Sweet Regards to Shirley

B'SD

11 Adar 1, 5774*

Shirley Temple Black was one of the role models in my life. Her forthright courage in speaking of her bout with breast cancer, and in beseeching the public to mind their preventative health needs, improved public life.

I am sorry to pay her merely posthumous tribute. I've resolved to salute other healthcare role models, heroes and heroines, while they're alive to enjoy the accolades.

I'm sure that sweet regards surround Shirley in heaven.

Wondering how to feel heroic about your own medical needs, or someone else's? Buy the E-book or print edition of something that medical and mental health professionals recommend: EMPOWER Yourself to Cope with a Medical Challenge

(*Psst - the Jewish month of Adar comes twice this year, keeping the lunar and solar calendars aligned so that agriculture and holidays can proceed sensibly. Yes, we really call this The FIRST month of Adar. In a month's time we'll have Adar II).

Greatness is How You Choose to Respond

B'SD

29 Kislev, 5773

Thanks to the United with Israel and Thank Israeli Soldiers organizations, I spent time sharing Hanuka donuts with Israeli soldiers last night, near the Gaza border.

Many Israeli civilians joined in the fun of saluting the heroes who protect our lives.

People in the crowd discussed heroism, what it is, and how to be a hero. A couple seated near me mentioned a serious medical matter to me after realizing I'm the author of

We’re open to all do-gooders, impressive doing-their-jobbers, role models, innovators, scientists, book authors and activists. Several nominations went out because of my books and coaching (I've spoken and coached in the USA during my travels). Look at one of the results that were forwarded to me!

Dear Ms. Goyanes:

Re: your call for nominees for an article about outstanding Americans who have contributed to the nation's health, I nominate virtual unknown Yocheved Golani, an amazing woman whom I have known since our elementary school days in Oak Park, Michigan. She was afflicted with multiple brain tumors and threatened blindness, but endured and triumphed over her illness with incredible positive good humor and optimism.

Spurred by her personal experience, Yocheved wrote a book to help others cope with medical set backs. "It's MY Crisis And I'll Cry If I Need To: EMPOWER Yourself to Cope with a Medical Challenge" is a handbook, rich in advice, exercises, and resources to help patients navigate the medical system and maintain their physical and psychological strength during their illness in a pro-active, upbeat manner.

Yocheved would be a great candidate for your feature article, and I thank you for your consideration.

Best Wishes,
Susan Tawil

PS--You can Google "Yocheved Golani" and it will link you to her web site and info about her book.

Find Your Inner Hero: The Hero Within

B'SD

1 Shvat 5769

Ladies, this post is for you, too. Find your inner heroines as the guys find their inner heroes.

As we go through our medical crises, willingly or unwillingly, we might marvel at the inner strengths and capabilities we'd never known we had until the moment of truth.

My book and Self-Help Coaching work are, in part, based on helping you to realize the heroism you may have failed to notice in yourself. And partly based on helping you to become heroic to the best of your abilities.

One of the people who gave a hearty recommendation to my book did so because he benefited from it. Renowned writer, teacher and phenomenal person, Dr. Rahamim Melamed-Cohen is that captivating man. Get some insight into the depth of his character, and how much a person can grow by facing a medical crisis head-on. Click on a brief look at his life,
The Hero Within.

I hope that now you'll appreciate the words he wrote for the back cover of my book:

"It's MY Crisis And I'll Cry If I Need To"
is very interesting and useful.
It can help people with emotional difficulties.

I have ALS disease, and
I found much of Yocheved's advice useful.

I recommend that everyone,
including healthy people,
read this book in order to increase
the quality of their lives."

Find out why Dr. Melamed-Cohen gave such a high recommendation to my Life Book that Helps You to Dry Your Tears and to Cope with a Medical Challenge as you read it yourself.
