Educate Yourself about Ebola with Facts, not Fiction

B'SD

18 Tishrei, 5775

Headlines and conversations about Ebola aka Hemorrhagic Fever are scary, and increasingly often.

Rumor-mongers are not improving matters. I suggest that you take their comments with skepticism.

Here are four sensible ways to cope with your concerns about Ebola/Hemorrhagic Fever:

  1. Educate yourself with facts about the Ebola scare, via the World Health Organization Ebola Fact Sheet.
  2. Read the Centers for Disease Control (though some people wonder if Ebola is under any sort of control) fact sheet at Ebola Virus Disease/Hemorrhagic Fever Updates.
  3. Ask your trusted medical professionals about sensible ways to protect yourself and loved ones, and how to behave overall during this frightening time.
  4. Bolster your efforts with prayers and decent behavior. They can keep you calm. Calmness can help you overall.

UPDATE: See WHO's Risk Assessment for Ebola and Arutz 7's "Problematic Questions (second half of the article)".

Epidemiologist Dr David  Dausey declares, in the Washington Post, "Stop the Flights Now."

NEWER UPDATE: Can Protalix Pharmaceuticals produce the CURE for Ebola?

Need to cheer up over some sort of medical, mental or emotional health issue?

Want to know which worldwide organizations are willing to pay part or all of your specific medical bills?

You need to read the E-book or print edition of EMPOWER Yourself to Cope with a Medical Challenge.

What to do When Loved Ones are Far from You in Times of Distress

B'SD

8 Tamuz, 5773

A friend of mine is in the emotionally trying situation of being abroad as her siblings prepare for their mom's unexpected funeral.

She needed a bit of guidance about how to deal with the "Not quite this or that, not exactly here or there" paradox.

Her predicament is similar to that of men and women in the Orthodox Jewish world who modestly refrain from touching people of the other gender if they are not parents, children or siblings - even during times of distress.

Here's what I shared with her.
You can use the suggestion, too:

"When I deal with coaching clients not in a position to hug people of the other gender or because of distance, I suggest that they adopt a word or short phrase to use in such instances. The Kennedy family is famous for its "coo" in times of distress. You can see it working to calm the relatives in rare footage of their private lives. Some people use amusing sounds.

"Verbal hugs help when physical hugs aren't an option.

"The coo or other sound/short phrase can be used again and again in times of distress. It's a form of shorthand that captures agreed-upon emotions and supportive responses to them. It can be quite soothing when you're near or far from each other."

Let me know your ideas about that, in the comments section. I look forward to hearing from you.

A medical or emotional crisis - you'd cry too, if it happened to you.

Use your tissues and handkerchiefs with my blessings borne of experience. GOD gives you Permission to Weep.

You can say that to any critics after explaining that "It's MY Crisis! And I'll Cry if I Need To." With a prearranged signal you share with your loved ones.

It might even be a phrase or chapter in

How to Have a Happier Holiday Season - Even if You're Ill

B'SD

10 Cheshvan 5772

How is It’s MY Crisis! And I’ll Cry If I Need To: EMPOWER Yourself to Cope with a Medical Challenge different from other self-help, inspirational books? Because of the author who wrote it.

I don’t play “Holier than you” games nor do I pretend that all will sweet if only you follow the suggestions in the book. What I have done from cover to cover, is to acknowledge the pain, confusion and anger that go with illness. Then I share practical, proven ways to “Face Your Medical Problems with Dignity. Face Your Future with Optimism.” Different chapters show you how to tame the insurance and medical paperwork monster, how to remember every medical appointment and medication (including what they’re for!); even the names of all the doctors involved in your medical care or your loved one’s.

I added humorous takes on life throughout the E-book and print edition, including a “knock ‘em flat” response to critics who insist you have no right to cry "... because G’D only gives what we can handle” (ever heard of a nervous breakdown? Death? Lifelong disabilities? The need to recover from a setback?). They and I let you laugh so you can restore your sense of perspective, your zest for life AND your better self to the overall picture. You might even end up feeling better about G'D!

There’s a reason that medical and mental health professionals recommend

One of them even saved his life with it! Another gives it to patients on chemotherapy and to addicts in rehab. “They don’t call me much after that,” he chuckles. “They feel better just reading the book!”

I’m different from other authors in the medical, self-help and inspirational genre because I’m honest about what it takes to cope with harsh reality and end up smiling. No white-washing with me. Just solid stress-busting information proven to work over time, plus time-saving leads to the cost-cutting information ill people need.

Get someone (including yourself!) a great gift for the holiday season. Let them learn how to enjoy it more, and at all, when they read

Here's How to Get Your Grin Back Despite Serious Illness

B'SD

4 Tishrei 5771

When readers and personal acquaintances ask me how I can know so much about different topics, especially health topics, I respond,

"The key to comedy is a great journalistic tool for me. I survey the scene and ask myself 'What's wrong with this picture?'"

That line of thought lets me be objective about stressful situations. With my head cleared of worry, I can focus on finding solutions.

Go ahead, try the trick I use and see what it does for you.

How to Create a BEAUTIFUL FUTURE for Someone Who Needs It

B'SD

9 Av 5770

Today is a very sad day on the Jewish calendar, Tisha B'Av. It commemorates the destruction (yet again) of Jewish lives and our holy Temple/Bet HaMikdash by people who despise morality.

However, Torah-observant Jews are ever-optimistic. We believe in The One Above's promise of a blessed future.

I am just now
experiencing
evidence of that
beautiful potential.

I'm weeping in relief and pleasure at kindnesses coordinated in a hurry. They're helping some families to recover from their devastating medical and emotional situations in different spots on the globe. I initiated relevant contacts for all concerned and hope to teach the world at large:

ONE PERSON
can accomplish a lot!

Reflect on what
the parties need,
how you can help to
meet those needs,
and DO THAT.

It's not about genius.

It's about compassion,
a careful assessment
of what's needed,
of what can be done
and
of how to do more.

Create a beautiful future
for someone who needs it.

Let's call the phenomenon
The OTHER Butterfly Effect

Filling a Gap Left by Facebook: Haaretz Newspaper Mentions "It's MY Crisis!" Book

B'SD

Late-breaking news: an Israeli English-language daily has mentioned me in an article
Filling a Gap left by Facebook while referencing a website and client for whom I write.

If you wish, you can
send a supportive comment about

A Life Book that Helps You to
Dry Your Tears and to
Cope with a Medical Challenge"

to journalist Raphael Ahren

I hope you'll do so. Let the wider world know how the book and/or my Self-Help Coaching helped you no matter your religion or level of religiosity.

Sellout!

B'SD

4 Tevet 5769

Last night I spoke to a crowd about my book. My supply of colorful copies was gone within minutes of ending my presentation. A neurologist in the crowd congratulated me for helping people to understand that "We can make the best of what's left" after a devastating medical experience.

The decision to go forward is up to each of us. The possibilites are unknown.

The audience was well aware of my vision problems and that I am still under considerable medical care. They appreciated my "Go for it!" attitude knowing full well that my sight is unpredictable. Doctors have explained to me that I literally see a different picture each time I blink. It doesn't stop people from cheerfully supplying a helpful arm to assist me when I walk on stairs or bumpy terrain. In fact, my desire to persevere motivates people to step forward when I need assistance.

You can buy a copy of my book by clicking on the right-hand margin. Look for the colorful hotlink and get your copy of my "Lifebook for Drying Your Tears and Coping with a Medical Challenge" today!

Here's looking to the future. Please mark the start of 2009, and your entire future, with reasonable care.

What Color is Your Attitude?

B'SD

30 Tishrei 5769

We're heading into the months of c-c-cold weather, and some genius thought of warming us up with thoughts of love at
WOMEN IN RED. I'm drawing your attention to the article because it has a sidebar about altruism and how it's good for your health (quite a divergent thought!).

That look at altruism points out a reality (can so many scientists AND WOMEN be wrong?) repeated throughout
my book: "... in humans, research has shown that doing good makes you feel good ..."

Men, you can find loving partners with good-hearted women. Why? Ladies (MEN, listen up, now), like to marry guys who give of themselves in order to better the world.

Maybe we better revisit these thoughts in February, when the Western world
celebrates the 14th of the month with loving thoughts. Meanwhile, check out FIND LOVE BY BEING NICE (sorry FoxNews, I just had to edit your title a bit). It could make you feel better ;^ )

Gee, maybe I should have worn a red outfit in my photo at the upper right. Naaah, you can see me in red or pink when you click on
Boo-Boo Barbie . Remember when I laughed my way out of the pain from my elbow fracture?

Keep voting for my book at the
Musella Foundation Recommended Reading site. I hope you choose a 9 or a 10.

To your good health,

Yocheved Golani
