A Question for You...

B'SD

10 Nisan, 5773

I'm certified in Counseling Skills and as a Melavah Holim (a sort of spiritual chaplain). I'm always interested to find out how upbeat people remain that way despite life's hardships.

I long to help others to make the breakthrough that gets them to indulge their Inner Totally Decent Self (ben adam in Hebrew) with ever-improving efforts to be Better Than Ever.

I use humor to put clients and friends at ease. It often works. I'd like to find out how you improve yourself.

Willing to let me in on the secret before or after Easter weekend and Passover?

Please share your comments below so other people can grow ;^ D

Thank YOU, Officers!

B'SD

10 Adar 1, 5771

If you haven't heard the awful story of a crazed man rampaging the subway system and streets of New York this past Saturday, then I suggest that you join me in mentally thanking the officers who stopped his murder & mayhem spree:
Good WINS Out Over Evil Thanks to These Brave Police Officers.

Now take time to absorb the meaning of it all. Develop a plan to keep tabs on everyone you love in the event of an emergency. And make a daily habit of sincerely thanking the police officers, fire fighters, medical professionals and other people who make your life safer. Speak with them, develop pleasant relationships and acquaintances. Start today. Don't wait for crises to happen.

Heroes deserve our gratitude.

If you wonder about the mental health and stability of someone you know. look up relevant information for helping them, yourself and/or your community in the Global Resources section of E-book

How to Protect Your Welfare: DEMAND Accountability in the Mental Health World!

B'SD

5 Shvat 5771

Readers, I've wondered if valid security measures were in place before Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords' community-oriented event began. It is odd that local and federal law enforcement officials, and Homeland Security in particular, missed the glaring clues of Jared Loughner's lack of mental health, his contempt for a peaceful American society, and his repeatedly stated threats to public welfare.

Hearts are broken,
lives were lost.
Others hang in the balance.
THAT situation need not
be repeated!

YOU are in a position to demand accountability from your legislators. Arm yourselves with some appropriate reading here:

Dr. Keith: Tragedy of Mental Illness
By Dr. Keith Ablow

Published January 09, 2011
FoxNews.com

The story of Jared Loughner’s murderous rampage, which took the lives of six innocent victims and critically wounded Arizona Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, will ultimately prove to be a story about how severe mental illness—including that linked to violence—routinely goes untreated.

By all accounts...

Just in time for the Holidays! Misery Made Easy!

B'SD

27 Tishrei 5771

High Holiday Season just ended for Jewish observers and gosh, it's time for Halloween, Thanksgiving, Xmas, Kwaanza and Hanuka marketers to hit the airwaves! Bonking your braincells with messages about "Buy this/do that to be happy" and filling your heart with pain about images of people who seem happier than you are what "We want you to feel inadequate so buy This Solution" advertising sales are all about.

How to Calm Down in a Way that Works for YOU

B'SD

27 Elul 5770

The Jewish year ends this Wednesday, and the non-Jewish year ends in December. Holiday season is upon us. Tensions are rising with tempers, tears and fears. Medical problems add to the stress.

Want to calm down in a way that works for you?

One way to cope with the distress of illness and all its complications is to simply admit what's bothering you.

Ask loved ones, friends and/or medical professionals in your life to listen to you, to share some back-and-forth feedback and reflection.

It's not a silly, time-wasting exercise. Why? Because it brings your voice and concerns into the overall picture. Two-way communication is progress. Your needs can be met once people know of them.

Tell the people important to you what you're afraid of: Things that might fail and things that might work, things that scare you or hurt you, and things that sadden and/or confuse you.

It's okay to be concerned/
scared/worried/sad
fill in the blank as you wish.

You're normal.

Let the wider world know what's on your mind. Speak in a cultured, patient manner. If tears overtake you, let them fall. They're a communication tool.

Give a voice to things you fear could happen, things that could have a negative affect on your life: altered appearance, chronic pain, loss of abilities, and so on. List the things that you're afraid might work and change your life in significant ways. That's a whole other kind of fear.

lets you examine your concerns and shows you how to ease them, even how to find soltutions when possible. Buy

Did Your Local Newspaper Give You HARMFUL, WRONG MEDICAL INFORMATION?

B'SD

11 Tamuz 5770

Readers, this one's a stunner.

You're already afraid of doctors and painful tests. Thoughts of deadly and disfiguring diseases leave you almost speechless. And all too often predators play on those fears, trying to hurt you. For what? Fun and profit? To sell more newspapers?

The journalism world deserves a major shakedown so that only credible, hardworking fact-checkers get the real story to you. Fantasies belong on relevant shelves in libraries.

From those conscientious doctors at MedPage:

Headlines every day in the

does not endorse --
its chief medical officer recommends against.
Yet the paper brags that...

A GEM of a Holiday Show!

B'SD

26 Kislev 5770

Being cheerful at this time of year is one of the hardest things for people facing illness. My coaching work focuses on overcoming the usual obstacles. Here is a GEM of a hopeful message about a universe filled with surprises, hidden and to-be-realized blessings:

Catch a falling star in your sights in this evening's sky, and ponder the personal possibilities. Then, make a choice to EMPOWER Yourself to Cope with a Medical Challenge.

(sorry about the date gaffes in some recent posts. Blogger and I are at odds about the time zone I live in, let alone that the Jewish day begins at sundown. The dates on my blogposts sometimes seem a bit kerflooey though I try to adjust things behind the scenes ;^ )

Do You Know Which Book is Having a Snowball Effect on Medical and Mental Health Practitioners?

B'SD

3 Tamuz 5769

"It's MY Crisis! And I'll Cry if I Need To" is having something of a snowball effect on readers of the book and listeners to my radio interviews.

One reader and listener, a San Diego native who is a retired mental health professional, wrote to remark about my appearance on the Yishai Fleisher show the other day:

"Yocheved, nice job on the radio today.
You came across very well and very real.
Steve Sherr."

A CranioSacral therapist in my neighborhood (she sells copies of "It's MY Crisis!" to her clients) just gave a copy of "It's MY Crisis! And I'll Cry if I Need To" to a psychotherapist who uses the office next door. Why? "Because it'll be a good addition to her practice," I was told.

Hmm, that's a growing consensus among medical and mental health practitioners who've read the book. Why might that be?

Because it definitely is
"A Life Book that Helps You to
Dry Your Tears and to
Cope with a Medical Challenge."

To your health,
