Tonight, a mournful siren will sound across Israel, heralding Memorial Day for soldiers and civilians murdered by enemies of the Jewish state.

Monday's air will fill with weeping as many tears are cried at cemeteries across the land. The tears will belong to people who escaped Hitler's Holocaust, then built new lives, and to other immigrants who've made their way back to the Holy Land. So many "civilizations" have forced Jews from the ancestral home given to us by The Creator.

My energies will soon be focused of celebrating Tuesday's Israel Day of Independence, when modern Israel was declared a state. The name of the newspaper shown below has its own interesting story that once again validates the Jewish history of Israel.

I'm also preparing for a next-week trip to Shilo, site of the ancient Tabernacle (before the construction of the Temples destroyed by Jew-haters). Here are remnants of a 2nd Temple era synagogue (the photos were taken by avid Shilo Musings blogger Batya Medad).

The excitement of sitting upon, stroking and seeing the very structures that long-ago Jews used (read your Bible!) tends to make my heart race as my eyes cry streams of tears.

Exciting is not quite the word for it. Awesome, humbling and privileged are some of the moods and sensations that go through the very cells of my being whenever I'm there.

I'll be joining friends who've long planned our pending get-together. We'll be lunching at a popular spot (call the number on the awning and you can, too!) though I need to bring some organic yummies along for my healing purposes.

Spiritual and physical healing are part of the Ancient Tabernacle and Shilo's GOD-given gifts to humanity.

Whew, I've been on the road this past week, living out of a suitcase and with little to zero access to a computer. Let's catch up with each other!


The New York Times has an interesting article entitled Trying Out New Ways to Deliver Healthcare. I'm interested to know your thoughts about it. So far, I foresee benefits for people who won't have to:

Travel back to a medical office to receive
a "Yes" or "No" answer

Receive a slip of VERY important paperwork, or

Promote better communication among several
medical practitioners involved in that person's
healthcare.

Potential drawbacks can develop, too. So can better care. It's an interesting mix of possibilities. Just like life...


Back here in Israel, we're facing quite a medical challenge of our own: a strike by medical residents. Israel's Ministry of Health needs to straighten this out pronto!

He's Gonna Wash those Drugs Right Outta Your Hair...

Ever heard the song "I'm Gonna Wash that Man Right Outta My Hair" from the show South Pacific? Sounds easy despite the heartache implied in the song's title. What if getting off drugs could be that easy?

Drug addiction is more than a medical crisis. A mental-emotional and physical nightmare, it includes social diseases (some of them deadly), financial crashes and ruined relationships. That's just part of the awful picture.

Malnutrition, caused by drug-affected sphincters that remain too tight at the entrance and at the end of the digestive system, is another serious concern. Food moves s-l-o-w-l-y in an addict's digestive tract. Addicts don't use the toilet much because food is not passing out of them in normal fashion (or at all). Addicts also tend not to feel hunger sensations with their artificially full bellies. They thus fail to seek out and to eat nourishing food, becoming thin and undernourished. Not a good situation for ending the addiction or for getting a life back on track!

Standard and unconventional detoxification methods have had limited success in helping opiate addicts to end their addictions. Addicts sometimes go off drugs for a while, then start using them again. The problem is not mere willpower or the lack of it, it's a neurological response to the addictive substances: It basically hijacks the drug user's personality. They live for more drugs, nothing else.

Now for the GOOD news.

Israeli surgeon Dr. Andre Waismann developed a new method for ending drug addiction. It's almost as simple as hair-washing, which I mentioned above. Waismann (his nickname is "Dr. Wash") uses a medical cocktail to end the neurological feedback loop that causes drug cravings. He also prevents excruciating withdrawal symptoms by using general anesthesia before administering the cure. Some people call this approach "Rapid Opiate Detoxification" or "Accelerated Neuroregulation (ANR)."

Time will tell us how effective ANR can be. Meanwhile, share the news with anyone who might need it. Perhaps it will help them to return to a productive life. And maybe it can save a drug-addicted child.
