The ABC's of Yom Kipur: How to Pick Yourself Up after a Fall

B'SD

9 Tishrei, 5773

I've been recovering from the ill effects of eating non-organic foods at the homes of friends on Rosh HaShana. The medical consensus is that my body is so cleansed of the gunk that most people swallow on a daily basis, that my body rebelled at the onslaught. It has not been a pleasant experience.

Other than that, I've been focusing on the spiritual meaning of the Jewish High Holiday season. Tonight is the beginning of Yom Kipur. You might appreciate reading The  ABC's of Yom Kipur to get a glimpse of what it's all about.

Here's a video to illustrate Yom Kipur a bit more

This is a thought-provoking essay entitled
Dying to Live.

One of the riveting prayers of Yom Kipur
can be heard at U'Netaneh Tokef.

You can click on
the English translation
of that prayer.

Then you can ponder
Chief Rabbi Sacks' essay,
Coming Home.

And yes, I'm holding back from eating foods not good for my health. My friends sympathize.

I wish you a year filled with blessings.

Eating to Save Your Life

B'SD

7 Tishrei, 5773

Oof, it's mid-season for the Jewish High Holidays. Other calendars are gearing up for a different season of foodfests. Many of us are wondering what to do so we can eat, enjoy the food and not feel deprived while other people overeat.

Here's my first suggestion for getting your meals under control all year long: Read this article by Dr, Dean Ornish who has helped people around the world to reverse their heart disease problems into non-problems. The article is entitled Eating for Health, Not Weight (aka The Optimal Diet).

My second suggestion for getting your waistline and dining efforts to build you up instead of tearing you down is to read the motivational comments in

Here's one excerpt you might enjoy:

If you're the sort of person who hasn't yet succeeded
at organizing your life, I offer sweet solace with simple advice:

“Habit is habit, and not to be flung out the window
but coaxed downstairs one step at a time.” – Mark Twain

4 Tishrei, 5773

It's the dawn of a new year, and with it comes a stirring message from Chief Rabbi Lord Sacks in England. I hope you'll share it with anyone experiencing a physical, emotional, mental health, or disability issue. You don't have to be Jewish to love the empowering message

Rosh HaShana is Almost Here!

B'SD

29 Elul, 5772

Rosh HaShana, the Jewish New Year, begins in Israel tonight, 7 hours ahead of Eastern Standard Time for my American blog visitors. I'll be off- and on-line until after Simkhat Torah on Tishrei 28 5773/October 8th 2012.

REMEMBER that Israel's daylight savings time clocks change during that time. I cherish the coming year with its many miracles. May all of us share blessings of health, peace, prosperity and sweet, enduring happiness. May our heartaches become distant memories, replaced by ever-increasing joy.

I am grateful to The One Above for the loving blessings that have come my way during a long, difficult journey to inner growth.

May 5773 be a year of global unity, love and friendship: complete physical and psychological/spiritual health.

How to Improve Heart Health Inside and Out, 1-2-3!

B'SD

24 Elul, 5772

The Jewish year of 5772 ends next week with Rosh HaShana. Yom Kipur will be the day that Jews worldwide beat their hearts to indicate regret for messing up in the good behavior department.

Here are three items to help anyone, including you, to improve your heart health:

Heart Surgeon Speaks Out On What Really Causes Heart Disease

A medical crisis - you'd cry too, if it happened to you. It's a heartbreaker. Use your tissues and handkerchiefs with my blessings borne of experience. GOD gives you Permission to Weep. And you can say that to any critics after explaining that "It's MY Crisis! And I'll Cry if I Need To."

Does Your Doctor Know the Facts about Your Medication?

B'SD

19 Elul, 5772

I listened to this TEDTalk video and found it troubling. I'm aware of several horrific side-effects and after-affects upon defenseless people harmed by legally approved drugs. It's one of the reasons I'd developed my interest in natural healing techniques.

I still believe in surgery as necessary, medicine when warranted. But here is a clarion call for vastly improved drug investigations before the "medicines" are brought to market:

Phase Two: What do YOU Think of this Reclaimed Life?

B'SD

18 Elul, 5772

Welcome back to the blog. It's going in a bit of a new direction.

The books and I have been updating you about my recovery from a catastrophic medical mess plus a world of medical, emotional and financial relief options you didn't know you had.

All that time, I practiced what I preached. Thank GOD, and I mean THANK GOD, that helped.

At this point in time, I am redefined, blessedly healthy and seeing better over time. I'm in Phase 2, past the catastrophic medical situation that affected my life. I've been reclaiming it. I'd like to write about that and share some insights, perhaps a few personal adventures, with you.

I've trained in counseling skills and been accepted as a "perspective coach" within a volunteer organization helping desperately ill people. My social life remains dynamic.

My indulgence in rewarding hobbies has resulted in a lovely garden to show for my efforts. I provide plants to people who appreciate them. My ceramic projects are building a backlog of people who want to buy them from me. Friends invite me to prepare my nutmilks, breads, smoothies and other delicious, soothing kitchen fare to boost their health in delicious ways.

But one thing has gone kerflooey as I redefine and reclaim my life, despite my best efforts: My journalism career has crashed with the rest of the news industry struggling to stay alive in print or online in this digital age. Publications are either out of business or floundering. Editors want my work as I have a years-long following of readers. But, they can no longer pay for my writing.

Journalism is no longer a viable form of employment for me. It's time to move on.

One of many journalists around the world seeking stable employment, my writing skills are diverse. Satisfied clients of my private writing services have remarked favorably about my work. Click on my LinkedIn profile to see the praises I've earned over time.

My mind and health are out of the muck that once encompassed me. I'm in the garden of happiness, eager to find new, rewarding directions.

You're reading this blog and I appreciate your support. Care to share the adventure of my new location in life?

Dear readers, I welcome insights from you. I'm in a transition wondering which direction to pursue next. What can you see me doing for steady income and some fun?

More importantly, what would you like to read at this blog in the future?

When I interview people for a news story, I tend to end conversations with a thought-provoking question: "What do you want to tell me that I never asked  of you?" I invite my interviewees to clue me in to what they are eager to say to the world, something I might have accidentally overlooked. That opens whole new worlds for me and my readers, even the person I'm interviewing.

Now I'm inviting you to respond to me.

I welcome your feedback. Contact me via the comments section or send a message to giveretgolani @ gmail .com

Make my day and yours, maybe someone else's, too ;^ D
