You're NOT Searching for Your Life's Meaning. You're Creating it.

B'SD

11 Sivan, 5775

The 44C/107F-plus  weather in Israel has been brutally hot and physically plus mentally draining this week.

I was simply too tired with the rest of life and the high heat to post messages on this blog. But I had a moving experience yesterday that I want to share with you.

I often volunteer my time, insights and efforts to help people or organizations in need of them. I tend to interact with people and situations involved in medical and/or emotional and mental health stress.

One of the people I'd recently helped took me out for a cup of coffee in an outdoor cafe as the excessively high heat cooled down for the Middle East night. We spoke of the person's life history (I had not previously known it), attitude toward the future, and assessment of a highly problematic past. The conversation became charged with spiritual implications and realizations.

I do Self-Help Coaching with clients who are uncertain of how to proceed with their futures because of their medical conditions. I help them to clarify their challenges, identify their goals and to create an agenda for achieving those goals. Then they're on their own, to make necessary efforts.

The person before me had done this without my input. I found the courage, clear headedness and humility captivating (please notice that I'm intentionally avoiding pronouns such as "him" or "her" so I can protect the person's privacy). With further discussion, we agreed that such a mindset is due to one specific focus:

You're not searching for your life's meaning.
You're creating it.

So many people trek around the world, ingest (usually illegal and unsafe) substances or indulge in unproductive self-analysis as they seek emotional comfort. They remain stuck, not necessarily knowing why that's so. People who are "looking for themselves" tend be trying to escape their thinking processes and emotional tendencies, not in finding their true self and then making progress.

The solution to the problem is attitudinal.

Choose to make progress instead of swirling in the aftermath of unpleasant circumstances.

Make incremental changes, one at a time.

The person before me at the cafe had done so despite horrific betrayals and medical manipulation. I was awed at the result: A face glowing with self respect, a person making sensible choices, and a life going forward despite the bumps that tend to whack us mortals when we least expect them.

I then explained that

http://www.booklocker.com/p/books/3067.html?s=TrackingCode

shows readers how to do much of that
with the cooperation of loved ones,
their medical professionals,
or all on their own.

The book holds fill-in-the-blank lines
that you and/or they can fill in together
or individually.

I came away from the conversation happier for realizing that I'd made a choice to empower my readers. It's no simple matter to carry on with heartache, debts and illness that seem to impede many simple choices. Over time, some of those readers have contacted me to express their gratitude for the content.

I pray that the book will help you to create some of your life's meaning.

I salute you for your determination and your focus on a better tomorrow.

Here's an insightful look at what you're accomplishing.

How to End the Dramatic Increase in Abuse of Prescription Painkillers

B'SD

7 Tammuz

This headline article Dramatic Increase in Abuse of Rx Painkillers doesn't address some relevant issues:

  • Men are unfairly pressured to pretend they can cope with heartache and physical pain

  • Men too often feel or believe that they can't trust someone to help them even after courageously admitting they need some sort of help

  • The medical world too often fails to monitor the use of a patient's drug use and potential for drug abuse

  • Society and the medical world need to admit that men are human, deserve compassion and pain relief - psychological, spiritual and physical

We can turn those realities around into a can-do coping strategy. It takes courage, some training by competent therapists and clinicians, an attitude adjustment in society (start a movement among your friends and colleagues!) and a desire to prevent tragedy.

By the way, many of the "Thank you" letters, E-mails and phone calls I receive for

are from men! I suspect that I know why:

  1. The book is FILLED with privacy-protected answers to questions they need/want to ask. Too often men are simply unaware of whom they can trust to answer them and to protect their confidentiality. The EMPOWER Yourself book is a safe outlet with information that men need.
  2. EMPOWER Yourself lets them calm down, read and re-read the sections important to them in the confidential surroundings of their home, office or wherever they read the book.

Men, you deserve many healing, helpful breaks. As I tell my Self-Help Coaching clients and book buyers, "A medical crisis - you'd cry too, if it happened to you. Use your tissues and handkerchiefs with my blessings borne of experience. GOD gives you Permission to Weep. And you can say that to any critics after explaining that 'It's MY Crisis! And I'll Cry if I Need To.'"

Be sure to read pages 4 and 5, to get that FYI on your license to cry.

Simple Steps for Coping with Medical Crises

B'SD

7 Kislev 5769

Some title, huh? It is NOT simple or easy to cope with a medical crisis, and that's why the word CRISIS applies to the situation. Your life or someone else's is falling apart as the medical problem dominates your thoughts and energies (what's left of them, anyway).

However... there are techniques for mastering your emotions and the crazy schedule in your medically muddled life. There are simple, safe and productive steps you can take to minimize the hectic, bewildering situation.

I've faced multiple medical crises. I wrote a book about my astonishing recovery and how that happened. The advice and insights that I share in It's My Crisis! And I'll Cry if I Need To: A Life Book that Helps You to Dry Your Tears and to Cope with a Medical Challenge are universal. My approach works for medical professionals and the people they're treating. You, for instance. find out when you BUY YOUR COPY today.

Humor is a huge part of any successful coping process.
I use it liberally throughout my book
and speaking engagements.

North American audiences
will experience that soon.
I leave for my speaking tour next week.

This post has been brought to you by my enduring promotional efforts to inform the world at large about my book... the commercial you were all waiting for.

Hoping to see you in the audience soon,

When Doctors Become Patients

4 Adar Alef 5768

It's a non-Israeli Saturday night here in Israel as I type. I apologize for the confusion of dates/times. According to the Jewish calendar, its already Sunday. Blogger lets me tap in Hebrew if I wish, but hasn't yet adjusted its clock for Middle East locations or customs.

I rarely post on the weekend (I'm usually in a social whirl and I figure you are, too), but I just came across this wonderfully insightful article entitled...

(CHECK OUT READER COMMENT #57)

As a woman who suffered the medical "system" several times over in order to save my life, I sure hope that medical professionals will buy Dr. Robert Klitzman's book.

My usual mode is to be quite cheerful even when I'm hospitalized, but I became quite sad, fearful and outspoken this past December-January when...

  • ... Not one staff member helped me to eat my meals despite my broken dominant arm

  • ... "Yank her broken arm harder!" orthopedics ward nursing staff abused my body, removed my call button and denied me access to the in-house religious services department as I suffered their alleged "care"

  • ... Nursing staff failed to provide basic equipment to me for over a week (a visitor summoned the head nurse to force her recognition and repair of the problem)

  • ... One particular patient kept the entire ward awake with her incessant cell phone calls throughout every night.

  • ... And when unit secretaries erred at setting up my in-hospital and out-patient appointments. Imagine the toll that their repeated mistakes took on my health...

Doctors were puzzled over my 2.5 kilogram (5.5 pounds) weight loss within 7 bed-ridden days and upset about my ever-escalating blood pressure. They did not comprehend how poorly the nursing staff behaved to me, let alone that I experienced horrific pain from the fracture compounded by rough handling from the nurses while ingesting several narcotic painkillers daily on a usually empty tummy.

Other problems occurred due to nursing negligence and simple nurse nastiness on my watch. This is not the correct forum to list each item of concern. But I can thank The One Above for the terrifying, and temporary (whew!) experience. The insight I gained enables me to help others in that predicament. I hope to get you OUT of it and to prevent the problem altogether for other patients.

How did I survive the mismanagement of my well-being? I practiced the mental health exercises listed in my book.
And friends brought me vitally necessary nourishment
at every visit.

Doctors, you saved my life and my arm, but your nursing staff almost killed me. And the uber-rude cell-phone caller of a patient in my ward tortured many other people trying to sleep at night, not just me. Her acid tongue scared our fellow patients whenever they asked her to "hang up already!" I was simply the only one unafraid to publicly complain about her!

Dr. Klitzman and I have experienced life on the other side of the hospital blanket. It's not a cozy experience. Intimidating, counter-productive and downright dangerous are accurate descriptions of our encounters.

Sadly enough, other patients worldwide have suffered,
and will yet suffer, as I have. They'll experience different problems, too. But they shouldn't experience anything other than optimal care. Read Dr. Klitzman's book and learn how to take better care of your patients no matter where you work. You do want your patients to heal in an optimal manner, right?

~*~
I adore you, doctors, but you have something to learn about fostering optimal patient care. May The One Above keep you in excellent health and humor. I prefer that you not learn Dr. Klitzman's lessons the hard way. Please. Read his book.
