Cancer Causes, Dumb Diets, Rude Doctors, and...

There's plenty of good news in the medical world, and some of it is because increasing numbers of doctors admit that their recommended diets don't work. 

Studies are being reconsidered, redesigned, and reclassified so that medical professionals can help people to lose weight easily and sensibly. Increasing attention is being paid to those of us who do not struggle with weight control, and why.

Those updated healthcare professionals can help people to prevent becoming overweight in the first place.

For those of us in the natural healing world, weight control is a matter of understanding specific principles. Here's a starter kit for thinking as we do:


Food is a significant part of the problem - the WRONG food, that is. It can affect fertility, weight, energy levels, health, mood, and more.

I know one naturopath invited to many baby namings because she advises infertility clients to stop ingesting dairy foods. They're full of Mama Animal's hormones, designed to fatten up her children. They create havoc with human hormones. Add in the synthetic hormones from hygiene products that I've warned you about at this blog, and infertility plus obesity easily become "OMIGAWD why am I fat and/or infertile?" issues.

People complain that they can't keep their weight down as they swallow more lo-cal ice cream, lo-fat cottage and reduced-calories sliced cheese, etc. THEY EAT THEIR OWN PROBLEM, GUARANTEEING THAT IT WILL CONTINUE UNTIL THEY STOP SWALLOWING DAIRY "FOODS" DESIGNED FOR ANIMALS, NOT FOR HUMANS.


Weight control is not simply a matter 
of calorie restrictions. 

If you eat dairy foods you eat 
hormonal instructions 
to make your body fat.

It's also important to support thyroid health when your energy levels fall and your weight rises. Add iodine-rich seaweed to your menus.


Sushi is made with nori leaves. Enjoy your weight-management meal.

Kombu is a seaweed sold in flakes and as leaves. Add them to your lentil dishes.




Arame, wakame and other sea leaves make lovely additions to a meal. I decorate steaming hot sweet potato with strands of arame, The pretty orange-green color combination is eye candy. The flavor of the dish is mouth candy that's nutritious for inner and outer health.

There's far more to the natural weight-control life. I only offered a glimpse into it with the thoughts above.

Okay, on to the next topic for today: WHEN DOCTORS BLAME THEIR PATIENTS FOR PROBLEMS THAT THEY DIDN'T CAUSE!

Your Tendencies are NOT a Life Sentence

One of the dominant themes of the EMPOWER Yourself to Cope with a Medical Challenge print and E- book is that you need not be locked into a psychological limitation. People are able to choose their attitudes and perspectives, even to get their grins back (my goal in helping you!) despite painful setbacks and situations.

I use the empowerment/ability to choose a new way of thinking and behaving model when I coach people, too.

Listen to the intention embedded in my response below. It was directed to someone who decided that she cannot behave in any manner other than the one to which she's psychologically inclined according to the Enneagram (a system for gaining insight into our instincts, motives, preferences, strengths, and weaknesses, plus those of other people):

"Being a specific number is not a life sentence. Some of us grow up. It is a matter of mastering the insights into our personalities, developing the character/maturity to stifle impulses so that we don't sabotage our self interests, and choosing to remain in the ideal level. It takes work and practice plus a sense of commitment. The Enneagram is a tool for growth, not an excuse for remaining stuck."

Everything that I do in life involves making a choice that will serve my needs, including my physical and mental health. All of us need to do that. It's called "maturity."






Smile as you and whomever you share the book with grow insightful and emotionally stronger together. 

Nurture the development of your insights into the gamut of emotions when someone is ill. 

Learn how to calm down and to stay that way longer than before.

The POWER of Pessimism!

Yesterday I made mention of professional pessimism. The phrase happens to be part of a joke that I use from time to time, especially with my coaching clients. I use the words to point out thinking, aka thought process, errors.

Here's an echo of things I've said after I mention "You're quite consistent at pessimism, almost professional. You could give lessons in how to see the down side to things. But it's not what you want to do. I know that because you've asked me how to solve X, Y, or Z..."


Negativity feeds on itself. Then it runs into reality. The results can be emotionally, perhaps physically, painful. As Byron Katie teaches, “When you argue with reality, you lose, but only 100% of the time.”

Here's a thought that might jolt a pessimist out of their convoluted reverie: "Don't try to be a pessimist. It won't always work." (Psst: I tend to point out when life went more easily than my pessimistic client expected, and ask them to explain the phenomenon to me. They sigh or stutter, then look at me in frustration because they realize that their negative expectations were unfounded.)

What does a pessimist say when they see a light at the end of the tunnel? "It's the wrong tunnel." 


You can change the paradigm when you look for the good in any situation. Yes, I'm aware of many horrific situations. And I'm aware of survivors who succeeded in overcoming them by being purposely positive and focused on an ever-better future. 

When you choose to think positively, people come forward with solutions, kindness and friendship. So does the entire universe! Why? Because your positive point of view is appealing. You welcome life instead of rejecting it and the solutions that you need.

Watch what happens to you over time when you focus on upbeat ideas. The payoff is priceless.

Fill Your Heart with Wholesome Perspective

Have you followed the news in Israel lately? Neighbors and I have been dodging Molotov kites loaded with incendiary devices that have been setting Israeli's agricultural fields afire, machine gun fire, missiles, hand-to-hand combat and/or stabbings as we try to go about our benign daily business. It hasn't been easy in the face of all that hatred.

Did you hear about the wedding disrupted by sirens that warned party goers and everyone in the vicinity to reach a bomb shelter in less than a minute, or of the effort to breach Israel's naval blockade which protects Jewish lives? 

The commotion was all because of the efforts to separate Jews from the land that GOD gave to us, and to annihilate us. Again.

Jewish history is full of the phenomena. Mainstream media tends to overlook that, plus the fact that Jews have been routed from our homeland many times. 

All we want to do is to live according to Jewish law, to mind our business, and to help the world at large. 


Some people perceive that as criminal behavior.
as evidenced in their slanted reporting.

People sometimes wonder how Jews survive the onslaught of hatred. The answer, of course, is in our sense of purpose. 

GOD commanded to be a nation like no other, to serve as a light, a shining example of moral behavior and choices based on GOD's agenda for the world: Kindness, decency, and sharing. Our two holy temples, which radiated heavenly blessings upon the wider world, were destroyed by foreigners who resented the "intrusion" of holiness, i.e., restraint from vicious personal agendas, into their lives.

Jews have remained focused on the goal of being good, moral people according to GOD's rules, even as we hardly know how to overcome the visceral hatred for our existence and mandate.

Last week, I joined friends for a trip to the holy city of Jerusalem, a healing experience for the soul and a treat for the body. We enjoyed the thrilling view of the restored Hurva synagogue




as we headed to the Plugat HaKotel museum.

We reached our destination, and experienced a movie about a bit of Jewish history that none of us had known: The heroism of a specific Betar Youth member who defied the Jew-hating enforcers of the British Mandate. A young man with little experience in life let alone warfare, he was one of the people who escorted Jews to the Western/Wailing Wall for time with the Creator when protecting lives from muslim murderers was illegal.

The young man accepted a new assignment, to blow shofar at the Kotel (Western/Wailing Wall) following the end of Yom Kipur services. The act of sounding the instrument of Jewish spiritual freedom was a defiance of British Mandate law, and the fulfillment of Jewish law which requires the use of a shofar at such a time. It's purpose is to make a Jew remember, and thrill, to the sense of purpose bestowed upon us by Heaven. The three distinct sounds made upon a shofar (made during Rosh HaShana/Jewish new year and Yom Kipur/Day of Atonement) remind us of the pain, weeping and suffering we've experienced during Jewish history, and the exultant cries of joy when we know that we've lived up to our heavenly mandate to be holy.

I won't ruin the movie for you by revealing how it ends, but I will let you know that I left the theater unable to speak. 



I was crying at the joy of overcoming capricious hatred, the courage that an individual can muster up in one defining moment, the necessity to do so, and the overall tug of life.





How we perceive the circumstances of our lives is a matter of perspective, whether the problem is politics, health or something else.

A positive mindset is critical for anyone's health.

I completely appreciate the frustration, pain and efforts that anyone must invest in developing that attitude as life hits us with an onslaught of problems and unexpected complications. 

No, I'm not in some ivory tower. I have felt problems and unexpected complications, even heartache, too. I made firm, repeated decisions to overcome them. According to the people around me, that focus seems to have paid off.

How to Gain Mental/Emotional Strength Just Because YOU Want to!

The skies and soil of Israel are filled with blessed rains. Somehow, rainy days let me ponder heartwarming thoughts better than on clear days.

When a person needs to change the way they respond to setbacks or unhappiness, so that they can go forward, they need to pretend that they are feeling more positively than they do feel.

Repeated practice lets a person gain insight into the emotions and insights of purposely positive behavior.

Eventually those upbeat ideas become part of their thinking process.



Go ahead, earn some Oscars. Act as if you're the person you want to meet. Be heroic, kind, patient. Do that until the traits become your automatic responses to stress.
