Fighting and Preventing CANCER with a New Point of View

B'SD

27 Tevet, 5773

Reading this DNA pioneer James Watson takes aim at "cancer establishments article is educational.

It addresses free radicals/oxidants amply proven - scientifically - to cause cancer and also anti-oxidants that can render them harmless.

Want to know where else you can learn about all that? From competent naturopaths who've helped people to prevent or to recover from cancer with food, sunshine, vitamin supplements and pure water, among other natural healing strategies.

Dr. Watson remarks at the end of the above article that "The biggest obstacle" to a true war against cancer, Watson wrote, may be "the inherently conservative nature of today's cancer research establishments." As long as that's so, "curing cancer will always be 10 or 20 years away."

Care to EMPOWER your efforts to prevent or to beat back cancer? Read a book that clues you in to some competent natural healers who've done just that for their clients. The information can be found in the Global Resources section of that book. It's called

Here's How to Put Out the PAIN from Poison Ivy!

B'SD

26 Av 5772

Vacation time can be compromised when you're nursing the itch and P*A*I*N of Poison Ivy. Here are several pain-stoppers popular in the natural healing world:

  • A paste of baking soda and coffee pack to sit on the rash as it draws out the poison
  • Banana peel straight on the affected skin
  • Bentonite Clay (available from natural healing outlets) mixed with Tumeric (a spice)
  • Milk of Magnesia
  • Plain oatmeal bath or pharmacy-sold popular oatmeal bath preparations which take the itch out of chickenpox sufferers
  • Watermelon slices on the rash

You can learn to identify the problematic plant by seeing photos of different varieties at WIKIHOW's Poison Ivy ID page.

Distract yourselves with as much fun as possible as you recover: Videos, music, good reading, craft projects, anything that occupies your mind more than the pain.

Good luck and let me know which remedy works for you!

Less stress and keep your cash, that’s the theme of EMPOWER Yourself to Cope with a Medical Challenge. It teaches you how to organize that medical and/or disability life, save money and to Get Your Grin Back in one reading. Buy it from Booklocker!

Cures and Comfort for the Common Cold

B'SD

22 Kislev 5770

Want to help your little one, teenager or adults in the family to lose a cold faster than average? Here are some easy recipes for success:

Prepare a soup made ONLY of onions, garlic and a bit of sea salt.

The easily swallowed soup, ingested as much as desired, will direct germs and all kind of yukky stuff to the sewer while hydrating the feverish tyke who breathes with an open mouth.

A small amount of yummy honey brings up phlegm to be spit out.

Teensy-weensy homeopathic Mercurius-Heel S pills help to drain sinus cavities in adults who catch the little one's cold. Take one every 15 minutes for the first hour, then one every 8 hours for several days.

Prepare handkerchiefs for a cozier nose-blowing week (I prefer men's solid hankies because they're sturdier than lacey lady-like stuff). The goo is going to pour out of your head. Er, when I'm home with a cold I use torn dish towels and old washcloths to keep my nose clean and to avoid the harsh abrasion from papery commercial tissues. The soft fabric touch prevents the peeling skin you get from frequent nose-blows. And they keep the pillow clean...

Yes, I often use unexpected solutions to healthcare problems. You just don't always know what it could take to EMPOWER Yourself to Cope with a Medical Challenge.

If You Have Pulmonary Fibrosis, You Need QUALITY SLEEP!

B'SD

27 Tamuz 5768

Pulmonary Fibrosis is a lung-scarring disease that perplexes medical professionals trying to treat it. The cause for PF is not known.

Today's post is for alerting you to the fact that PF causes serious breathing problems for people with this condition. They're starving for a full breath. That often ruins their deepest sleep, called REM.

REM, Rapid Eye Movement is the part of the sleep process that recharges our batteries so we can face the next day and its demands. But people with Pulmonary Fibrosis often waken at this critical time. The loss of REM sleep worsens their situation. It causes fatigue in people already struggling to breathe.

Dr. Sonya Danoff an assistant professor at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine wrote about the problem in Chest, a medical professional's journal. She said: "Physicians should strongly consider monitoring people with this scarring lung disease for sleep disorders as part of their standard care, because poor sleep has a profound effect on their quality of life... Essentially, the body's internal alarms go off as people enter the most rejuvenating part of sleep. And when people don't get a good night's sleep, they cannot function normally the next day. It's a slippery slope that gets progressively worse over time... Because there is so much about pulmonary fibrosis that we cannot yet fix, we need to focus on what we can fix while we wait for research to catch up with treatments that can prevent or reverse the disease."

The latest study results back up previous research by Danoff and other sleep experts at Johns Hopkins: 18 of 22 people with fibrosed lungs had problems breathing while asleep. They kept waking up in a struggle to breathe. The majority of them dropped out of R.E.M. sleep during the night, losing 25 percent of total R.E.M. sleep time. That means they dreamt less and they couldn't build energy they'd desperately need for the next day.

You know how awful you feel and function and after one bad night of poor sleep. Imagine what could happen to you over long periods of time without sufficient sleep.

If you have PF, this is a life-threatening problem.

Want more information on Pulmonary Fibrosis? See: http://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/pulmonary/clinics/interstitial_lung_disease.html

Read my book to learn some excellent relaxation techniques. Work with your doctor if you have PF, focusing together on getting better sleep. It can prolong your life and vastly improve the QUALITY of YOUR LIFE.

Have a Good Health Care Idea?

10 Tevet 5768

My Israeli blog visitors might be interested to know that the Health Ministry invites Israel's citizens to submit requests for new Health Basket benefits.

Suggestions by local citizenry will be prioritized along with those submitted by medical professionals, then added to the recommendations being prepared for the Finance Ministry (it subsidizes national health services). At least that’s what was reported on Page 7 of the Jerusalem Post this past Friday.

Send your politely phrased ideas to public.sal @ moh.gov.il (remove the spaces on either side of the @ symbol after you copy & paste the info into your E-mail system).

***
While we’re on the topic of health care ideas, here are some ways you can avoid trips to the doctor or pharmacy. All you need is a nearby garden or a peek into your kitchen cupboards:

Want to boost your immune system without a big expense? Buy organic Curcumin/Tumeric and cook it in soups, rice, vegetable and meat stews. I even lightly powder salads with it. Adjust the al dente amount according to your preferences.

Here's a bit of exciting information about Curcumin/Tumeric from The Brain Tumor Society (a fan of my blog named Cindi alerted me to it):
http://www.tbts.org/assets/files/Fact%20Sheets/Nutrition_and_Brain_Tumors.pdf

I recommend using canned Crisco (a small container reserved for the changing table) on baby's behind. It will now remain rash and odor-free because ammonia won’t develop on the tender skin. Wash baby’s bottom with pure soaps and water and use cloth diapers as often as possible to minimize diaper-area problems.

Cradle Cap comes off after you've smeared vegetable oil on it. Let it sit a few minutes. A gentle rubdown with baby soap, a simple terry cloth washrag or towel wipes it off. Baby will probably coo as you work. Kiss as often as you wish.

Honey on boo-boos (even for youngsters and adults) is painless and curative. DO NOT use honey on infants under one year of age. It’s life-threatening if they eat it, and babies tend to lick their wounds, let alone sweet stuff.

Aloe juice also cures boo-boos and it dries upon skin like a protective bandage. If you don’t have an aloe plant in the garden or potted in the house, buy one.

Mint toothpaste on itchy bug bites ends the misery. And you'll never have cavities on your ankles or knuckles ;^ )

Liquid soap also ends bug bite itch.

Want to keep bugs off you without using chemical preparations from the store? Crush a clove of garlic, put the liquid in an empty, clean spray bottle and add a bit of water. Spray the liquid lightly onto your sox. You can spray crushed garlic juice and water mixtures onto plants infested with bugs and they will leave the area.

Cooled teabags end under-eye puffiness when you rest them on your lids (my neurosurgeon mentioned this as I giggled upon hearing an old, reliable truth!)

A bar of soap (any type) between the bottom sheet and your mattress cover ends middle-of-the-night leg cramps, though I don’t know why. You get used to the bump (sort of) and if you’re really talented, you can scoot the bar of soap into juuuust the right spot using your ankles. Yeah, there, under that cramped calf muscle… ahhhh….relief! After a week or so, you won’t suffer leg cramps at night. Just keep that soap bar on the mattress pad for long-lasting comfort.

Men, this is for you: you don’t have to scratch your itchy backs on the corner of a doorway any longer. Just grab a plastic pasta fork with smoothly curved prongs and rub it over your shirt above the itchy area (no, not directly on your skin! Yuk!). I refuse to name the guy who taught me that maneuver because he wants to trademark it. I bet he and his wife can still hear me laughing over transatlantic waters… Listen, it saves wear and tear on your skin, let alone the sweater you might be wearing… Give it a try.
