How to Stop a Pedophile

B'SD

28 Shvat, 5774

Sexual molestation of children is a soul-ripping hell.

The defenseless victims are often too young or too much in shock and horror to find the words that explain what was done to them.

Caring, compassionate adults are morally obligated to protect children from sex predators and anyone who wants to harm them. The predators can be male or female, relatives, teachers, camp counselors, youth group leaders, neighbors and anybody else.

Those same compassionate adults are morally obligated to provide the child ith effective therapy for getting past the trauma, perhaps several sexual molestation traumas.

I began to report about innovative programs to help the victims of child molesters and programs to prevent molesters from hurting more people back in 1996, when Nefesh Israel (www.nefesh.org) launched such activities.

I attended a relevant program last week:

I'd like to share an E-mail exchange between me and Dr Pelcovitz. It can educate you:

"If I recall correctly Dr Pelcovitz, you explained that interviewed perverts rationalize that their young victims are too young to remember the abuse foisted on them.

I find that lie easy to expose: Do the perverts recall when they were first, or ever, molested? Yes, they do. Those memories are intact.

Why not confront them with their lie? If they've been confronted with the inconsistency, do they re-rationalize their behavior? What is the lesson for society, in 50 words or less?

I request that you provide your listeners with

1) Handouts describing the body language and personality characteristics of perverts

2) Please remind me of the researcher who discovered that fMRIs reveal the shutdown of language centers during sexual and other trauma. I suspect that the reality could force a change in halacha regarding victims who do not scream for help.

I'm hoping you recall that I wrote about your groundbreaking work for the Jewish - and wider - communities in The Jewish Press, back in 1996 or so, when Nefesh Israel held its kenes (YG: convention) in Baltimore. I believe the event was labeled 'Shhh... It's Not a Secret Anymore.'"

Dr Pelcovitz quickly replied , "I couldn't agree more. We do confront them.  That is the essence of their problem and the nature of that component of therapy.- they lie to themselves and it's the job of the therapist to uncover this and challenge them.

Handouts are a good idea for future programs. The researcher I was referring to is Dr Bessel van der Kolk."

The New York Times Wellness blog has very important information for people who want to join clinical trials for cancer. A Phase 3 Trial for melanoma is open. E-mail genentechclinicaltrials@druginfo.com for information.

Other articles at the site explain
snow days from an overworked doctor's point of view, how to cope with vitiligo, weight loss advice (that works!) and how to treat sex addiction.

Want more information along those lines? You need to read EMPOWER Yourself to Cope with a Medical Challenge.

XENO-what????????????

B'SD

5 Shvat 5770

YUK! While editing a multi-media presentation's content for one of my Writing Services clients, I learned that many cosmetics and hair care items (shampoos, crème rinses) for men and women contain something called Xenoestrogens. They're synthetic versions of the human body's hormones. They might make you look glamorous But WOW do they mess up health!

Diagnos- Techs Lab in Washington State ran relevant tests and discovered the problem.

Check out this Warning I learned as I edited those materials:

Some manufacturers use lower than minimally permitted amounts of synthetic hormones, hoping to slip in under the detection radar of regulatory agencies. Or, they use the chemicals on some runs but not others, conning customers into preferring specific brands while the cunning manufacturer appears to obey health regulations. Not only will that leave you wondering why your hair, skin and energy qualities aren't consistent over time, it will also make you wonder why your sexual functions are off-kilter.

Which sexual functions? Perfomance and fertility for starters. Monthly cycles in women, too.

I know it sounds trite and boring, but folks, please use simple hygiene products that only get you clean. Your hormonal system does not tolerate tampering.

Make a list of what you need on your bathroom shelves and counters, and in your cosmetics bag. Buy it all at a natural health care shop.

Cry if you need to. And learn to dry your tears. THAT can help you to

Male Sexual Dysfunction and BPA...

B'SD

28 Cheshvan 5770

One of the male fans of this blog, Aryeh Zelasko, alerted me to the following news item:

Workplace BPA Exposure Increases Risk Of Male Sexual DysfunctionScienceDaily (Nov. 11, 2009)

High levels of workplace exposure to Bisphenol-A may increase the risk of reduced sexual function in men, according to a Kaiser Permanente study appearing in the journal Human Reproduction.

The five-year study examined 634 workers in factories in China, comparing workers in BPA manufacturing facilities with a control group of workers in factories where no BPA was present. The study found that the workers in the BPA facilities had quadruple the risk of erectile dysfunction, and seven times more risk of ejaculation difficulty.

This is the first research study to look at the effect of BPA on the male reproductive system in humans. Previous animal studies have shown that BPA has a detrimental effect on male reproductive system in mice and rats.

Funded by the U.S. National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health, this study adds to the body of evidence questioning the safety of BPA, a chemical made in the
Exposure Increases Risk of Male Sexual Dysfunction production of polycarbonated plastics and epoxy resins found in baby bottles, plastic containers, the lining of cans used for food and beverages, and in dental sealants.

Science Daily: Workplace BPA

Replace your plastic plates, cutlery, cups and the rest of your kitchenware with Cast Iron (skillets, utensils), Ceramic (mugs, plates, bowls, etc.), Fabric or genuine Paper Napkins and Place mats instead of synthetic varieties, Glass (jugs and drinkware), Porcelain (mixing bowls and pots), and Wood (dish raks, mixing bowls, serving pieces).

On the go? Drink from GLASS bottles (e.g., used wine and grape juice bottles washed clean for this purpose). And use metal trash cans instead of plastic.

By the way, consider reducing the above health risks to your children by removing all the plasticware at their table settings, in their toy supply and on their bottoms. Georgetown Universtiy Medical Center professional Dr. L. Silver and the Institute for Children's Environmental Health insist that plastic diapers and other items in childhood represent serious health concerns.

Sippy Cups/Training Cups Can be DANGEROUS for Children.

End your doubts and vulnerabilities. Live life on the safer side of chemical reality. You can still buy glass baby bottles, rubber nipples instead of synthetics, and cotton diapers (er, plastic-lined diapers have been proven to harm to baby's reproductive organs).

Read a book about how to ease into that reality and lots of other helpful stuff.
