With Blessings and Prayers for Genuine Peace

B'SD

14 Nisan, 5777

I look forward to the multi-faceted freedom messages in the holiday of Passover.

My home has been 100% kosher for Passover since Thursday. I like to spend time studying before seder night, and feeling rested/joyful then.
Wishing the world personal fulfillment, genuine peace and inner contentment.

Yocheved Golani "Fascinated by the exquisite attention people devote to getting hilkhot Pesach (the laws of Passover) right. I find myself wondering: what if we took our obligations towards other people and their dignity just as or even more seriously? What if we found the idea of hurting or embarrassing another human being as intolerable and unbearable as we find the thought of a crumb of leaven remaining in our homes? A glimpse of what religion could be, should be, must be." -- Rabbi Shai Held, co-founder of New York's Mechon Hadar

Yocheved Golani The segula that Rabbanit Yemima recommends for biyur chametz: Fill out a paper with the list of things you want to get rid of. Add it to the bag of chametz and watch those problems burn away in the morning. (PS - I added "The lack of Mashiakh")

Exciting News!

B'SD

13 Nisan, 5777

While I'm enjoying the freshness and fun of my fully functional Passover/Pesakh Mode kitchen, I'm taking time to respond to editors seeking my input for future online and print articles.

I have exciting book reviews coming up and I'll be responding to Questions for Life Coaches. You can be sure that I'll share relevant publication news with you. Who knows? You might come across something that suits you, too!

No matter which holiday you celebrate this season, spend time thinking over the significance of spirituality. It's purpose is to make us more compassionate, more willing to share our resources, and more resilient when we face hardships. Spirituality practiced correctly helps us to rise above our limitations. We can become wonderful, accomplished, insightful, nicer than we have been.

My frequently used tool for helping someone is the Enneagram, a method for understanding the quirks of human personalities and the tools for working with them in productive ways.

Here's a bit of insight on how I help people to deal with unhappiness, disappointment, pain and life in general:

I had an amusing conversation with a therapist who asked me to help her to write a thesis about the wisdom of using the Enneagram. I replied "But I can do that in one sentence: You will learn that a person's characteristics are 'givens,' not a matter of good or bad, just 'givens' that can be dealt with in specific ways." After she gulped, I added "I am not advocating that personality, thought or mood disorders are acceptable. They are exceptions to the rule."

Certified in counseling skills and in spiritual chaplaincy (the ability to discuss end-of-life issues), I write for a mental health site at http://www.e-counseling.com/

I'm a life coach for ill people, helping them to identify the goals they need to reach, then to prepare a plan for achieving those goals.

A former medical coder/Health Information Management professional, I'm well-versed in the medical world's ins and outs, acquainted with astonishing people and cutting-edge treatments.

Certified in Counseling Skills, and one of the first certified EMETT leaders (I no longer lead EMETT groups), I have studied psychology throughout my adult life.

Medical and mental health professionals have endorsed the EMPOWER Yourself book on and off the covers.

I maintain a database of ever-updated medical information to help people to connect with the medical professionals and medical care, appliances, medication, etc. that they need. I even clue people in on cost-cutting programs that pay all or some of their specific medical bills. The book's Global Resources section holds much of that information.

Spring Break Update

B'SD

20 Nisan 5775

I'm on vacation during Passover and delighted to have met fans of this blog who hail from different parts of the world. It's an experience to discuss the posts in different languages, to find out which one a specific person valued and another reader preferred. I've been fascinated by the conversations several times in the past week or so.

Overall, it seems that most of you enjoy the humor invested into the messages I share and almost ALL of you appreciated the non-allergenic cleaning tips.

I was surprised to listen to several people who've bought the EMPOWER Yourself to Cope with a Medical Challenge book but failed to read it cover-to-cover. I immediately cited the page numbers or chapters that specifically address their concerns. Then I enjoyed the profuse "Thank you's" I eventually received as people contacted me to relate the problem-solving that followed our interaction.

EMPOWER Yourself with
information you need.
Use it well.

OK, back to simple vacation time: I'm charging up my emotional and content provider batteries as I share time with old and new friends in real life, enjoy cultural pursuits and simply let myself "be."

I might post photos after Pesakh/Passover is over. I find it hard to do on the road as my schedule is a bit unpredictable.

Let's enjoy the rest of spring break together. All I ask are two favors: Be nice. And drop me a line about the posts you enjoy. Let me know why you liked a specific message and what you'd like to read more of.

Physics, Fun and Fighting Off Negativity

B'SD

6 Nisan, 5775

I've been rather bummed out today, as you can tell from my recent Facebook message

I want a break from cyberlife cuz I keep learning of downright nasty stuff in the news. So, I'll sign off for a bit with the most moving Star Trek episode I can remember. May it promote decency worldwide. Grab the tissues, hug the dog, the kids, your spouse, and grab some more tissues. Everybody's gonna need them. • Yocheved Golani BTW Israelis, we'll have an hour less to wipe our tears as of tonight. We move to that goshdarnit Daylight Savings Time at 2AM, making it 3AM. So when you fall out of bed Friday morning, you'll be justifiably sleepy, having lost an hour there. Nap today and brace for impact.

So now that you've grown to be a better person for watching that long video, let's share fast-paced Get Ready for Pesakh fun with students of Israel's Technion Institute. Who says physics can't be fun?
