Borderline Diabetics Beware!

Whew, it's tiring to be on the road, and a bit perplexing. I have to keep checking on the date and location to keep my focus sharp. The good news is that readers are buying my book and thanking me for alerting them to can-do lifesaving measures.

SWEETENED BEVERAGE CONSUMPTION INCREASES IN THE U.S.

The January 2009 issue of the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition reveals that in the past 20 years or so, the number of adults consuming sugar-sweetened beverages such as soft drinks, fruit drinks and punches shot up. "More adults are drinking sugar-sweetened beverages and, among those drinkers, consumption has increased," said Sara N. Bleich, PhD, lead author of the study and assistant professor with the Bloomberg School's Department of Health Policy and Management. "From 1988 to 2004, the percentage of sugar-sweetened beverage drinkers increased five percent. Per capita consumption of energy from sugar-sweetened beverages increased 46 kilocalories (kcal) per day, and daily sugar-sweetened beverage consumption among drinkers increased 6 ounces per day."

"Based on these nationally representative surveys, our study found higher sugar-sweetened beverage consumption also happened to be among populations at greater risk for obesity. There are few signs of improvement over the past decade and the situation seems to become worse among young adults aged 20 to 44."

The experts who prepared the report mentioned above recommend that reducing sugar-sweetened beverage consumption may be an important strategy for reducing empty calorie intake in the adult diet. And it's not rocket science to figure out that as you get fatter, your glucose level goes bonkers.

Skip the nightmare of lifelong insulin dependence and constant checking of your blood. Bypass restrictive diets.

Toss the colorful bottled beverages and DRINK CLEAR, GOOD-FOR-YOU WATER.

Enhance Your Brainpower with...

I'm getting a headache from the somewhat cavalier attitude that part of the medical world seems to show to the rest of us.


We have proof that many drugs harmed the people they were supposed to help; people suffering some sort of medical problem. Read my recent posts. You don't have to be Einstein to understand this phenom.



Granted, medical professionals make mistakes even though their efforts might come from a genuine desire to prevent harm and to promote health. That consideration makes the announcement above all the more striking: A) Why haven't allegedly smart people learned from past mistakes? B) Why on earth should anyone try to fix what isn't broken? Healthy people don't NEED drugs. Read the ethical considerations about this trend when you click on NATURE magazine.

You want to enhance your IQ?
Improve your ability to remain awake and alert for longer periods of time?
Avoid things that can upset your quality of life?

Take the safe direction to reach those goals. Read high-quality literature, attend interesting presentations and lectures. Listen to and study music, math, a foreign language. Eat a highly nutritious diet and skip the junk food (I've probably told you in the past that junk food is another name for Brain Drain).

Kislev is a month filled with the light of Chanuka and miraculous rescue for the Jewish people. But Jews around the world are still weeping for the recent, tragic loss of life in India. I've struggled to work towards something worthwhile as my response to the horror. Here is an initial effort:
