Fractures HURT and so do the wrong crutches. Here's an FYI from a medical professional who contributed to today's blogpost:


"Please be aware that crutches must be the correct measurements for YOUR measurements! And you must use them correctly or you may cause yourself injury. Here is just 1 link to info on the measurements you need for your crutches as well as links to their proper use. I see too many people with obviously incorrect crutch lengths! So if/when you get the crutches, go there armed [no pun intended] with a measuring tape and your own necessary measurements.

OW That Hurts!

I apologize for the unexpected, longish break in my posts. I was badly injured in an accident that damaged bones in my dominant arm. The doctor who initially treated me misdiagnosed the fractures, then gave me the wrong type of cast and an ineffective sling. My pain was indescribable.

I later entered a hospital emergency room on December 30 2007 and eventually received orthopedic surgery. I came home 10 days later, just before this weekend. I am grateful to my surgeon, who dealt with my complex case in a realistic and competent fashion. We're giving my arm a few weeks to heal by letting it rebuild healthy new bone. Then I'll need physical therapy once my immobilizing arm-brace is removed.

The horrific mismanagement of my medical emergency plus the nature of the freakish accident will likely be the bases for one of my future feature stories for the press. Editors and publishers are welcome to contact me for comments.
