How a Calming Conversation Can Improve Your Health

B'SD

14 Elul, 5774

What a conversation! Someone called me this afternoon, my time.

The caller related her several severe medical issues and that a friend in another country calmed her with the words "You need to get a book written by this Israeli lady, Golani is her name. It motivates you to take the actions you need and even tells you how to take those actions! I know someone who has it. It changed their life."

So, the counseled caller looks up my contact info and asks, "How do I get the book?"

"Easily," I told her. "Go online and order it from the publisher, Booklocker, which sends it faster than any book shop, even faster than the online book outlets."

She breathed a sigh of relief and mentioned that she felt better already.

I'm always impressed at how far word travels, and so grateful that my efforts help people. I have no idea who the people mentioned above may be. It's an exciting feeling to know that I've helped people I might never meet.

Taking Responsibility for Your Medical Needs

B'SD

26/27 Iyar , 5774

Gosh I miss you! I am so burdened with medical coding studies homework and preparing for multiple final exams plus my licensing exams that I lack the free time I want to post to this blog more often.

You'll benefit from my studious, focus, though. I'm learning about important issues that can affect your medical futures. After my academic load lightens up, I can share relevant information with you. Meanwhile, here's this medical update about an underreporting of deaths in New York:

"WCBS 880′s Monica Miller reports that the health department’s bureau of vital statistics reported only a fraction of deaths caused by accidents or preventable medical complications compared to the medical examiner’s office.

"Using the health department’s statistics, they would rank as the 10th leading cause of death in the city if they were considered to be a disease — surpassing homicides and suicides in some years."

My reaction to the above?
OY!!!!!!!

I pray that improvements will be made with appropriate motivation from all concerned, especially on the heels of the VA hospital scandal.

The moral and life lesson here is that YOU need to take responsibility for meeting your medical needs.

Need to calm down from your medical concerns and all the appointment chaos in your life?

Want cost-cutting solutions to your medical appliance, medication and related needs?

Care to learn what to say to people who should be serving your medical needs better than they do now?

You just might find the answers you need in E-book or print edition EMPOWER Yourself to Cope with a Medical Challenge. Buy a copy for yourself or someone who needs it.

Figure out what needs to be done, then do it with decency.

Healthcare as a Commodity? Here's a Solution.

B'SD

14 Tishrei, 5774

Spell it as you prefer: Health care, healthcare or *~^%$#@!!!! (add an extra *¡¿₪£€&a;%$!!! if you wish)

Healthcare as a commodity has been a debate and a nerve-wracking reality for some time. PBS/Dr Marcia Angell have remarked on it. So have Seacoast, USNewsandWorld Report, and other venues.

A right, a privilege, whatever you choose to call it, health care has become a competitive activity.

Well, securing it has, anyway.

The question
is answered with humor and facts
at Quarks.

As I proceed with my ICD-10 medical coding studies, classmates and I learn about prohibitive insurance clauses and limitations, far more than I'd already known of or suspected.

Medical insurance issues are not a patient-friendly environment.

So I did something to minimize, perhaps solve, the problem.

Need to get out of the downward spiral?

Find resources you, a child or someone else need for quality

  • Medical care,
  • Medical appliances,
  • Medical transportation,
  • and other medical needs - worldwide - in the informative print or E-book edition of

Medical and mental health professional recommend it
on and off the cover.

So does a medical ethicist.

A medical crisis - you'd cry (or curse) too - if it happened to you.

Use your tissues and handkerchiefs with my blessings borne of experience. GOD gives you Permission to Weep. And you can say that to any critics after explaining that "It's MY Crisis! And I'll Cry if I Need To."

Then resolve to solve your problems as best you can.

Oh - here's How to BE CAREFUL when you buy a  drug discount card!

Stand By for Updates

B'SD

23/24 Iyar 5772

I'm not sure how much online time I'll be sharing after tomorrow. I'm scheduled for outpatient surgery and I'll need time to heal for a few days. If you don't hear from me, know that I'll be reading print materials, chatting with people face to face or sitting in my lovely garden to soak up healing sun rays, pretty sights and honeysuckle perfume. Ahh...

Why am I in so little pain and not even flustered over impending medical care? I read EMPOWER Yourself to Cope with a Medical Challenge! Buy it from Booklocker at  http://booklocker.com/books/3067.html.

Why Life is a Work in Progress - and What You Can Do About That

B'SD

17 Nisan 5772

You just learned that you might have a medical problem. Your life might even be on the line. Or maybe you're facing some other issue that feels like the wrecking ball of your life. There are times I comfort someone deeply unhappy with the way their life is going: abusive relatives or acquaintances (they're definitely NOT friends!), choices that backfired, scary news of some sort.

Heartache, physical pain, emotional upheaval, mental or physical workouts and expenses of different kinds can be part of the picture. They sap energy and sometimes hope. That's normal.
Are you condemning yourself for pulling back, for withdrawing from some activities and situations? Are you loading up on feel-good calories that will bloat you? Have you done something else you hate to realize?

The good news is that you're aware of better choices you can make.

Let's look at some of your options.

"The road to success is almost always under construction," I comment to troubled people. "Sometimes you just need time and rest to recover from the strain of it all. Then you can pick up where you left off. You might even have thought through some innovative ideas to help you along while you recovered from a sense of shock and sadness."

The nifty thing about that recovery period is that it lets you charge up your emotional and physical batteries. Ready to be exceptional, to rise above the turmoil? How about just coping with the adversity in a way that restores your self-respect? Okay, here are three terrific tips for doing just that:

1. Make a list of your inner
negative beliefs on
the left side of some paper

2. List your survival instincts
in the middle column,
pairing them with
problems you're facing

3. On the right margin,
briefly state the positive
and negative thoughts
or reactions you have
to specific problems

Discuss all that with someone who totally respects you and can provide you with insight for how to have a better future. Face your unfolding future with empowering statements of "I will..." such as "I will control my eating behaviors," "I will plan a realistic budget," "I will find out how to behave in better ways with X, Y or Z problems."

You can start crossing off the negativity notes as you make progress with your unfolding future. You're realizing your better self, now.

If you want more ideas about how to put some order in your life, read the organization tips in

Your life is making progress. Treat yourself well for the hard work and focus  you've invested in the effort.

Do You Need Help to Make the Best of Your Medical Mess?

B'SD

Tamuz 3 5770

US TV personality Art Linkletter's terrific technique for overcoming setbacks and tragedies in life is this idea: “Things turn out best for the people who make the best out of the way things turn out.”

You can do that with YOUR medical situation. Read iPhone-friendly E-book It's MY Crisis! And I'll Cry If I Need To: EMPOWER Yourself to Cope with a Medical Challenge. It tells you how.

Need more proof than
yesterday's book review
by a happy reader?
Read on.

"I received EMPOWER Yourself to Cope with a Medical Challenge one week after I suffered my own medical crisis and found it very helpful. [It] will be of great benefit both in dealing with the fragile emotional health of sick patients and the stressful situation of the patient's caregiver… [with] very practical comprehensive information for dealing with a health-related crisis that is so seldom available to someone who is ill and preoccupied with their own troubles. Ill people are often compromised and often don't know where to look for guidance. Putting so much useful information at their fingertips will help them navigate the difficulties of a confusing medical system. Combined with [the author's] encouragement to never give up hope, the book will be of great aid to anyone with a sudden serious medical emergency." - Daniel Eisenberg, MD, Department of Radiology at the Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia, PA; Assistant Professor of Diagnostic Imaging at Thomas Jefferson University School of Medicine; Medical Ethicist

Do it Yourself Health Care that's Private and Affordable

B'SD

9 Nisan 5770

Check out this GOOGLE SEARCH about Health Care Reform Dangers!

Health care reform in the US is filled with unknowns bound to hurt defenseless innocents (e.g., your medical records might not remain private and your state's budget might be ruined with it).

Here's a self-help solution that calms readers, helps the ill and their loved ones to strategize coping mechanisms, and clues readers in to free or low-cost quality medical care, medical appliances, medications, medical transport and much, much more. Read doctor-recommended E-book
"It's MY Crisis! And I'll Cry If I Need To: EMPOWER Yourself to Cope with a Medical Challenge."

The book has held the #2 spot at the Musella Foundation's Recommended Reading list since November 2 2008 re: the publication of the 2007 print edition.

It's affordable. And only YOU will control the private medical and mental health information added to it's fill-in-the-blank pages.

Lifesaving, Emotionally Rewarding, Funny & Helpful from Cover to Cover!

B'SD

12 Tishrei 5770

When my Self-Help Coaching clients or fans of my book ask me how I helped myself to recover from devastating medical problems, and what YOU need to do to cope with your medical situation, I reply:

"I look at what's going right, NOT at what's going wrong with a given situation. I do the same with clients of my Self-Help Coaching services. My brain - and yours - already knows what went kerflooey. No reminders are necessary. By reassessing the situation, we seek out what works as a coping mechanism, then build on that. Capitalizing on and expanding existing skills and insights builds resilience, teaching you how to be strong and how to expand strengths you already have."

Sounds kind of dull, hmmm? The dancing, traveling, gardening, laughing, sports, hobbies

and strength-building I do and advocate sure aren't.

B'SD

5 Elul 5769

Readers, I'll be very real with you. I've mustered up my courage to go ahead with the original plan for an E-book. Here's why:

I began receiving requests to create
dedicated editions of the printed version.

Businesses and charitable organizations asked "Is it possible to make this book into
something we can present to our clients or supporters, a customized edition - a gift bearing our company name?"

You bet it's possible!

I've overcome my shock at the kerflooey which affected my first E-authorship attempt.

I coached myself to see the upside
of some wonderful possibilities.

Contact me to explore your options for imprinting a dedication page in the printed format of EMPOWER Yourself to Cope with a Medical Challenge.

If your recipients enjoy being green, conservation, organics and organic products, they'll appreciate the book very much. EMPOWER Yourself (and this blog) teach money-saving strategies to improve your health without harming the environment. In fact, the book teaches how to benefit from the world of natural cures as well as traditional Western medical practices. Without hurting your wallet or the planet ;^ )

How to Become an Effective Coping Team In and Out of the Hospital

B'SD

1 Tamuz 5769

One item I wanted to mention on the air yesterday but couldn't due to time constraints is this: Families, friends and the sick person him or herself can become a very effective coping team.

Facing a frightening medical diagnosis and all the complications that go with it, is a road that you and your loved ones, friends and hospital acquaintances will explore and a situation you'll tame with time and patience.

Check out all your (or the person who is a patient) reactions to medications, procedures and information with the medical team, asking every question you can think of and then some.

Allow yourself and everyone else to discover potential inner strengths and to act on them.

One of the things common to anyone who suffers in any way is this: we never imagine being able to cope with or to overcome the problem. Then we accidentally discover our hidden strengths or decide to create some. After all is said and done, we look back and wonder "Wow? Who knew that he/we/she/I could be that strong?"

Take everything one step at a time. Delegate authority to relatives and friends who want to help out. Recharge your physical and emotional batteries.

Pray. Pray some more.

What will life be like when this is over? New, uncharted territory in which you'll know so much more about why you're a person worth admiring and why special people in your life are such heroes. Hang in there. I've done it. You can, too.

OW That Hurts!

6 Shvat 5768

I apologize for the unexpected, longish break in my posts. I was badly injured in an accident that damaged bones in my dominant arm. The doctor who initially treated me misdiagnosed the fractures, then gave me the wrong type of cast and an ineffective sling. My pain was indescribable.

I later entered a hospital emergency room on December 30 2007 and eventually received orthopedic surgery. I came home 10 days later, just before this weekend. I am grateful to my surgeon, who dealt with my complex case in a realistic and competent fashion. We're giving my arm a few weeks to heal by letting it rebuild healthy new bone. Then I'll need physical therapy once my immobilizing arm-brace is removed.

***
The horrific mismanagement of my medical emergency plus the nature of the freakish accident will likely be the bases for one of my future feature stories for the press. Editors and publishers are welcome to contact me for comments.
***

I'll update my blog with news about my book as I'm able.

Offbeat as this "marketing strategy" may be, I gave a few hospital staff members copies of It's MY Crisis! And I’ll Cry if I Need To. The result? Chaya Har-El, head of social work services at Hadassah Ein Kerem recommended to administrative heads that my book be offered to English-speaking patients of Hadassah Hospital. My surgeon grinned as he looked over his edition and shook my uninjured hand. Ask for a copy if you're ever in Hadassah Hospital.

Meanwhile, if you're in Israel and NOT hospitalized, buy It's MY Crisis! And I’ll Cry if I Need To at Pomeranz Books on Rechov Beeri 5 in Jerusalem. Online purchases can be made through

You Can Now BUY THE BOOK

21 Elul, 5767

My publisher took Labor Day Weekend seriously, making sure that you can buy my book. Booklocker has a reputation for delivering books by its authors faster than other book vendors. After all, it is the source of materials by Booklocker authors. Go to http://www.booklocker.com/books/3067.html

You can also purchase copies at Amazon.com, but it might be slower to arrive: http://www.amazon.com/Its-Crisis-Ill-Cry-Need/dp/1601452780/ref=sr_1_3/105-0730610-7576447?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1188900605&sr=8-3

My book teaches readers how to cope with medical crises emotionally, spiritually and practically. The Resources section informs readers of how to join clinical trials, find cutting-edge professionals, suggested reading materials, resources for ethnic groups with specific disease issues, and more. I recommend that readers buy directly from my publisher so they can receive it faster than through other channels.

Share my book with friends and loved ones. Heal together.

People Around the World Want Information From My Book! I Can Share it on Airwaves in Print and Online.

July 3, 17 Tamuz 5767

Soon after word was out in 2006 that I'd begun writing my book, people began contacting me to learn about its content. The phenomenon continues until today. These folks want to prolong or to save someone's life and the quality of that life.

A medical crisis affects everyone in the family, as well as the friends and colleagues of the affected individual.

I've been contacted by all kinds of people urgently seeking the coping skills information and the contact information for therapists with cutting-edge treatments/healing therapies that are in my book. Those seekers of information hail from the UK, Europe, the USA and Middle East. They are family, friends and other acquaintances of the ill person they wish to help.

The pace has increased since I gave my speech in Jerusalem. A man wants to save someone with a brain tumor in Belgrade, an American woman wants to find out new ways to treat breast cancer, someone in South Africa needs to know about above-average help for someone with ADD, an Irish lass wants to learn about still another form of rescue. I've even been asked to use my own Life Coaching skills on someone suffering mental anguish and I'm not even a therapist. That person heard about me from someone associated with my Life Coaching course, then remembered hearing about me after my recent speech in Jerusalem.

I welcome book store owners to contact me to speak about my book in their shops. Media people can schedule interviews with me. All you have to do is to send a message to giveretgolani@gmail.com.

Book reviews are already scheduled to appear in Israeli magazines and US newspapers.

Let your readers, listeners and viewers learn how to dry their tears and to cope better with a medical crisis. Contact me to schedule an interview appointment. I look forward to hearing from you!

If you wish to receive a Media Release with my publisher's information and more exciting news from me, let me know at giveretgolani@gmail.com.

You and/or a Loved One are Struggling with Physical and Emotional Pain. Read on to Learn Some Coping Mechanisms from my Book

May 10/ Iyar 22 5767

Nancy Rosenfeld, author of Just as Much as Woman: Your Personal Guide to Hysterectomy and Beyond, and Unfinished Journey: Two People, Two Worlds, From Tyranny to Freedom says that my manuscript is "compelling, inspiring, and merits publication."

Here are some selections from "It's MY Crisis." They demonstrate a few major points in my text:

Count Your Blessings

You're on an adventure. It has scary parts, laugh-out-loud goof ups and other silly things to chuckle about, a lot of work and so much more. As you travel on your tailor-made trail to improved health of any kind (mental, emotional, and spiritual), crummy, disappointing things happen to you. Wonderful things happen also.

Make a list of all the wonderful things that happen for you. It could be the unexpected smile someone gave to you, or the clear weather that let you reach an appointment without struggling in rain, ice or snow. It might be the patience of a person whose attention you need. It could be a medical miracle, little or big. Maybe you received a gift or bonus of some kind.

List your blessings, the gifts that GOD gave to you as you cope with your medical crisis and/or that of your loved one (you and your loved one can prepare this list together).

Boredom!
It is boring to get better. I mean it. Doctors, friends, family and your conscience will tell you (repeatedly) to go at a slow pace, not to overdo things, to take it easy and ... oh, anything you can think of that means dull, uninteresting and crawling up the walls because you have nothing fun or worthwhile to do. And how much fun can it be to count the dust bunnies under your bed or spider webs on the ceiling?

The good news is that the advice is meant to be good for you. Your body is adjusting to a new and stressful reality with its medical challenge or crisis.

Even though your brain thinks as it always has, your body is not being what is used to be. And when a medically challenged person makes too much demand of a weakened body, then the only defense your poor physique has is to arrest you! Yep, your muscles, bones, blood levels, energy waves and everything else will be so desperate for a chance to heal, you task driver you, that the whole system will up and quit so it can TAKE A REST!

Somebody else will have to do the laundry, drive the car pool, meet a deadline or mow the lawn. Your disappointment is the size of Texas, and we'll deal with that in a bit. First, let's focus on a recess from your busy schedule.
