Reversing a Prognosis with Optimism and...

B'SD

19 Nisan 5772

A happy-go-lucky woman in Israel wakes up blind in 2005. She soon learns in an emergency room that she is dying. Then she has emergency brain surgery and loses the benign brain tumor that had blinded her and almost ended her ability to breathe.

One year later in 2006, medical experts inform the weak, thin woman that she will never see again. And here she is in 2012, typing this blogpost to you - after she wrote a book to help ill and disabled people around the world!

Medical and mental health professionals recommend  It's MY Crisis! And I'll Cry If I Need To: EMPOWER Yourself to Cope with a Medical Challenge and praise it on the cover.

It is the story of how I benefited from various forms of wisdom in the western and natural healing worlds. I now have doctor-certified bones and muscles to rival those of a woman HALF my age. The prescription for my eyewear has fallen 16 - yes 16 - times in 6 years. Every aspect of my former vision problems is lessening over time.

My physical health is improving in other ways, too. As for my emotional/mental health, well, there's a reason that I was invited to address a conference of mental health professionals - and why so many recommend that you read

There are plenty of reasons that I chose the motto for this blog to be

Face your medical problems with dignity.
Face your future with optimism.

Let me know which page of the book convinces you that an improved and protected sense of dignity plus ever-better optimism help ill people to cope with medical, mental health and disability challenges.

The bonus is that, as you read, you'll learn how to improve your health - or someone else's - while saving money worldwide: Results, safety, and health in one E-book or print edition.

"GOTCHA! " Healthcare?!?

B'SD

3 Tamuz 5771

OY. The Obama administration announced its plan to send "mystery shoppers" to visit medical practices so they can figure out how accessible primary care is. It sounds as inefficient, irrelevant and irreverant as "Gotcha journalism" which preys on decent people minding their own business and not harming yours.
Then it frames them as being incompetent creeps.

I'm convnced that the best way to obtain better health care is by pleasantly introducing yourself to the medical staff and making an appointment to discuss actual needs. Surreptitious behavior raises more questions about the liars posing as patients than answers about medical compentence. I pity Americans with medical needs who depend on their president for solutions.

In other news, I spent part of my time volunteering at a hospital, doing what I can to help people of all ages to smile despite pain and fear as they face blood transfusions, chemotherapy, radiation and sheer misery. Today I had an interesting morning, playing Rat-a-Tat-Cat and Blokus in Arabic (I won 2 out of 3 rounds per game), plus handing out magazines and videos for different ages and speakers of different languages.

A Russian-speaking child was so weak from his chemotherapy that I painted pictures for him. All of us laughed to see patients from India whupping each other at Bananagrams in English. Such fun. What a day on the emotional spectrum.

Tell me, what do you do to cope with the pain and suffering of medical problems? I keep meeting people who quote specific passages in my book, to let me know what they do to cope with medical life.

Looking forward to hearing from you,

I did the research for you. Find answers you need for cost containment and better moods, in quick and convenient

How Would YOU Solve an Identity Problem for Patients Who Can't Speak?

B'SD

6 Tevet 5771

A very sad issue has affected many people in Philadelphia:
After Months of Searching, Family Finds Woman in Philly Hospital.

The lack of personal effects that identify a person too ill to speak for themselves is a problem that can be avoided. Medical ID bracelets and necklaces are reasonable solutions. They can be worn 24/7, even in the bath or shower.

I wonder, though, if you have other good ideas for preventing the impossibility of identifying someone in a similar medical crisis.

Embedded computer chips, something along the lines of what pet dogs receive in their ears do not appeal to many people afraid of them for some reason or another. Tattoos are not a solution for people who avoid them for health, esthetic or religious reasons.

What solutions can you think of? Let me know and please share your name when you post comments below.

How to Create a BEAUTIFUL FUTURE for Someone Who Needs It

B'SD

9 Av 5770

Today is a very sad day on the Jewish calendar, Tisha B'Av. It commemorates the destruction (yet again) of Jewish lives and our holy Temple/Bet HaMikdash by people who despise morality.

However, Torah-observant Jews are ever-optimistic. We believe in The One Above's promise of a blessed future.

I am just now
experiencing
evidence of that
beautiful potential.

I'm weeping in relief and pleasure at kindnesses coordinated in a hurry. They're helping some families to recover from their devastating medical and emotional situations in different spots on the globe. I initiated relevant contacts for all concerned and hope to teach the world at large:

ONE PERSON
can accomplish a lot!

Reflect on what
the parties need,
how you can help to
meet those needs,
and DO THAT.

It's not about genius.

It's about compassion,
a careful assessment
of what's needed,
of what can be done
and
of how to do more.

Create a beautiful future
for someone who needs it.

Let's call the phenomenon
The OTHER Butterfly Effect

Do You Need Help to Make the Best of Your Medical Mess?

B'SD

Tamuz 3 5770

US TV personality Art Linkletter's terrific technique for overcoming setbacks and tragedies in life is this idea: “Things turn out best for the people who make the best out of the way things turn out.”

You can do that with YOUR medical situation. Read iPhone-friendly E-book It's MY Crisis! And I'll Cry If I Need To: EMPOWER Yourself to Cope with a Medical Challenge. It tells you how.

Need more proof than
yesterday's book review
by a happy reader?
Read on.

"I received EMPOWER Yourself to Cope with a Medical Challenge one week after I suffered my own medical crisis and found it very helpful. [It] will be of great benefit both in dealing with the fragile emotional health of sick patients and the stressful situation of the patient's caregiver… [with] very practical comprehensive information for dealing with a health-related crisis that is so seldom available to someone who is ill and preoccupied with their own troubles. Ill people are often compromised and often don't know where to look for guidance. Putting so much useful information at their fingertips will help them navigate the difficulties of a confusing medical system. Combined with [the author's] encouragement to never give up hope, the book will be of great aid to anyone with a sudden serious medical emergency." - Daniel Eisenberg, MD, Department of Radiology at the Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia, PA; Assistant Professor of Diagnostic Imaging at Thomas Jefferson University School of Medicine; Medical Ethicist

Get it Before Stock Runs Out!

B'SD

10 Shvat 5770

Here's a Heads Up about a limited opportunity for people in medical crisis and their loved ones. Caregivers and psychotherapists around the world can benefit from the information, too.

While summing up my remarks at the mental health practitoner's convention last week, I noted that:

"With God's help and an unusual level of tenacity, I obviously won the race to the lifeline. My Health Information Management background and reporting work had already clued me in to little-known solutions for improving my chances to survive and thrive. But I was an exception to the Knowledge of Out-of-the-Box Medical Resources rule. I had a few things going for me: I have remarkable friends and I knew the answers to the following questions:

What information should your doctor
be providing you?

How can you better advocate on behalf of

yourself, your children, your parents
and your spouse?

What are the elements of a successful
patient-doctor interaction?

What should you expect from
your doctor?

A third thing going for me was that I developed a life-sustaining goal. While the race to my survival was on, I also decided to resolve a debilitating lack of information to the average uninformed patient who is unlikely to be as gutsy as I am in a pinch. I utilized my training in counseling courses as I wrote two highly acclaimed books about how to cope with some spiritual, emotional and physical issues of illness plus how to solve unmet needs regarding ancillary aspects of medical care and convalescence. No other author has addressed those topics as holistically as I have."

My first book, published in 2007,
might soon go out of print.

"It's MY Crisis! And I'll Cry if I Need To: A Life Book that Helps You to Dry Your Tears and to Cope with a Medical Challenge" will likely not be available in the near future.

How to Become an Effective Coping Team In and Out of the Hospital

B'SD

1 Tamuz 5769

One item I wanted to mention on the air yesterday but couldn't due to time constraints is this: Families, friends and the sick person him or herself can become a very effective coping team.

Facing a frightening medical diagnosis and all the complications that go with it, is a road that you and your loved ones, friends and hospital acquaintances will explore and a situation you'll tame with time and patience.

Check out all your (or the person who is a patient) reactions to medications, procedures and information with the medical team, asking every question you can think of and then some.

Allow yourself and everyone else to discover potential inner strengths and to act on them.

One of the things common to anyone who suffers in any way is this: we never imagine being able to cope with or to overcome the problem. Then we accidentally discover our hidden strengths or decide to create some. After all is said and done, we look back and wonder "Wow? Who knew that he/we/she/I could be that strong?"

Take everything one step at a time. Delegate authority to relatives and friends who want to help out. Recharge your physical and emotional batteries.

Pray. Pray some more.

What will life be like when this is over? New, uncharted territory in which you'll know so much more about why you're a person worth admiring and why special people in your life are such heroes. Hang in there. I've done it. You can, too.

If You're Facing a Medical Crisis...

B'SD

11 Sivan 5769

I've weighed my words all day in order to create this post. Here goes:

You're facing a medical challenge as it is.

I strongly suggest that you make sure not to overtax your body, to keep washing stuff that's handled often (toilet handles, door knobs, phones, etc.), and to avoid crowds if you are dealing with an illness as the sick person or as the caregiver.

Here's why:

WHO: World 'getting closer' to flu pandemic...

PHASE 6...

According to the advice I've learned so far from medical professionals, the best defense for guarding one's health from the above-mentioned dangers is to minimize your exposure to germs.

If you cough or sneeze, aim at the inside of your elbow (raise your arm to your face). Cover your coughs and sneezes to prevent the spread of germs.

Reward yourself for your sensible protective efforts. You can learn about little to no-cost fun ways to treat yourself (and other helpful stuff) in "It's MY Crisis! And I'll Cry if I Need To: A Life Book that Helps You to Dry Your Tears and to Cope with a Medical Challenge."

GOOD NEWS: You CAN Refuse to Ruin Your Health!

B'SD

3 Shvat 5769

I want to point out that yesterday's post was actually GOOD NEWS.

Why?

Because YOU CAN CONTROL what you eat and drink.

Imagine the joy of ending too many doctor visits, colds, bouts of weakness or lightheadedness simply because you sip on water instead of body/health destroying sugary drinks.

Imagine growing wealthier because you take fewer sick days off from work. Gosh, what can you do with the money you'll earn from more full workdays on your paychecks?

Count the improvements you'll accrue by ridding your diet of excess sugar: increased energy, more clear-headed thinking, glowing skin, easier trips when going to the toilet (huh? You didn't know that excess sugar can make you constipated?).

Golly. All you have to do to improve your health THIS MUCH
is to drink more water. So simple.

Here's an important tip on how to succeed with your new water-drinking habit: Make your lifestyle change slowly, not in one big gulp. Add more pure water to your menu gradually, over time.

Yes, you'll need more trips to the toilet, but guess what'll be pouring out of you? Internal junk.

Water cleans your entire body up.

Add one more glass of water to your tummy today. Add another one tomorrow. Keep adding more glasses of water (or unsweetened tea) as you can tolerate them. Making too sudden a change can backfire. Go slow and steady. Easy does it.

Oh? Did you know that wrinkles are less noticeable
in skin plumped up by refreshing water?

One more item: I've warned you MANY times about cell phone hazards to your health, and that of your children. Here's more proof about the integrity of my concerns:

to learn more simple solutions for improving your health.

For less than $20.00 you just might prevent many expensive doctor bills
and lots of personal misery.

No guarantees, just a hunch that your health could improve.

To your improving health,

Here's How to Dry Your Tears

B'SD

28 Tishrei 5769

I receive phone calls and E-mails from people seeking information about how to cope with some aspect of illness because I wrote a highly acclaimed book about that. My phone has been ringing off the hook about such concerns today. I've listened to a lot of tears.
