Live for the Love

B'SD

18 Tamuz 5770

Some time ago I posted
a video about Seat Belt Safety. It illustrates the impact of our health care decisions on loved ones.

Give yourself time to digest those scenes in the video, then read the rest of today's blogpost.

I'm mourning a friend's death. She'd died before my medical crisis began, before I wrote my book, earned my counseling skills certification & began coaching the ill in "coping with medical crisis skills."

That friend created a sad life lesson with a moral one to follow: She'd delayed medical exams for serious symptoms so she could "focus on her kids."

By the time she agreed to seek medical help, her cancer was so advanced that doctors were shocked she'd made it that far when they did exploratory surgery. They immediately "closed her up" as no known form of therapy could have improved her chances for survival let alone quality life.

Reality: she couldn't face her fears. They killed her. Now the kids have no Mom. They suffer horribly.

Moral lesson: The last temptation is the greatest treason: To do the right deed for the wrong reason. .... LORD ALFRED TENNYSON

Please Protect Your Health; if not only for yourself then also for people who love and need you. Live for the love. If you're too upset to cope with your medical situation or simply don't know how, get counseling from friends or therapists who respect & improve your life. That's what I advise in EMPOWER Yourself to Cope with a Medical Challenge.

Pedophile on the Loose!

B'SD

Readers, this urgent update concerns something happening in the Jewish world, but the threat pertains to all of us anywhere, any time. We are all human, vulnerable, and need each other. I've blogged about pedophilia before. Here's today's message:

On Mon, Jun 28, 2010 at 9:26 PM, David Morris wrote:

For those interested in "Magen" activities

David

My goal in sharing the above is to empower anyone who can prevent a crime (using good sense and legal means), to do so. Perhaps one of those heroes who prevent a lifetime of agony for potential victims will be you.

Do You Need Help with a Bully?

B'SD

17 Tamuz 5770

They do it with cellphones,
YouTube, kids at school,
name it.

Bullies are bad. It's hard to deal with them because people who can and should protect the victims often don't.

Are you being bullied? Maybe this New York Times Health and Wellness blogpost can help you to to end the misery. It's a starting point for the whole solution. Click on:
Ask Questions About Cyber Bullying

UPDATE: Monitoring Teenage Phones and Facebook

If you can, convince some adults to read this message from me: "LISTEN to the person in front of you. He or she is scared and rightly so. Bullies want to ruin their lives. And they can succeed if YOU fail to stop them."

Okay, my lecture is over. I pray the problem will end for you.

If you're being bullied, here's one way to prevent them from messing up your head. Memorize this thought: "Strength is not the absence of weakness, but how we wrestle with our weaknesses."

Bullies only wrestle with someone they can pick on. Survivors are stronger. Gather supporters and outnumber the nasty girls and guys. Wrestle the bullies together: use the police, helpful adults and friends. I'm on your side.

If you're an adult facing bullies in the medical world, re-read my message above. It applies to you, too.

Where's the Outrage?

B'SD

10 Tamuz 5770

Americans face alarmingly dangerous health risks on many fronts: the BP oil spill ruining its shores and wildlife, food recalls (are the FDA and food service industries hiring people who care and can read or not?) and an increasingly obvious sleight-of-hand Healthcare Reform Act robbing victims of the very healthcare they desperately need.

This "Healthcare Reform Act" crime against humanity was enacted March 23 2010. I have yet to learn of someone's life being improved by it.

I have learned, however, of thousands of people losing vitally needed Medicare privileges, and of doctors going broke or choosing to go out of business for lack of sufficient reimbursement.

Read this editorial from the internationally repected publication The New England Journal of Medicine:
Where's the Outrage?

I was in the USA during winter holiday season 2008. It was depressing due to one horrific financial scandal after another. News shows tallied mounting losses of homes, businesses, marriages and lives. Americans voted for a president promising "Hope" and "Change."

The only change we've witnessed is the increasingly rapid, downward spiral of the US economy and public welfare.

All's Well with My PC Now. And Soon for a Little Baby, too...

All is well with my PC now. What a day! I work in two time zones, and my local morning crashed when it seemed that a hacker had commandeered my PC. My tech team cleaned him out after we realized that he'd stolen lotsa Gmail passwords from unsuspecting victims. I changed mine.

All's well in my office now. So well that once repairs were finished, I immediately helped a family find an urgently needed infections specialist for their infant daughter. Took me less than 30 minutes start to finish. Ooooh, do I have a database of medical information for you...

Drink More Water!

B'SD

Israel is in the middle of a sharav, a severe heat wave.

To my Israeli readers and anyone else in extremely hot weather: Drink pure water! Aim to down about 3 liters minimum in a day - in addition to natural fruit juices and teas.

If you or someone else looks pale, slows their speech and body movements and/or seems confused in the heat, call a doctor immediately.

Be sure to read Signs and Symptoms of Dehydration.

SKIP Coffee. It causes you to LOSE water. Carbonated beverages with nasty chemicals suck you dry and nutritionless. WATER is the necessary drink for excessively (and any) hot weather. Hydrate your children! They aren't aware of dehydration dangers. To your health!

"I received EMPOWER Yourself to Cope with a Medical Challenge one week after I suffered my own medical crisis and found it very helpful. [It] will be of great benefit both in dealing with the fragile emotional health of sick patients and the stressful situation of the patient's caregiver… [with] very practical comprehensive information for dealing with a health-related crisis that is so seldom available to someone who is ill and preoccupied with their own troubles. Ill people are often compromised and often don't know where to look for guidance. Putting so much useful information at their fingertips will help them navigate the difficulties of a confusing medical system. Combined with [the author's] encouragement to never give up hope, the book will be of great aid to anyone with a sudden serious medical emergency." - Daniel Eisenberg, MD, Department of Radiology at the Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia, PA; Assistant Professor of Diagnostic Imaging at Thomas Jefferson University School of Medicine; Medical Ethicist

Here's How to Know Who Your Friends Are

B'SD

1 Tamuz 5770

My Self-Help Coaching work brings me into other people's lives. I've had occasion to hear clients telling me of lively but very troubling relationships that they mistakenly called "Friendships."

Here's a One Size Fits All definition of friendship: "Friendship isn't about who you have known the longest. It's about those who came and never left your side ..."

By being at your side, those people seek to improve your lot in life with productive assistance, be it financial, a shoulder to cry on, a sounding board for reflecting ideas back to you so they make better sense or by performing tasks that ease your pain. Simple, heartfelt fun is also the core basis of a friendship. Friendliness makes you feel elevated, makes you feel that you're a better person than you thought. Life seems so much sweeter with a healthy friendship. It reassures you that the actions you've taken and the thoughts you've pondered are good for you or, something ill advised. A real friend points out what can or cannot work for your benefit.

Your illness is one thing. If someone likes taking you on guilt trips, or blaming themselves or you about why suffering is happening, don't go along for the adventure. Why you're sick is between you and The One Above, not the gossips down on Earth. Illness is not cause for mentally or actually punishing people you know.

Friendship increases happiness. It is not about symbolic victories that hurt other people, not about punishing someone on your behalf. Friendship makes your heart lighter and your lips curve into a genuine smile.

There's a lot of heartwarming stuff about friendship in EMPOWER Yourself to Cope with a Medical Challenge. Read it with those real friends helping you through your medical challenge.
