Drying Off after the Storm

B'SD

15 Cheshvan, 5773

The world is full of photos and horror stories, awed by Hurricane Sandy. Good-hearted people are helping others to cope with the consequences. I add my prayers to the many asking GOD for inner strength, insight into the spiritual lessons involved with the storm, and recovery from the experience.

I do not plan to be blogging next week as I'll be on a long-planned trip far from home. I wish you well, and plan to update this blog as of the second week in November.

The holidays and gift-giving season
are upon us,
though many Americans
are suffering severe financial destruction
with their damaged homes and businesses.

If you can, supply someone
who needs the cost-cutting,
time and sanity-saving information
of

with a gift copy.

Individual copies can be bought here

BULK orders can be made here

Medical, business and charitable organizations would be wise to lighten the burdens of people hurting in many ways from the storm and its aftermath. The calming relief can go a long way.

A medical and natural disaster crisis - you'd cry too, if it happened to you. Use your tissues and handkerchiefs with my blessings borne of experience. GOD gives you Permission to Weep. And you can say that to any critics after explaining that "It's MY Crisis! And I'll Cry if I Need To, see page 5!"

Wishing you a brighter holiday season ,

In Northeast USA? Follow Evacuation Instructions!

B'SD

If you're in the path of Frankenstorm/Hurricane Sandy, follow directions from the police, firemen and FEMA. If you need help to evacuate, ASK for it without delay. Call toll-free 1-888-697-6972 or call police! Cooperate with them and do not put the heroes at further risk.

See http://www.ready.gov/ for some survival tips.

We in Israel - and probably good-hearted people around the world -  are praying for your safety.

Personally, I haven't heard of a storm this fearsome since the plagues hit Egypt long ago. WOW.

Care to Share Some TV Time?

B'SD

9 Cheshvan, 5773

Several days ago I was running around Jerusalem, wondering "What's the next miracle in my life gonna be?" and stopped to ask a guy if the bus stop I seek goes to a destination I need. He responded in Hebrew but I heard a distinct Anglo accent in a voice I recognized. I took off my sunglasses and greeted one of my Facebook friends, Lowell Gallin! He bust out laughing and booked me for  a 10-minute tv segment for his online Laura and Lowell show based in New York!

The filming went easily this morning as Lowell and I attracted an impromptu Jerusalem audience with our easy banter. I managed to get things right in one take (I'm still a "One Take Wonder").

I'll alert you when the show has been uploaded to YouTube (my Refua Radio Show went KAPUT after YouTube made it harder and harder to share).

As it happens, the small audience was deeply impressed by the information I shared. They called the show "Inspirational!"

Lowell just might record me on a regular basis for a while. I'm interested to find out how that can help listeners and readers.

Let me know what's on your mind regarding health concerns. Perhaps I can address your issues and questions on the show next time it's filmed. Let's share some TV time for your benefit.

How to Take the Chance Before You

B'SD

7 Cheshvan, 5773

Last night I was in on a training session for paraprofessionals helping chronically and/or terminally ill people to face their situations with dignity and compassion.

The group leader reminded us of a wonderful song by Tim McGraw, Live Like You Were Dying. It teaches us to take the chance before us, not to let it go neglected.

Here are the lyrics/words to the song:

He said "I was in my early forties
With a lot of life before me
And a moment came that
stopped me on a dime
I spent most of the next days
Looking at the x-rays
Talkin' 'bout the options
And talkin' 'bout sweet time"

I asked him "When it sank in
 That this might really be
the real end
How's it hit you
When you get
that kind of news?
Man, what'd you do?"

He said "I went skydiving
I went Rocky Mountain climbing
I went 2.7 seconds on a bull
named Fu Man Chu
And I loved deeper
And I spoke sweeter
And I gave forgiveness
I'd been denying"

And he said "Someday I hope you
get the chance
To live like you were dying"
He said "I was finally the husband
That most of the time I wasn't
And I became a friend a
friend would like to have
And all of a sudden going fishin'
Wasn't such an imposition
And I went three times
that year I lost my dad
I finally read the Good Book, and
I Took a good, long, hard look
At what I'd do if
I could do it all again

And then I went skydiving
I went Rocky Mountain climbing
I went 2.7 seconds on a bull
named Blue Manchu
And I loved deeper
 And I spoke sweeter
And I gave forgiveness
I'd been denying"
And he said "Someday I hope
you get the chance
To live like you were dying
Like tomorrow was a gift
And you've got eternity
To think about
What you'd do with it
What could you do with it

What did I do with it?
What would I do with it?
 Skydiving
I went Rocky mountain climbing
I went 2.7 seconds on a bull
named Blue Manchu
And I loved deeper
And I spoke sweeter
And I watched an eagle
as it was flying"
And he said "Someday I hope
you get the chance
To live like you were dying
To live like you were dying
To live like you were dying..."

Eat Chocolate, Lose Weight and Miracles to Make Us Laugh

B'SD

6 Cheshvan, 5773

A snarky comment to indicate skepticism goes something like this: "Eat Chocolate and LOSE Weight!" The funny thing is, I do eat a specific amount of chocolate daily, and lost weight when I needed to anyway. My dining habits are sound, and the brand of chocolate I use is low in sugar, high in theobroma/cacao. That supports heart and brain health, but not wide waistlines.

There's a Spanish saying I enjoy, "Las cosas claras y el chocolate espeso" (Ideas should be clear and chocolate thick). On that note I'll share a little miracle with you.

I was in the BIG city of Jerusalem today,
wondering which miracles
might happen to me.

I was surprised when I
unintentionally met up with
a guy who has a television show.
He asked if he could feature me on it
tomorrow.

I answered "Yes, I'd be delighted!"
(as I laughed to myself
"This is kinda miraculous!").

Let me know what you'd like to me to speak about FAST! Leave your comments below this blogpost.

The possible topics are:

  • The EMPOWER Yourself book,
  • The medical miracles in my life,
  • How to make miracles happen (trust me, there are tried and true ways - within limits)
  • Or something else.

Let's find out if talking about miracles or other medical issues can have us sharing a few laughs. Laughter is very good for health!

Dealing with Disappointment While Wearing a Smile!

B'SD

1 Cheshvan, 5773

I'm taking my own advice on how to deal with disappointment (read through the EMPOWER Yourself book for tips about that!). The frustrations and slowdowns involved with launching a radio show suited to the needs of my readers and the wider public is one tall task.

I'll let you know when success is at hand. Meanwhile, I'm pursuing the simplest format I can. I am not a techno-whiz and several assistants,  let alone media models, have left me disappointed.

Here's an excerpt from the book about how to cope with frustrations:

... Somebody else will have to do the laundry, drive the car pool, meet a deadline or mow the lawn. Your disappointment is the size of Texas, and we'll deal with that in a bit. First, let's focus on a recess from your busy schedule.

Take a BIG breath, let it out slowly and repeat that exercise until you feel the muscles in your neck, back, stomach, and legs relax. Do some creative visualization if that helps: imagine that you are in a deck chair on a softly rocking cruise ship, sunning yourself on a lovely beach or surrendering to a cozy hammock with a good book, some great music and the snack of your dreams.

Purposely remember how much money people happily pay to be able to do these things on vacation. Then sneak a grin. Smile because you know you are acting like a vacationing hotshot as you select the CDs, tapes and radio stations you're going to listen to as you ease yourself into a dreamy, healing mood in...

Crossing Jordan - and Begging Heaven to Heal a Special Lady

B'SD

26 Tishrei, 5773

One of the activities of that face-to-face Facebook group members meeting the other day was to pray for ill people to heal emotionally, physically and spiritually. The impetus for that was the stunning news that a heroic lady and her husband have been faced once more with her battle to defeat cancer.

You can read their touching, motivational blog Crossing Jordan (the Yarden in Hebrew) and join the people in Stella's army praying for her recovery. Stella's Hebrew name is Tzureeya Kokhevet bat Sara (Tzureeya Star daughter of Sara. Sorry, Tzureeya doesn't translate into easy English).

I'm trying to get a copy of

to her via a mutual friend, as it lists worldwide organizations willing to pay for part or all of Stella's (or anyone's) medical and medication costs. If you want to help us to accomplish the mission of mercy, contact me via giveretgolani@gmail.com.

You can see a few of us holding on to our prayer booklets in this photo by fellow blogger Batya Medad

(my booklet is in my hand but was cropped out of the photo to fit this blogpost).

Joy is part of life. A little guy let me dance with him to make a mood of happiness to improve anyone's outlook and life. GOD willing we'll dance again to celebrate Stella's healthy victory.

Leave a message  for Stella to read
in the "comments" section.

Catching Up Before the Gift-Giving Season Holiday Season Gets You Down!

B'SD

25 Tishrei, 5773

Sorry I haven't blogged much, lately. I'm preparing to relaunch the Refua Radio Show (Refua means "healing" in Hebrew), and it is one detail-oriented project!

I spent today having fun, meeting with fans of

and learned how the book helps readers with cancer, diabetes, fibromyalgia, brain tumors - and much more - in unexpected ways, as they dined on delicious food and spoke of the emotional and health challenges of holidays plus life in general.

Here's a partial photo of some of who attended the event (see my other Facebook page for details!):

I'm in the orange sundress, holding one of the prayer booklets (tehilim mekhulak) the group used to ask The One Above for the healing and improved coping skills of ill people worldwide.

My trip home left me thinking "What's yummier than pumpkin pie at this time of year? A book that makes you feel better!

Protect Your Breast Health with Good Sense and FACTS You Need to Know

B'SD

18 Tishrei, 5773

I'm celebrating the week of Sukot, and taking a break to update this blog with news you need to know. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Men get breast cancer, too, but many men and women don't know that, or how best to discover breast tumors. I prepared a news article for the occasion and submitted it for review to medical experts.

A medical professional who'd read over my pending feature story about alternatives to potentially cancer-causing breast mammograms remarked "Thank you for your good work at increasing breast health awareness... it sounds very professional."

If things go as planned, the article goes live next week, right after Sukot. Stay tuned for news you need to know.

Meanwhile, click on Ten Israeli Advances in Fighting Breast Cancer.

Does the thought of breast cancer upset you? That's normal. A medical crisis - you'd cry too, if it happened to you. Use your tissues and handkerchiefs with my blessings borne of experience. GOD gives you Permission to Weep. And you can say that to any critics after explaining that "It's MY Crisis! And I'll Cry if I Need To. Read pages 4 and 5!"

A Book that's Rising in the Reader Polls!

B'SD

15 Tishrei, 5773

OY. Sales of the EMPOWER Yourself to Cope with a Medical Challenge book are rapidly rising. I suspect it's because some US voters fear that Obama will win re-election.

He'll win by a landslide I betcha, considering that polls have the top two presidential candidates at neck and neck numbers.

Here's what democrats
