The basic problem here is that lots of folks are too lazy to exercise, though simple walks to the store and around the block can do wonders for waistlines.
The other part of the problem is denying reality, including the need to eat nutritious food rather than "feel good" food that usually holds mega calories. Mall muffins come to mind. Burger bars and huge cups of colorful, hi-calorie drinks can hijack your health, too.
