A Special Holiday Message to My Sponsor

B'SD

21 Tishrei 5771

Today is the Hoshana Raba portion of the Sukot holiday. I have a custom to make a ceremonial meal, in which I address the miracles of my life, on this date in the Jewish calendar.

Though I've never shared anything this personal on the blog before, here are some excerpts of the live presentation I plan to make later today:

The Creation narrative says "In the beginning the Almighty created…" to teach us that He only created the beginning. The remainder is left to us. — Rebbe Leibele Eiger of Lublin

A famous public figure, embittered by his lack of health, is fighting to mislead the world into dismissing the reality that HaShem (GOD) exists. He fights HaShem with every intellectual brain cell he has! He wants a cuddly toy bear of a god that gives fun presents such as excellent health, not the "Work Hard to Gain Insights" Reality which demands that we grow spiritually. He's not alone...

... The Leshem (a famous philosophical commentator on Judaism) teaches all this: the people who refuse to recognize kedusha (holiness) will be forced to repeat the "time and eternal lessons loop" that modern-day Gerald Schroeder teaches about.

Geula (global salvation) will come sooner once humanity openly realizes that HaShem is THE ONLY REALITY. Failure to admit this reality to oneself or to the world increases despair...

"Following the takeover of the boat 'Irene,' which carried Jewish left-wing activists who wanted to reach Gaza, Major-General (ret.) Yigal Pressler said that the navy may have saved the activists from a dire fate. Pressler, a former adviser on counter-terrorism to Prime Ministers Yitzchak Shamir, Shimon Peres, Yitzchak Rabin and Binyamin Netanyahu, said that the Gaza flotillas primarily endanger the activists themselves. "Gaza is enemy country. People who go there are putting their lives at risk and the leftists are also in danger. They could get abducted."
http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/139816

That protective anenei hakavod skhakh (the greenry atop suka booths - it represents the Clouds of Glory that protected Jews in the desert for 40 years) is something else, don’t you think?

A double catastrophe was prevented by Heaven: war and the gruesome kidnappings of our very enemies within...

...
My seudat hodaa (meal of thanks to GOD) today is an annual Hoshana Raba event to commemorate HaShem's restoration of my sight. I had been struck blind by two benign meningioma brain tumors in 1988. Surgery saved my life but not my vision. On Hoshana raba that year, my friend Rabbi Yitzy Erps beat hoshanot (myrtle leaves), the image of eyes, with a plea: "Av HaRakhamim (GOD of Compasssion) give Yocheved her Sight!!!!!" I began looking at the world in full color and better perspective within the hour.

[a few years later] I suffered through the news of a new meningioma. It was eradicated... In 2003 ... another meningioma growing atop and strangling my brainstem among other sensitive body parts [left me] at risk of losing heartbeat, let alone my abilities to move about, see, hear and swallow. I learned of the awful truth in an emergency room ... after waking up blind one morning. Emergency surgery once again saved my life but not my sight. Doctors said I was doomed to remain blind forever.

You know me by know and how I responded to the situation. I delved into the meaning of it all... I wept, screamed, duked it out in arguments with rabbis and friends and took on an organic lifestyle to heal my severely damaged optic nerves.

Shock of shocks, my vision has improved so much in five years that vision experts believe the day will come that I'll see fine without glasses. And I've gained a type of vision I never quite realized was developing: I needed to recognize my only duty. It is to the One Above, the Source of Love Who made me a millionaire with priceless friendships, amazing adventures that leave us breathless to realize them, a woman rich in miracles galore and opportunities I've taken to help other people in distress.

Why have I experienced not one but FIVE brain tumors that impaired my sight, let alone endangered my life? My guess is that it was an invitation from HaShem to see more than superficiality. I learned over time whom and what to value for eternity, and found expression of Divine love in the affection which friends held for me. HaShem spoke to me through my life. My heart, intellect and eyes looked to Him for life and comprehension. I sang tehilim (psalms) and other tefilot (prayers) at the top of my lungs when possible.

"Shiru Lo, zamru Lo, Sikhu bekhol nifla'osav"
שירו לו, זמרו לו, סיכו בכל נפלאותו
Sing to Him, make music for Him, speak of all His wonders. Psalm 105

The destruction itself is the construction - סתירת זקנים בנין.
The redemption sprouts from the destruction.
– A lesson for all time
from Rebbe Akiva
viewing the ruins of the Holy of Holies

I've been through astonishing difficulties (most of them not specified today) so that I could grow as a spiritual being in a paradoxically human form and gain insight into how to help other people.

Please consider my life and all the efforts I’ve made as a song to You.

To the precious friends in my life, who helped me to reach the future: From Hallel and Tehilim 118:17, “I shall not die, but will declare the works of HaShem.”

Lo amut ki ekhyeh, va’asper ma’asei HaShem.
לא אמות כי אחיה ואספר מעשי ה

Thank you Abba. I love you.

Yocheved

BedBug Solutions!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

B'SD

14 Tishrei 5771

The USA is freaking out over bedbugs in hospitals, movie theaters, airplanes, etc. It's becoming a global problem as the bugs get free rides & airfare. Now they're traveling to far-off places.

I'm not a pest control expert but I offer some home remedies that might improve matters:

1. Brush organic rosemary oil in everybody's hair before bedtime. Drip some onto personal hairbrushes before hairbrush use. Keep each brush in separate sealed plastic bags (ziploc style) when not in use. Bugs detest rosemary oil smell.

2. Get cheapo incense burners.
Burn organic citronella oil 24/7 in every room. Bugs hate the smell and leave from all available exits or die trying.

3. Consider buying new mattresses. You might need to lose infected mattresses because they're hard to debug.

4. Avon's SkinsoSoft lotion keeps bugs off skin so shmear it on after every bath/shower!!!!!!

5. Plant potted marigolds on windowsills and inside every room. Bugs avoid marigolds BIGTIME.

6. Empty and vacuum out all drawers/closets & fabric items (check the pockets!). Dispose of the used vacuum bag right away (seal them in plastic bags before walking outdoors with them).

7. Spray anything (air deodorizer, hair spray, cooking oil, oven cleaner even) at bugs and on infected surfaces. SUFFOCATE them.

8. Careful of the kids with this one: Dump boiling water on the bedbugs if you see them on marble or ceramic surfaces.

See this US NEWS & World Report item: You're NOT Alone.

GOOD LUCK!

The chapters address spiritual, emotional, and painful physical issues, then illustrate reader-friendly solutions for them.

Here are praises for the
August 2009 release:

"I received EMPOWER Yourself to Cope with a Medical Challenge one week after I suffered my own medical crisis and found it very helpful. [It] will be of great benefit both in dealing with the fragile emotional health of sick patients and the stressful situation of the patient's caregiver… [with] very practical comprehensive information for dealing with a health-related crisis that is so seldom available to someone who is ill and preoccupied with their own troubles. Ill people are often compromised and often don't know where to look for guidance. Putting so much useful information at their fingertips will help them navigate the difficulties of a confusing medical system. Combined with [the author's] encouragement to never give up hope, the book will be of great aid to anyone with a sudden serious medical emergency." - Daniel Eisenberg, MD, Department of Radiology at the Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia, PA; Assistant Professor of Diagnostic Imaging at Thomas Jefferson University School of Medicine; Medical Ethicist

What a wonderful book! I am awed... In
It's My Crisis! And I'll Cry if I Need To: A Life Book that Helps You to Dry Your Tears and to Cope with a Medical Challenge , Golani challenges and energizes us all to partner with GD to seek and savor life to the fullest for both our mental and physical health. "What an incredible wealth of information: spiritual, philosophical, psychological, medical, etc! The book is filled with sound ideas and sage advice. I recommend it to everyone!" – R. Danny Myers, Ramat Bet Shemesh, Israel

"Yocheved Golani's guide issues a powerful 'can-do' message to those most in need of it. She shows the reader that one 'can;' that even one facing the most grievous of challenges has options and possibilities. A person facing a serious medical threat needs to believe that he or she can, that positivity and determination make a difference. But Golani also sets out a compelling argument for the 'do'. Take action, help yourself, get help from others, strategise, maximise whatever you've got. Do whatever needs to be done to get well and overcome your illness, even when you don't feel like it. It could save your life. It could save the life of your loved one. It is this combination of the can-positive attitude and the do-positive action that makes this guide so useful and complete. Its lessons extend far beyond the medical sphere to life challenges whatever they may be. They are lessons we can't afford to ignore. Good on you, Yocheved!" – Life Coach Y. Ives, England

"Being faced with a serious health challenge is like being in a dungeon. When light comes in one feels new hope and immense gratitude. This book was designed with great compassion by someone who had been in such a dungeon. She knows how any gesture of compassion can be lifesaving. Honor this book as something filled with treasures of knowledge, information and approaches that can be invaluable to anyone going through a medical crisis, even you. This book is a blessing. It can help many people to cope with their medical problems, filling them with hope..." - Lilliane Ritchie, Refuah Institute Professional Counselor Training Instructor

"This book is good. I added it to our recommended book list." - Al Musella, DPM Founder and Director The Musella Foundation for Brain Tumor Research & Information

When readers and personal acquaintances ask me how I can know so much about different topics, especially health topics, I respond,

"The key to comedy is a great journalistic tool for me. I survey the scene and ask myself 'What's wrong with this picture?'"

That line of thought lets me be objective about stressful situations. With my head cleared of worry, I can focus on finding solutions.

How to Calm Down in a Way that Works for YOU

B'SD

27 Elul 5770

The Jewish year ends this Wednesday, and the non-Jewish year ends in December. Holiday season is upon us. Tensions are rising with tempers, tears and fears. Medical problems add to the stress.

Want to calm down in a way that works for you?

One way to cope with the distress of illness and all its complications is to simply admit what's bothering you.

Ask loved ones, friends and/or medical professionals in your life to listen to you, to share some back-and-forth feedback and reflection.

It's not a silly, time-wasting exercise. Why? Because it brings your voice and concerns into the overall picture. Two-way communication is progress. Your needs can be met once people know of them.

Tell the people important to you what you're afraid of: Things that might fail and things that might work, things that scare you or hurt you, and things that sadden and/or confuse you.

It's okay to be concerned/
scared/worried/sad
fill in the blank as you wish.

You're normal.

Let the wider world know what's on your mind. Speak in a cultured, patient manner. If tears overtake you, let them fall. They're a communication tool.

Give a voice to things you fear could happen, things that could have a negative affect on your life: altered appearance, chronic pain, loss of abilities, and so on. List the things that you're afraid might work and change your life in significant ways. That's a whole other kind of fear.

lets you examine your concerns and shows you how to ease them, even how to find soltutions when possible. Buy
