Staying Grounded and Joyous Despite Inner or Outer Pain

B'SD

11 Tamuz, 5775

One of the things I advocate for well-rounded emotions is having a hobby. I enjoy several, and thought to let you have a look at some of my dried flower arrangements

 and candelabra plate

creations.

Care to guess which hobby I longed to resume though 2005 brain surgery had resulted in my surgically broken jaw (and my need to learn how to speak, all over again)?

There's a reason that I whistle as I walk. I've needed to strengthen my damaged emboucher (the relevant muscles of my face and lips) so that I can resume flute-playing.

As of this past April, I've been able to get sweet sounds from my flute.

Now that I've recovered from moving across the country, I hope to hire a music instructor so I can play in a pleasant manner. Stay tuned for developments. I'm still thrilling to the fact that my recent singing performance was well-received despite a long time off the community theater stage.

Please share the fun. Let me know what you do to stay grounded and joyous despite inner or outer pain.

How to Have a FUN Time on Your Way to Better Health!

B'SD

24 Nisan 5772

Getting better is boring.
Pages 21-23 address that reality
and how to overcome it in

Fun does not have age limits, as you'll see in this Dancing in Dulles video. Get your boogey on. Sing, dance, indulge in some realistic for you sports, whatever it takes. The trick is to do what appeals to you and lifts your spirits - maybe those of people sharing the fun with you, too. There's plenty of healing power in pleasure.

Want to lose the too-thick middle-aged midriff while you're at it? I have two terrific tips to share with you on this blog. Just ask me for them by leaving a comment below, with your name and photo so I'll sort of know with whom I'm communicating.

Sick of Criticism You Don't Deserve? Here's How to Silence Your Critics!

B'SD

7 Nisan 5772

I rarely blog on Fridays, but I know that they can be the set-up for some truly lousy weekends. Why?

Bigmouths tend to take their best shots for hurting someone's feelings then. Why is a whole 'nuther story.

So I'm blogging today to
improve your chances for a
better today and tomorrow.

Sad about the sickening things people say to or about you? EMPOWER Yourself with this amusing thought:

"I don't care what is
written about me as long
as it isn't true."
Katherine Hepburn

I can't verify that Kate ever said that, but you can adopt the sentiments all the same. Go for the gusto. Live your life with purpose, decency and fun. Let the liars rot in their pickled worldviews. You don't need to.

Let me know if today's post gives you or someone you know emotional pain relief. Some bon mots are just great for emotional and mental health. Guaranteed!

Find more responses you can make to unfair critics in E-book or print edition EMPOWER Yourself to Cope with a Medical Challenge. See page 4 for starters ;^ D

P-P-P-Purim!

B'SD

14 Adar 5772

The 24 hours of Purim day and night have been preceded by children and adults dressed in amusing costumes, singing silly songs and preparing packages of treats to give away.

The Jewish world is listening to Megillat Esther readings that explain the miracles involved with saving the Jews in ancient Persia (a BIG Global Power at the time!).

Catch the Purim Q &As at http://www.ou.org/holidays/C452

Ask your local orthodox rabbi or acquaintances to clue you in to more Purim facts. Have fun. It's good for your emotional and physical health - within reason!

Stocking Stuffer Alert! Hanuka Happiness and Cuddly Kwanzaa Holiday Season Gift Ideas

19 Cheshvan

Buy copies of It's MY Crisis! And I'll Cry if I Need To for the gift-giving Holiday season. It's a great way to say "I love you." And it's a terrific way to be good to yourself.

Places of worship can sell It's MY Crisis! And I'll Cry if I Need To in their gift shops and at special events.

Kwanzaa, Xmas and Hanuka celebrants can benefit from this book. Have a holiday? Read my book and find out how to cope with many emotions: joy, sadness, stress, rising and falling moods.

***

Exhaustion, both physical and mental/emotional, is part of the growth process. When you learned how to ride a scooter or bicycle, how to master calculus or how to win somebody's heart, you sometimes felt pretty drained in the process. Think of inner growth as learning how to shed a former inability and how to attain a new skill or ability.

Comfort comes with the sense of satisfaction you feel when you consider, then realize, what you've achieved.

Why is the inner growth process so tiring? My hunch is that it prevents us from wasting energy on unrealistic or unrewarding goals. Think about it. Remember when you spent way too much time and effort trying to accomplish something, then realized (perhaps too late, perhaps in the nick of time) that you were wasting your energy on the project? It was a valuable life lesson. It pays off because it prevents you from making the same mistake again. Now you're blessed with focus, not derailed by blind ambition. Nor are you playing computer games as time flies by during your health crisis.

Realizing that your medical or emotional crisis is tiring you is not a reason for despair. You can make it into a cause for celebration that will recharge your batteries. You're making progress, doing your work to improve your physical and/or emotional state. That need to nap or to kick up your heels is proof positive that you're heading forward. Be sure, though, that the people who love and respect you agree that you're moving in a good direction. A group consensus is likely to be correct. It's neutral, unaffected by your personal prejudices (which might be misleading your objective assessment effort about the situation).

Truth is the light with which you find your way out of darkness. Turn it on.

– Rebbe Nachman of Breslav

To your emotional and physical relief,a happy and healthy holiday season to one and all,
