Cost of breast cancer burdensome for many patients

When Roberta Woodard underwent breast cancer treatment last year, the disease took a toll not only on her health, but also on her bank account. The first part of her treatment was one day of intense chemotherapy per week for 16 weeks. The 48-year-old Salisbury woman, a paraprofessional who works...

The Myth of Some Medical Expenses - and Facts for Lowering Them

B'SD

14 Cheshvan, 5774

Whew I've had a busy, time-consuming week. I'm pleased to have accomplished my goals, but sorry to have missed making this post go live in a timely manner.

Why? Because the information below just might save you some major money!

The New York Times recently published an opinion piece entitled The Myth of the Medical-Device Tax.

It's an insight into an apparently unjustified expense for some patients.

I hope that the op-ed will fuel positive changes and improvements in the medical device industry.

Meanwhile, if you need to lower your medical costs one way or another, read on.

has several pages entitled The Global Resources Section.

It's filled with information about worldwide organizations willing to pay part or all of an applicant's medical expenses: Medication, medical care, medical travel, medical appliances and more. Maybe yours!

I can't promise that you'll find exactly what you need in that part of the book, but you might.

The soothing content in the rest of the book can help you to calm down, to put things into perspective, and to organize your hectic medical life.

Reversing a Prognosis with Optimism and...

B'SD

19 Nisan 5772

A happy-go-lucky woman in Israel wakes up blind in 2005. She soon learns in an emergency room that she is dying. Then she has emergency brain surgery and loses the benign brain tumor that had blinded her and almost ended her ability to breathe.

One year later in 2006, medical experts inform the weak, thin woman that she will never see again. And here she is in 2012, typing this blogpost to you - after she wrote a book to help ill and disabled people around the world!

Medical and mental health professionals recommend  It's MY Crisis! And I'll Cry If I Need To: EMPOWER Yourself to Cope with a Medical Challenge and praise it on the cover.

It is the story of how I benefited from various forms of wisdom in the western and natural healing worlds. I now have doctor-certified bones and muscles to rival those of a woman HALF my age. The prescription for my eyewear has fallen 16 - yes 16 - times in 6 years. Every aspect of my former vision problems is lessening over time.

My physical health is improving in other ways, too. As for my emotional/mental health, well, there's a reason that I was invited to address a conference of mental health professionals - and why so many recommend that you read

There are plenty of reasons that I chose the motto for this blog to be

Face your medical problems with dignity.
Face your future with optimism.

Let me know which page of the book convinces you that an improved and protected sense of dignity plus ever-better optimism help ill people to cope with medical, mental health and disability challenges.

The bonus is that, as you read, you'll learn how to improve your health - or someone else's - while saving money worldwide: Results, safety, and health in one E-book or print edition.

B'SD

24 Tevet 5772

The key to finishing multiple tasks, or even one task, is to start working on them!

Illness, disabilities, and all the tedious tasks of managing with them can leave you feeling sleepy, foul tempered and/or defeated. Insurance regulations and blizzards of associated paperwork are monsters. Appointment schedules can drive you nutz as you try to schedule conflicting dates. Scheduling hard-to-get rides causes BIG headaches. So do other "little" details such as remembering how to combine medications or even when to take them, to prevent new health problems. And what about your inefficient personal funding for those medical costs looming all around you?

YOU JUST WANT TO SCREAM, right?

You need to Tame that Too Much To-Do List.
And yourself.

Now, imagine yourself  dashing across a red ribbon finish line. Your mind and heart swell with pleasure and relief at the successful moment.

Ready to cross the starting line?

Find out why so many medical and mental health professionals agree that EMPOWER Yourself to Cope with a Medical Challenge can help you to get the right things done first, second, and third.

The writing is full of good humor and funny stories from famous people who teach all of us how to achieve a victory and how to avoid too many distractions.

If you hear yourself or someone you care about
saying things like:
Someday . . .
I’m going to try . . .
As soon as I have some time . . .
Right now it’s on my back burner . . .

You just know that there are too many things
that aren't getting done.

Find out how to put your priorities in order. Succeed with managing your medical, emotional and/or disability life.

Yes, it's payback time for all that unnecessary suffering that procrastination or confusion added to your life.

Achieve your goals. Reach your finish line. How? Cross the starting line.

I thank my online friend businessman Harry Burstyn for sharing ideas I could translate into medical mindsets.

Announcing the Reimbursement Wiki

B'SD

16 Sivan 5769

One of the nightmares of medical problems is financial. You - and your medical team - struggle to figure out how to be reimbursed for medical care. The figures add up over time and BIG debts develop.

Here's some good news for American citizens: One of my LinkedIn colleagues (LinkedIn is a sort of Facebook for business professionals) has created a partial solution for the problem:

Announcing the
Reimbursement Wiki

I am announcing the public availability of my Reimbursement Wiki. I have compiled links to coding, coverage, and payment information, as well as information such as the following:

- Medicare (URLs for rules, topics such as surgeries, compounding, CED, MS-DRGs, DME, inpatient list, laboratory and diagnostic testing, etc.)

- Managed Care (URLs for medical/coverage policy sites at various payers, technology assessment organizations, literature on coverage decision making, etc.)

- Medicaid (URLs for CPT/HCPCS code lookup by state for payment info, state fee schedules, drug product data, etc.)

- Payment (URLs for Medicare payment basics, top 200 CPT/HCPCS codes, top 100 lab procedures, literature on drug pricing, etc.)

There is plenty more -
basically reimbursement
and health resources
I have collected in one place
for reference purposes.

The Reimbursement Wiki is an ongoing project of mine, and I add material based on topics of current work, so not all topics are represented equally. Nevertheless, I find it an invaluable resource, and I hope you do, too.

Access to the Reimbursement Wiki is free. The only requirement is to open an www.atwiki.com account. E-mail me your username so I can send you an invitation.

My E-address is scott@argentaadvisors.com.
Or you can contact me via LinkedIn.

OK, class, you now have a terrific tool for being able to better afford expensive medical care. Do your homework. Ask compassionate, detail-oriented friends/family help you to recover monies you deserve according to US law.

I've been on both sides of the hospital bed and I know, reimbursement procedures are tedious, confusing and one great way to zap your sense of humor.

Treat yourself to an emotional recovery.

"It's MY Crisis! And I'll Cry if I Need To: A Life Book that Helps You to Dry Your Tears and to Cope with a Medical Challenge" today.
