Whew, it's been a Busy Month!

B'SD

29 Sivan, 5775

Whew, it's been a busy month of enjoying concerts and preparing to speak before a focus group tomorrow night. I'll be completing my remarks with a sing-a-long. This comes on the heels of an amusing experience.

I traveled from Jerusalem to Beersheva the other day, sitting with opera singer Isabelle Marie Haas who recently performed in Beersheva. I mentioned that I'd be singing a particular song to a group of people in a few days and that I was nervous about doing a good job. I asked her for some tips.

We laughed together because jitters are the sign of people who are focused on doing a good job. She asked me to sing the song, and joined in. At one point she stopped, listened to me singing alone and said that I have a nice voice. She only corrected me on one note.

My life is almost complete. I have performed with a singer of renown ;^ )

Back to you. I found an article worth pondering. Please click on the icon and read...

Age and cause of death are obvious data to collect for deceased relatives. But there are several others

Spring Break Update

B'SD

20 Nisan 5775

I'm on vacation during Passover and delighted to have met fans of this blog who hail from different parts of the world. It's an experience to discuss the posts in different languages, to find out which one a specific person valued and another reader preferred. I've been fascinated by the conversations several times in the past week or so.

Overall, it seems that most of you enjoy the humor invested into the messages I share and almost ALL of you appreciated the non-allergenic cleaning tips.

I was surprised to listen to several people who've bought the EMPOWER Yourself to Cope with a Medical Challenge book but failed to read it cover-to-cover. I immediately cited the page numbers or chapters that specifically address their concerns. Then I enjoyed the profuse "Thank you's" I eventually received as people contacted me to relate the problem-solving that followed our interaction.

EMPOWER Yourself with
information you need.
Use it well.

OK, back to simple vacation time: I'm charging up my emotional and content provider batteries as I share time with old and new friends in real life, enjoy cultural pursuits and simply let myself "be."

I might post photos after Pesakh/Passover is over. I find it hard to do on the road as my schedule is a bit unpredictable.

Let's enjoy the rest of spring break together. All I ask are two favors: Be nice. And drop me a line about the posts you enjoy. Let me know why you liked a specific message and what you'd like to read more of.

The EZ Shmeezy Way to Know More about the Medication You Take

B'SD

7 Elul, 5773

From time to time I share URLs, aka websites, for empowering you to learn more about your health.

I sympathize with you if you do not know why you take some sort of medication or feel reluctant to ask medical professionals about it.

It's frightening to take medication and to wonder what it does for you, what the unplanned ramifications (consequences) of taking the medication might be and what else you need to know.

Here's an FYI on the citrus fruits with medication issue Beware of Dangerous Medication Interactions with Citrus Fruits!

Educate yourself at these sites and take notes. Memories tend to be faulty at inconvenient times.

Drugs are one thing.

How about improving your sense of resolve?

What about resolving your troubling spiritual issues about your illness - or someone else's?

Can you or they afford the treatments, transportation or medical appliances you need?

Solutions exist! Many of them are in the E-book or print edition of EMPOWER Yourself to Cope with a Medical Challenge

Face Your Medical Problems with Dignity. Face Your Future with Optimism.

Focus on solutions. The EMPOWER Yourself to Cope with a Medical Challenge book can help you with that in many ways.

One Helluva Week and Then Some...

B'SD

4 Kislev, 5773

It's been a helluva week since last Sunday's update. I spent the Sabbath praying for the safety of my people and listening to Shidur Shaket, silent radio, which broadcasts warnings of incoming missiles from Israel's enemies (too many to count!). The defensive Israeli response to the incessant rocket-fire was long in coming, not the offense that mainstream media has made it out to be.

Anyone wishing to recite tehilim, psalms, to ask for HaShem's (GOD's) mercy on the Jewish people can focus on chapters 20, 83, 121, 130, and 142. Read them to see why they're appropriate to the occasion.

Any pro-Israel prayers, straight from the heart, are welcome. Jews have been under attack since the days of Abraham (the world's first monotheist) and Isaac, when Ishmael tried to murder his half-brother.

Judaism advocates compassion, the polar opposite of what Hamas, the PA and the Koran stand for.

Political concessions are worthless as you see below.

Israel shrinks
and the attacks to obliterate the Holy Land
and her Jews
continue.

You can stay updated about the situation via http://muqata.blogspot.co.il/

A political, moral, and theological crisis - you'd cry too, if it happened to you. Use your tissues and handkerchiefs with my blessings borne of experience. GOD gives you Permission to Weep. And you can say that to any critics after explaining that "It's MY Crisis! And I'll Cry if I Need To."

Meanwhile, ill people around the world need to know how to lower their medical costs, how to reduce their overall stress and how to to receive the care they need as they improve their moods and organization skills. Solutions for all that fill the E-book or print edition of EMPOWER Yourself to Cope with a Medical Challenge. Buy a copy for yourself or a loved one today!

Catching UP When You Feel Life has Left You Behind

B'SD

9 Sivan 5772

A journalist as well as an author, my schedule is filled with several complicated projects. One of them was not contracted for. It was a recent conversation with friends over a dinner together.

Those friends informed me of people suffering medical problems and all the emotional and financial costs that tend to go with them. We sighed together. I then named the pages of

that held solutions for the specified problems. As promised, I met with one of the affected individuals to offer some words of comfort and direction. Several days and book sales later, a grateful parent thanked me for having written the book: "Yocheved, now I feel like I'm catching up after I felt like life had  left me and my family behind."

I'm still crying over the privilege of having been able to help yet another person struggling with medical, mental health or disability issues.

How to Find Solutions and Smile When You Do

B'SD

9 Nisan 5772

Whew, life can be a sucker punch sometimes. Several solutions to that problem exist. One can be to see life with a sense of humor. A second solution is to see life from a different perspective, to experiment with perspectives so you can learn which one helps you past your problem.

If you haven't watched the movie entitled Temple Grandin; Not Thinking in Pictures, do so on video or CD. It packs a powerful message about how the woman named Temple Grandin has much to teach the rest of us. Claire Danes did an outstanding acting job of portraying her.

Here's a shorter, laugh-out-loud look at how to solve problems with humor and fresh perspective

How to Clean House - Despite Disabilities - with Simple Solutions!

B'SD

23 Nisan 5771

Do you know someone facing disabilities and wondering how to cope with them? My book and blog advocate effective, simple solutions to vexing problems. Here are a bunch of cost-cutting ideas for the cost of a few spray bottles you can buy at dollar stores:

Lose stubborn stains that haven't come out in the wash! Spray the dry garment with a 50-50 mix of liquid laundry detergent and water, and then let it sit overnight before laundering the item.

Need to get rid of weeds between the cracks of your patio or sidewalk bricks/stones? Spray a 50-50 solution of bleach and water, or dish soap and water, at them daily until the weeds and immediately surrounding area are soaked. The roots will give up within a few days.

Stiff & sore and frustrated by a moldy bathroom you can't easily clean? Prevent mildew by toweling walls after a shower or bath. Remove mildew with a 50-50 solution of white vinegar and water mixed in a cheap spray bottle. Spray it at yucky spots, and then wipe away the mess with paper towels (fabric towels if you care to launder them). Support the paper or fabric towels with straight-edged mop handles (sponja sticks in the Middle East) if your arms can't reach all around.

Scared to use toxic chemicals as you clean drains around your home? Pour some dry baking/bicarbonate of soda (the same stuff used for baking) down the hole, then add enough white vinegar (it won’t take much!) to work up a froth. After things have settled down, rinse the pipes with hot water boiled in a kettle you can easily maneuver.

Keep those spray bottles clearly labeled, out of harm's way and filled with the above mixtures so you can reach for a problem solver when you wish.

Ready to snack on some nuts to power you up all over again?

What? Your jaws get sore from chewing nuts?

Here's an easy way to prevent the pain as you "chop" them even if your hands can't do the job: Place the nuts in a paper bag repeatedly folded closed, or in a Ziploc baggie. Step on the tightly closed package with your heaviest shoes until the nuts are reduced to bits. Scoop them out with a clean spoon and swallow the nourishment after some light chewing.

Spring cleaning time! Clean the "I can't cope with illness" cobwebs from your muddled mind and SAVE MAJOR MONEY with the cost-cutting information inside the Global Resources section at the back!

There's a reason I phrased the book's prose as I did. I use the same techniques in live sessions with coaching clients, bearing in mind that "... a major psychotherapy goal for all patients is to turn on coping routines on their own." It's a quote from the article cited below.
