Make Music Your Medical Soundtrak!

B'SD

2 Elul, 5777

I'd meant to share a message with you, yesterday, but I was caught up in helping several other people to meet their medical needs in various ways (paperwork, conversation about healing modalities,  and my journalistic efforts at www.e-counseling.com).

Then I took some time to enjoy an evening musical concert with friends, in the lovely outdoor setting adjacent to a local nursing home/assisted living facility. I was very amused to see people who'd been sitting as still as statues suddenly begin to sway, rock to various beats, or even get up and dance!

Music is healing in many ways.

I'm aware of many philosophical, scientific and spiritual insights in to the healing, soothing power of music. Indulge in it.

Listen to music that soothes you. Let your emotional and physical pains lessen as you adjust the soundtrak to your medical life. Make it work on your behalf.

You can read these nutritious updates while you relax. They can help your healing and coping efforts, too.

The Blessings in the Universe

B'SD

11 Iyar, 5776

Last night I addressed the Whole Health Forum audience as one of several people presenting a panel discussion about healing.

My opening remarks appear below. I was gratified that they were well-received and delighted to learn that some listeners have read

In 2005 I was diagnosed with a benign, skull-based tumor that blinded and almost killed me. GOD, the surgeon, my friends and specific alternative healing strategies helped me to see again. We made medical history. Life lessons were involved. So was my sense of humor.

I wrote this book because I wanted to do people a favor by alerting them to healing possibilities and cutting-edge medical developments, sharing spiritual insights, and letting readers know of world wide organizations willing to pay part or all of your specific medical expenses. EMPOWER Yourself to Cope with a Medical Challenge shares many ideas, one of which can be explained this way:

Viktor Frankl said "When we are no longer able to change a situation we are challenged to change ourselves." I'd like to add, "When you’re going through hell, look for the exit. Or create one."

All of us are here to heal. It might be physically, emotionally, mentally and/or spiritually. As you move through the throngs of people and exhibits, you feel an energy coursing through and around you. Use it. Memorize it. Cradle it. That energy can motivate you when you're feeling drained, clueless, and hopeless long after the event.

As we move through our healing experiences, we grow in insights, compassion for ourselves and others. We recognize the need for developing a support network of friends, relatives, acquaintances, plus medical and complementary healing practitioners.  We learn not to assume, but to observe, to wonder, to be in awe. Respect, on many different levels, becomes one with our identities. The universe is filled with answers. It beckons us, challenges us to grow, even as we hardly realize that we are growing during our agony. That is Av HaRakhamim, the Compassionate GOD, Rofeh Cholim, the Healer, at work.

Accept the invitation. Fulfill your destiny as a spiritual creature. Let wonder fill your soul. Let the wonder heal you. The adventure is a gift from GOD, though it sometimes feels like a punishment. It's not. It is a path. Humanity tends to berate itself. But HaShem's nature, so to speak, is to forgive. Take Her/His lead. Go, find yourself in the universe, with every bit of your pain, doubt and fear. Access the healing powers that GOD put there. The goal is to grow your soul. Open your eyes, your mind, your gut and your heart to healing possibilities. Learn to laugh again. Find the love that awaits you. GOD put it there.

Other speakers on the panel then presented their stories. One is a board-certified surgeon who'd cured himself of Rheumatoid Arthritis with a macrobiotic diet.

He decried the limited worldview of his western medicine colleagues who denied that connection of food to health.

He briefly described actual vignettes of how doctors deny, ridicule or ignore documented evidence of healing fostered with vegan, vegetarian or macrobiotic diets, plus evidence that organic food promotes health better than adulterated non-organic food.

The saddest story was about a patient who'd recovered from agonizingly painful and debilitating Crohn's Disease with a macrobiotic diet. Her gastroenterologist insulted her intelligence by insisting that food has no impact on the digestive system, that it was the medicine he'd prescribed which had cured her. He did not reply when the woman laid out her unused medication before him.

Food is irrelevant to health. Such a stance is no better than believing that the sun does not cause sunshine.

Other panelists chimed in with proof that adulterated food filled with herbicides, pesticides, preservatives, and other noxious chemicals undermine human health, and that their own deadly types of cancer abated due to improved diets.

I remarked that when I asked the director of a cutting-edge cancer treatment center why his facility is being built, he responded that "Cancer rates are growing. Lifestyles are responsible for that." I responded with a request that he save lives and money by making Public Service Announcements. He could tell the public that synthetic hygiene products, excessive sun exposure, adulterated food stripped of nutrition but filled with poison and other avoidable causes of cancer be eliminated from public consumption.

He gave me a demeaning look as if to say "You sweet dumb idiot." Then he said, "The public will never understand or accept that."

I disagree.

Do you need to be told that you'll sicken and probably die if you eat rat poison? Raw sewage? Spoiled meat?

The group also discussed the medical world's tendency to withhold information from patients, believing that it's merciful to refrain from informing people that they might die or are dying and that it is "only" appropriate to share such news closer to the prognosticated date of death, when symptoms can no longer be denied. THAT is a demeaning point of view. It robs people of the opportunity to handle their own affairs, to save their own lives or at least try to.

Worse, it is a lofty excuse for pulling off a crime. If doctors cannot deal with the emotional ramifications of dealing with sad, frightened patients, then medical schools ought to teach necessary lessons. And arrogant practitioners should leave the "healing" profession that they undermine.

I pray that knowledgeable people will hold Getting to Know You events that foster educational interactions with medical professionals, alternative/complementary healing professionals and survivors who ended their agony by changing their eating patterns and other lifestyle factors, and went on to live more pleasant, productive lives for the effort.

Change usually comes slowly, hence a need to make and to expect gradual changes. But...

... as death rates rise from the poisoned food supply, a need to alert the public that eating just might be a suicidal activity becomes imperative.

May blessings come your way.

Thrombocytopenia and Mabthera Treatment: Seeking the Public's Help

B'SD

9 Elul, 5775

Readers, I ask your indulgence, for your patience and compassion. This post was delayed in going "live" until I had the patient's permission to post it.

You are invited to respond to the message below with relevant information. It is desperately needed:

An acquaintance is suffering a highly
unusual form of thrombocytopenia,
cause undetermined.
His platelets flutter between
frighteningly low numbers 0-10.
His medical team is desperate
to figure out how to save him.

He's being referred for alternative
Mabthera treatment for ITP.

He asked me to prepare an
alternative healing menu
for him.
I prepare foods with a history of
healing ill people.

What I ask of you is to
let me know of
cutting-edge therapies
for curing or arresting ITP.

I shared a message with friends, some of whom are medical professionals, a short time ago:

whew. I'm back from visiting the man in the hospital and I'd spent the morning cooking up a macrobiotic healing storm: Stir-fry kale, onion, garlic, carrot with Kuzu, sesame oil and rice vinegar, a container of fresh no-bake peach-chia pie with almond crust, fruit salad with mango, grapes and peaches diced to perfection, a YUM nutmilk with figs, silan, chocolate beans, ginger, coconut and cashews. Nurses and social worker were delighted to watch him eat with gusto. I burst out laughing when someone asked me "And all this vegetarian food is kosher?"

It's a relief to know that he can enjoy food. Pleasure is important, and it can be healing. The man's medical team does not know how to help him. A possible course of Mabthera therapy might be pursued. He asked me to study facts about it.

I am determined to learn as much as I can about Mabthera, more than online resources indicate.

I also want to find out about ultraviolet blood irradiation with ozone. I understand that such therapy is available in Tel Aviv. I need relevant contact information that the patient can use.

If you have any valid information to share with me, please do so via giveretgolani @ gmail .com (remove the spaces when you use that email address).

And yes, the man is the middle of reading his personal copy of EMPOWER Yourself to Cope with a Medical Challenge

Preparing NOT to Pack on the Pounds 1-2-3!

B'SD

2 Adar 1, 5771

Ever wish you had more time to cope with life? Good news: YOU DO!

Notice the unusual date on today's blogpost: The Jewish month is literally Adar 1 as this is a Jewish leap year with an Adar 2 coming up next month!

Adar is a time of special joy when Persia's (and much of the known world's) Jews were spared mass annihilation by a crooked government minister (sounds familiar, huh?) who'd been guilty of headline-worthy crimes.

Jews around the world celebrate the miracle with a holiday called
Purim. It calls for costumes, the retelling of the Purim story (the whole megilla!) and much silliness (plus a serious sense of marvel at the miraculous end of Iraq's Israel-aimed Scud Missile War).

At any rate, lots of hi-calorie foods are shared in packaged gifts, then served at celebratory meals later in the Purim-fest day. But diners usually regret having packed on the calories despite the good-natured fun.

Here's a HEADS UP:

YOU (and everyone else in the world) have time - an extra month - to prepare better menus for Purim and any occasion. Start today, and search out delicious recipes which maximize nutrition, not calorie counts. Purchase necessary ingredients now so you can cook with ease long before the March 19/20 2011 party.

Avoid the nuisance of a boring, guilt-tripping

and health problems easy to avoid.

A Retrocure for Autoimmune Disease or One BIG Mistake?

B'SD

5 Cheshvan 5771

You can heal with wholesome food, pure water, exercise and prayers, or...

Make one BIG mistake.

I was taken aback to read news item http://www.foxnews.com/health/2010/10/04/parasitic-worms-cure-autoimmune-diseases/?test=faces and noticed that the Crohn's sufferer quoted in there mentions going organic at the end of the article.

I asked naturopath Shoshanna Harrari (listed in the Global Resources section of EMPOWER Yourself) about the alleged wisdom of helminthic/worm therapy.

She replied: "They used to recommend tapeworms for weight loss not so long ago as well. It is not difficult to have a healthy intestine and heal from Crohn’s by just eating right. I guess this is one therapy this guy never came across.

"Hookworms drink large amounts of blood
making people anemic and malnourished. Each worm can produce up to 30,000 eggs a day. They are the only worms with actual teeth. A person infected with them eventually becomes anemic, malnourished, mentally slow and weak. They will eventually have abdominal pains, possibly with nausea, indigestion and chronic diarrhea. Chances are he will be very regretful of this ‘treatment’ in the next year or so. It is very difficult to get rid of them once infected, and the Crohn’s he had will look like a picnic."

Readers, you just don't want
that stuff
in your gut or anywhere
in your bodies.

Yes, worms do migrate
to human brains.

Technology explains the
reality when you click on

One Simple Recipe for Better Health!

B'SD

8 Kislev 5770

Sprout this: People who see me live often ask for tips on how they can mimic my health-promoting habits. "Make it easy, something I can really do," they insist. " I want a healthy glow like yours!"

Here's what I tell them: One of my fast-food meals goes like this:

I buy seeds in health food shops.

I place some seeds in clean glass jars kept for this purpose, covering them with scrap cotton cloth held in place with a rubber band.

I soak the seeds in filtered water overnight.

I pour out the water into decorative plants the next morning ;^) Wait'll you see what that does for pretty blooms!

I place the jars of damp seeds at air-flow enabling angles in a cardboard box.

I cover the jars with a magazine or large envelope.

I rinse the seeds twice daily.

After repeating this process a few days,
I end up with highly nutritious,
crunchy, delicious salads!

Toss in chopped fresh tomatoes, onions, pressed garlic cloves, sea salt and the dollop of olive oil you soaked it in last night, caraway seeds fresh cranberries, raisins and/or nuts and WOW you'll dine on pure life-giving nutrition for low cost and minimal effort as I do.

My food bills are far, far lower than yours and my food-preparation efforts are minimal. My health is making doctors thing twice!

Get your adzuki bean, broccoli, mung bean, lentil, chick pea, pumpkin and other sprouty options going, then fill up on the amino acids, calcium, iron, lecithin, minerals, phosphorous, protein, Vitamins B, C, E, and other good stuff you grow on your own.

Practice until you get the sprouting right. Clean the jars after every use! Wash the cotton tops from time to time. They'll discolor from stains but that's not of concern.

10 Things the Food Industry Doesn't Want YOU to Know!

B'SD

24 Tishrei 5769 (part 2)

You've read my book (or will soon ;^ )

You know that I'm an organic raw foods vegetarian (I only eat cooked items for holidays and other special occasions).

You know that the organic fruits and vegetables saved my once-dwindling life. AND they're restoring my optic nerves and muscles, damaged by my former brain tumor and the 2005 surgery to remove it so I could remain alive. Vision specialists once believed that my eyes were so damaged that I would lose my sight before 2006. I am not blind as they expected me to be. My eyewear prescription has been lowered 10 times in 3 years!

Commit Focused Acts of Kindness

B'SD

13 Av 5768

One of my friends asked me to share the following thought with you because she and other people feel inspired when I share it aloud every so often: I'm healing because I'm doing good things for myself.

Yes, I've become an organic foods diner. Yes I work out increasingly harder as my body permits. Yes I receive Cranio Sacral Therapy.
Yes I do EFT work. Yes I practice what I preach in terms of good mental health. Yes I pray incessantly. Yes I reach for friends and YES I do favors for them, too. And I work at smiling all day long. It cheers up whomever sees me grinning, and I feel better for it, too.

And NO, I cannot pin down my healing/coping successes on one particular strategy. ALL my strategies work as One BIG Strategy combined!

Unlike that once-popular slogan asking people to "Commit Random Acts of Kindness," I practice Focused Acts of Kindness: On myself, and on others.

Randomness is not a virtue. Focus is a virtue and it pays worthwhile dividends. Aim your mind at your medical challenges and practice coming up with solutions to them. Consider how you can ease the pressure on those around you, especially on the people caring for you in many different ways.

There's a reason that I'm welcome whenever I visit with friends or run into them by chance. People know that I'm aiming for better than my present situation and/or theirs. And I constantly try to put everyone concerned at ease.

Opera singer Beverly Sills once explained to a reporter she retained her beautiful smile despite many hardships in her life, "I have a cheerfulness habit. Even if I don't feel happy inside, I can behave pleasantly on the outside."

Imagine how well that attitude served her as life dished out its hardships. The same attitude can do wonders for you, too.

I heard Miss Sills say the above on radio, when I was a girl. It launched my lifelong drive to remain pleasant no matter what I have to face. And I've faced lots of hardship with my medical history.

So do you.

Mimic me and many of the tricks of the cheerfulness trade that I've learned over time. Read my book and learn all about them. Some tips will make you shake with laughter, others will prompt you to sit quietly and contemplate a bit of profound wisdom. The quotes in my book cover centuries' worth of good attitudes from diverse public figures.

I might just include some of the marvelously intelligent remarks by recently deceased Professor Randy Pausch in my next book (in progress for months). CLICK HERE
for a focused look at his life.
