Share a Delicious Evening with Me!

B'SD

13 Av, 5775

I enjoyed a remarkable experience last night. I met and interacted with Victoria Barayev, a macrobiotic chef. Victoria taught the basics of macrobiotic cooking to a crowd of interested Israelis. She is visiting Israel and based in the USA.

I was struck by the fact that she spoke to us as intelligent people, not as ignoramuses in need of an education. Instructors who do that quickly lose my attention span.

A skeptic of macrobiotic "dining," I had long believed it to be a system of food and pleasure deprivation. But my mind has opened to other possibilities after meeting people healed by, or experiencing vastly improved health due to, macrobiotic diets. I sought out information about the healing properties and flavors of macrobiotic guidelines. That led to learning of US-based Victoria and her guest appearance in Israel last night.

I enjoyed a thoroughly delicious meal that I helped to prepare under Victoria's guidance. I'd be happy to serve it to anyone!

I'm favorably impressed with the nutritional richness of the fresh and cooked food that we enjoyed:

Mung Bean Basil Soup
Quinoa/Buckwheat Salad with Cilantro Pesto
and Tempeh Croutons
Chickpea-Hiziki Omelet
Cashew Cream Cheese
No-Cook Peach-Chia Pudding Pie

I enjoyed seconds of each item, so I could savor the flavors and remember them for my solo preparation efforts.

You can visit
Victoria's website
at http://www.victoriabarayev.com/

One of the lessons that caught my attention last night was the fact that macrobiotic dining includes Principal foods necessary for optimal health, Complementary foods that add pleasure to the dining experience, and Special foods for occasional treats - not regular ingestion. It's as normal as life should be: No excess, simple goodness. No deprivation involved.

Here are candid photos of Victoria and the diners, some of whom met for the first time.

By the way, I have a motive for macrobiotic dining. Stay tuned to my healing story.  My friends and I are praying for an imminent miracle.

Here's How to Get Your Grin Back Despite Illness or Disability

B'SD

25 Kislev 5772

Holidays are inconvenient times for bad moods, yours included. The best way to get past the emotional block is to count your blessings and to invest in a Purposely Positive Point of View (something I blogged about after the first edition of my book was published).

In today's rushed world with scary news headlines, too much time in cyberspace and ever-developing medical world with all its ups and downs, we need to calm down, to collect our thoughts and to breathe calmly.

Guess what I'm doing about that?

I'm preparing a series of humor columns about coping with illness/disability. Some of it will be outtakes of

Yes, there's laugh out loud humor in the otherwise serious book. Mark Twain weighs in with thoughts about harnessing bad habits to make them - and you - good! Georia O'Keefe opines about a few things... And wait'll you read some of the other riffs by a global collection of time-traveling humorists.

Here's how to get your grin back despite the hardships of emotional, physical illness and/or disability: Read it today. Buy your copy via http://booklocker.com/books/3067.html

Bulk orders can be made at https://secure.booklocker.com/booklocker/wholesale/order.php in time for the start of the new year.

Learn the story of the book's title on page 5. A medical crisis - you'd cry too, if it happened to you. Use your tissues and handkerchiefs with my blessings borne of experience. GOD gives you Permission to Weep. And you can say that to any critics after explaining that "It's MY Crisis! And I'll Cry if I Need To."

Craniosacral Therapy Opens Healing Possibilities!

B'SD

18 Cheshvan 18 5772

One of the remarkable events of my healing journey concerns the eyelid paralyzed by life-saving brain surgery. Yes, the surgeon removed the benign tumor crushing my optic nerves and all the others caught in its hold. But the experience traumatized my body. It left me weak, in need of physical, speech and occupational therapy. And I needed to see again.

My entire medical team knew I could see only glimmers. And, those medical professionals predicted that the glimmer would fade to black, forever. They expected me to be blind lifelong. None of them seemed especially concerned at the paralyzed eyelid that would otherwise block my view. But as you read EMPOWER Yourself to Cope with a Medical Challenge you’ll learn how I revved up my motivation to be as functional as possible with the life left before me. That motivation included lifting the eyelid with nerves too weak to make it rise or even to flicker a bit.

I went for craniosacral therapy from a practitioner trained by a leader in the field, John Upledger himself. That practitioner, Andrea/Chana Bracha Kornfeld, quickly made my craniosacral fluids move in a more optimal fashion (CSF fills our spinal cords and surrounds our brains, helping them to function). The once paralyzed eyelid fluttered open, though at half mast. With further treatment, we watched it rise to an increasingly normal position. Today, few people can detect the slightly off-kilter position of the rather normal-looking oval.

Andrea/Chana Bracha and I worked together for months to promote other healing. My skull, damaged by surgery, regained strength, correct positioning and – years after the surgical event – healthy new bone!

I’ve watched Andrea/Chana Bracha and other craniosacral practitioners effect miraculous results in babies, children and adults of all ages. The process is rather pleasant. The patient sits comfortably or lies upon a treatment table as the craniosacral therapist (CST) lightly touches them to promote the improved flow of the CS fluids.

Need a Healthy Liver?

B'SD

Here's another exciting mid-day update this week!

If you've read my books you know that in 2005 and 2008 I was exposed to many chemicals during surgery and from follow-up medications. And you know what I did to counteract their negative effects.

Let's fast-forward
a few years to the future.

We'll stop at today for a bit ;^ )

These past few weeks I've been going through my annual battery of medical exams to monitor my ever-improving sight and overall health (they seemed to be going dangerously downhill before I made significant changes in my lifestyle). I've been reaching my appointments for weeks, and smiling brightly to all the medical professionals scurrying about me. I know the drill and perform my tasks with lots of past practice.

I'm delighted to take these tests because
I know what we'll learn from them.

Here's some great news: Today my family doctor informed me that my liver is unusually healthy.

"The
alkaline-phosphatase levels keep going down each time we test your blood. You've now reached normal levels. HOW are you doing this?" the surprised doctor exclaimed. His confusion stemmed from additional reports about my exceptional bone, neurological and overall health. And that's after my harrowing life-or-death emergency experiences.

I told him about what I do. He was fascinated and kept talking to me as other patients waited their turns.

Do YOU Need to know how to make your liver healthier? How about your eyes? Blood? Other parts of your health picture? Ya gotta read EMPOWER Yourself to Cope with a Medical Challenge.

Keratoconus Contact Lens

4 Tevet 5768

Keratoconus is the problem of a bulging cornea. It disturbs vision and it's difficult to treat. Dry Eye and some other visual problems can be resolved to some extent with a rather newish invention that also improves vision for people with Keratoconus.

The Boston Foundation for Sight created the Boston Scleral Lens Prosthetic Device. It’s a contact lens for people with unusual eye health problems. A nifty solution for people who have not found anything else that helps them to see better, the Scleral Lens can be a great help. See http://www.bostonsight.org/ for more information.
