD

1 Tamuz 5769

One item I wanted to mention on the air yesterday but couldn't due to time constraints is this: Families, friends and the sick person him or herself can become a very effective coping team.

Facing a frightening medical diagnosis and all the complications that go with it, is a road that you and your loved ones, friends and hospital acquaintances will explore and a situation you'll tame with time and patience.

Check out all your (or the person who is a patient) reactions to medications, procedures and information with the medical team, asking every question you can think of and then some.

Allow yourself and everyone else to discover potential inner strengths and to act on them.

One of the things common to anyone who suffers in any way is this: we never imagine being able to cope with or to overcome the problem. Then we accidentally discover our hidden strengths or decide to create some. After all is said and done, we look back and wonder "Wow? Who knew that he/we/she/I could be that strong?"

Take everything one step at a time. Delegate authority to relatives and friends who want to help out. Recharge your physical and emotional batteries.

Pray. Pray some more.

What will life be like when this is over? New, uncharted territory in which you'll know so much more about why you're a person worth admiring and why special people in your life are such heroes. Hang in there. I've done it. You can, too.

Two Terrific Ways to Restore Your Health!

B'SD

28 Sivan 5769

Facebookers have been referring their "friends" to this blog. So I'm going to reintroduce myself to readers new to this part of the blogosphere. Then I'm going to share 2 Terrific Ways to Restore Your Health!

Here's why your acquaintances
want you to know about
me, my book and its companion blog:

I moved to Israel in 2002, on the first Nefesh B'Nefesh plane. A week before Passover, 2005: I woke up blind and terrified to know it. I arrive at an emergency room, learn that I had been blinded by a benign brain tumor called a Petroclival Tentorial Meningioma (a benign brain tumor at the base of my skull). It's crushing all the nerves leaving my spine and entering my head.

This endangers my ability to have a heartbeat.

Doctors inform me that I'm close to death. They begin a global search for THE neurosurgeon (if such a surgeon exists) capable of removing the growth without killing me in the process.

I am brought home to wait out the search period, I pray around the clock and...

In August 2005 a neurosurgeon successfully performs emergency life-saving surgery to remove what we later learned were not 1 but 2 meningioma tumors.

Months of physical, speech and occupational therapy go by so that I can relearn how to use my arms and legs, build physical strength, and learn to speak clearly.

September 2006: I begin a healing diet plan, benefit from specific alternative healing techniques, start writing the "Crisis" book to explain to the world how I'm healing AND THEN...

I begin a new course of physical and occupational therapy to restore a sense of balance. Why? To counteract the vertigo that resulted from tumor-caused damage to my balance center and optic nerves. The vertigo is so severe that I lose my balance and suffer several broken bones within the next few years, including...

December 2007-January 2008: I lose my balance on a pedestrian walkway bypassing a highway, and suffer a crushed elbow (Hillary, I know EXACTLY how you feel!) days before New Year's 2008.

Orthopedic surgeons saving my crushed elbow observe that my other bones and muscles are comparable to those of a woman HALF my age! One of them later discussed with me how I'd accomplished that. The conversation was an eye-opener for him. He now owns a copy of my book.

My arm heals in a phenomenal Dynasplint arm brace that restretches my arm's connective tissue back to normal. BTW, I'm now Israel's only licensed marketer of Dynasplint's 40-item physical rehabilitation products line sized for infants, children and adults. See http://www.dynasplint.nl/en/

May 2009: Due to intense prayers, the alternative healing practices, and intentional optimism, I've recovered my vision (THANK YOU, G'D!!!!!!) so well that my eyeware prescription is lowered for the 12th time since the August 2005 surgery.

My former inability to walk straight, unassisted, is history. My vertigo, a result of the tumors and delayed surgery, is also resolving. Check out this photo of me making
fun of all that suffering when I dressed up as a "Boo-Boo Barbie" for Purim

And uh, my brain surgeon remarked last year that the annual MRIs are not showing much in terms of the scars of my experience. "Amazing," was all he could stammer. "Amazing." He now listens attentively when I speak of healing techniques used by the alternative healing practitioners mentioned in
"It's MY Crisis! And I'll Cry if I Need To: A Life Book that Helps You to Dry Your Tears and to Cope with a Medical Challenge."

Wanna be healthy? Here are 2 Terrific Ways to Achieve Your Goal:

1. Bring G'D into the details. Speak to The One Above as you would to a dear friend, the only friend who can help you (wait'll you read the part about what happened when a group of people prayed for me to heal and I didn't know about that!).

and...

2. Learn what I did in terms of natural/alternative and western medical healing therapies so you can mimic what I've done to restore my health and to even go beyond to better health than ever before.

BUY YOUR COPY OF "It's MY Crisis! And I'll Cry if I Need To: A Life Book that Helps You to Dry Your Tears and to Cope with a Medical Challenge" DIRECTLY FROM THE PUBLISHER, TODAY!

Breaking News from Brazil: Swine Flu is Changing

B'SD

25 Sivan 5769

I'm racing the clock to meet all my obligations this week. Meanwhile, here's breaking news about something I warned you of earlier - that Swine Flu H1N1 can change unpredictably:

Readers, my previous posts on the topic included WHO's expectations that the H1N1 virus could morph, change, into new strains.

Because nobody can predict how this situation will develop, and I suspect that it will get scarier over time, I suggest that you take a few more safety precautions.

Israel's Home Front Command has good ideas about how to prepare for an emergency. As in preparing now, not later. Later is usually too late. Get your gear together.

Do You Know What Men Need to Learn from Women?

B'SD

23 Sivan 5769

Cancer researchers in the United Kingdom know how to answer that question: take better care of your health!

They found that overall men are 40% more likely than women to die from cancer and 16% more likely to develop the disease in the first place.

Why?

The reluctance of men to adopt a healthy lifestyle and visit the doctor may be fuelling a gender gap in cancer cases and deaths...

A Kitchen Remedy for Ending Earache Pain?

B'SD

19 Sivan 5769

Here's the quick version of a totally unexpected medical discovery I made in the past 36 or so hours. It just might end your earache pain or someone else's:

I awoke screaming in pain at 5:00 AM yesterday. My ears and head were in painful agony. The first available appointment with an Ear, Nose, and Throat doctor in my area was scheduled for 4:00 PM, when she'd first arrive to the office.

I immediately began preparing an onion and garlic soup flavored with sea salt diet. That's all I consumed for the day: freshly made onion and garlic soup. Onion and garlic seem to pull germs and other garbage out of the human system. I drank water as I wished. And cried in pain.

The ENT examined my ears at 4:00 PM and remarked "I don’t understand how this could be. I checked your ears weeks ago for a routine exam. Everything was clear. You have a severe Middle Ear infection. Your tubes are so loaded with pus now that when I tested your hearing minutes ago, no sound registered in one of your ears. No sound at all! Have you been ill? You don't have a fever. Are you allergic? How on earth did so much pus build up this quickly?"

Nope, I hadn't been ill, and my allergies have all abated since I began eating only organic foods in 2006. Friends chuckle when I sit near their cats and don't even sniffle (I used to sneeze hard enough to wake the other side of the world when a cat came close to me).

The mystery deepened after I left the doctor's office. The pharmacy was out of simple aspirin and I couldn't get antibiotics either! I wondered, "How am I going to get through this agonizing pain?"

Neighbors gave me some over-the-counter pain medication. It hardly improved my level of comfort. Then a friend put drops of garlic oil with rosemary into my ears. The pain immediately ended! An hour later a weird popping, sizzling noise resounded in my head. I slept fitfully throughout the night as goo came gushing out of one ear.

I went to my personal physician this morning, to ask how to cope with the pinkish-yellow goo coming from my ears and by now my eyes (aren't you pleased I don't have relevant photos to share with you?). She confirmed my suspicions that blood and pus were exiting my ears due to a ruptured Eustacian Tube (the piece of ear anatomy connected to your Middle Ear and to the back of your nose).

I visited another pharmacy with a new prescription but it was closed. Whoa this was a setback!

I returned home, dizzy and in pain. I did not use more garlic-rosemary oil since that could endanger the now-open Eustacian Tube (it should only hold body-created fluids, nothing else).

I placed a towel over my pillow and lowered my head for what became a 4-hour nap. I awoke to find a crusted-over towel filled with the now-dry goo that had drained from my head as I had slept. My pain was gone.

Oh, why did I suddenly awake after 4 hours despite a sleepless night?
I had heard children playing outside my bedroom window. Their soft voices woke me from that deep nap. That meant that my hearing had improved!

I'm not planning to run to a third pharmacy searching for the prescribed antibiotic. I'm pain-free and fully functional after the onion-garlic soup and garlic-with rosemary oil drops cleared up my ear infection.

Folks, I advocate organic food lifestyles, but this "No antibiotic, just food, rest and oil" remedy was not anything I'd have considered. I like benefiting from medical wonders such as antibiotics and painkillers.

It simply turned out that I couldn't get hold of any, and the on-hand natural remedies worked wonderfully.

Garlic oil with rosemary, prepared in clean surroundings and 2 or 3 drops into the ear: A wonder I never knew existed until today.

I hope this unexpected experience will help you to end earache agony. Let me know if it does.
