Well no wonder you have that headache! (Here's how to STOP it!)

B'SD

21 Sivan, 5777

I enjoyed a long, educational conversation across a few continents last night as I conferenced with some medical and mental health professionals. The conversation came about due to a most unusual observation that I'd made, then asked those professionals about the phenomenon.

Their collective jaws dropped as each conversationalist paused to consider what I'd said.

I have quite an informative article/blogpost regarding EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) coming up. It's a method for ending Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (an astonishing blessing in its own right).

Stand by for updates!

Meanwhile, no wonder you have that headache!

Surfing Past a Heat Wave!

B'SD

10 Av, 5773

I came through yesterday's 9Av fast day without problems, as usual. I was grateful for the blessing of lower temperatures, which made thirst less of an issue.

But WOW I'm doing double-takes at HIGH temperature readings around the world.

Do yourselves, your kids and anyone ill or elderly a favor: Make sure that EVERYBODY drinks lots of liquids such as water

Tea is fine, coffee is not (it makes you urinate more often than if you didn't drink it). Soup is good, too. Cold soup like borscht or cucumber soup would be delightful, delicious and a lifesaver.

Cool down more with sedentary activities such as reading, doing crafts, watching videos or listening to soothing music. You can surf through and way past potential problems that way.

Make triple sure that children and pets are NOT left in hot vehicles or other places.

Heat kills quickly. Heat stroke is no joke.

Let me know what you're doing to stay comfortable.

Buy the E-book or print edition of EMPOWER Yourself to Cope with a Medical Challenge. That can cool your temper instead of sweating through questions such as "What do I do with my medical, mental health or disability issue?" days!

Mood Boosting Strategies that Work!

B'SD

26 Adar 5772

A reporter looking for "Mood boosting Strategies" to round out her article on the topic just received this mesage from me:

"... medical and mental health professionals recommend the mood-boosting messages in It's MY Crisis! And I'll Cry If I Need To: EMPOWER Yourself to Cope with a Medical Challenge. World renown psychiatrist Dr. A. Twerski gives copies to people on chemo and overcoming addictions. He tells me they call him less as the book is so helpful to them. Methodist minister Carl Phillips found the spiritual content 'Right on!'  Rabbis approve of it too. Readers around the world are buying the book and feeling happier for it."

I've even shared those mood boosters in the book with friends in the south of Israel, where terrorists have been bombarding civilians with rockets since March 9th. The tips are indeed helping my acquaintances to cope with their fears and then some.

How to Grow from Stress

B'SD

9 Kislev

One of the mental health practitioners who endorse EMPOWER Yourself is world-famous psychiatrist Dr. Abraham Twerski. He specializes in helping people past their addictions. He also addresses other emotional and mental health issues. Listen to what he teaches us about how to respond to adversity/stress, whatever you care to call the things that go kerflooey in life (including ourselves):

Dr. Twerski gives

to addicts and to patients on chemotherapy. He teases me that they call him less after that. "They calm down from reading what you wrote."

Snore No More!

B'SD

12 Tevet 5771

Sleeping is supposed to restore your strength and clarity of thought. But snoring messes them up A LOT.

Here's a quick article link to
Stop Snoring Now and another to an article I like to call Improve Your Memory with Better Sleep.

It's supposed to be common knowledge that a few behaviors promote better, deeper sleep:

Regular Sleep Habits that include
relaxing rituals before sleep time
and same bed-time each night.

Discussing Your Troubles and
possible solutions to them
with someone you trust
before bedtime (keeping
bedtime journals can be
helpful, too)

Letting Go of Stressful Thoughts
Before Bedtime (this includes
apologizing to people you care
about before going to sleep,
praying for insight and guidance
to deal with the issues in your life).

There are alternative healing products that promote sleep, but I hestitate to mention them. You'll be far better off with genuinely natural sleep preceded by good sleep-promoting habits.

Hoping you'll enjoy snoreless, deeper Zzzzzzz...

Holiday/travel season is a major stressor. So are terrorism fears. Take sensible precautions, pray often and reduce your to-do list. Lower your stress levels as best you can, focusing on the sweetness in your life.

Here's an item to lower your trips to the mall and your gift budget. Buy someone a stress-reducing, cost-cutting E-book entitled EMPOWER Yourself to Cope with a Medical Challenge. Click on the flipping pages below for a sample of the text:

Do WIKILEAKS Scare You? Here's Relief!

B'SD

23 Kislev 5771

WOW, Wikileaks are raising blood pressures around the world! I bet that's affecting your health in many ways. Here's something for instant relief and recently released on the Internet:
the Giggle Box Project!

Since it is holiday season when advertisers and acquaintances insist that you "should" feel "happy," you might be feeling sadder than you can handle. Here's another helpful idea: As

advises, do things that leave you satisfied, soothed and rested. The book holds many suggestions for such activities, despite your physical limitations.

Speak with a therapist or member of the clergy who can help you to feel better. Remember what my book advises: work with someone who respects you. Anyone who tries to make your fearful or upset in any way is not someone who should be in your life. Especially not at a low point. Intimidation is NOT spiritual nor helpful.

4 Steps to Getting Unstuck!

B'SD

21 Cheshvan 5771

Pretty splashy image up there, huh? I hope to fill you with as much optimism as that picture implies.

Why?

Jews around the world are reflecting on the Jewish New Year season that passed last month. It seems that everybody else is looking forward to January, but all of us are worrying about the daunting lead-up to it: Thanksgiving season. Xmas parties. Kwaanza fests. Bills. More bills. Tempers. Fourth quarter reports. Bosses cut losses by firing staff. Fear. Panic.

Here's some nifty advice I found in a recent Psych Central Newsletter. I blended it in a way to help you more than the original presentation might:

Here are 4 steps to get unstuck:

Name the stuckness – In other words, simply say to yourself, this is the feeling of being stuck

Find the physical sensation – Take a brief scan of your body and become aware of where you notice the greatest sensation. Get a sense of how large it is, it’s shape, does it have a color? Get curious about it. Getting curious helps us break outside of the box.

See choices – Ask yourself the question, is there another way I can see the situation I’m in? What choices do I have here? See if you can do this without judgment, more as a brainstorm.

If your marriage is taking a beating from you and/or your spouse's reactions to life's little and major stresses, read How to Beat the Odds: Tips from the Very Married.

Take action – Put one foot in front of the other and begin engaging in one of those choices.

Even if the choice doesn’t stick at first, know that this practice in itself is training your mind to get unstuck from the cycles it gets caught in. When you notice yourself wandering into past habitual ways of being, know that is expected and just gently guide yourself back.

Touch Your Toes to SAVE Your Life!

B'SD

7 Tevet 5770

Friends find it amusing that when I stretch, I go a-l-l-l- the way, touching my toes (no, I don't bend my knees) then reaching for the sky. I follow it up with criss-crossed fingers arched upward as my arms push them skyward. Next, my hands go palms up as I pull on my spine for all it's worth. Oooh, that easy Yoga move gets out some kinks so easily!

Here's some food for thought about cardiac health:

Stocking Stuffer Alert! Hanuka Happiness and Cuddly Kwanzaa Holiday Season Gift Ideas

19 Cheshvan

Buy copies of It's MY Crisis! And I'll Cry if I Need To for the gift-giving Holiday season. It's a great way to say "I love you." And it's a terrific way to be good to yourself.

Places of worship can sell It's MY Crisis! And I'll Cry if I Need To in their gift shops and at special events.

Kwanzaa, Xmas and Hanuka celebrants can benefit from this book. Have a holiday? Read my book and find out how to cope with many emotions: joy, sadness, stress, rising and falling moods.

***

Exhaustion, both physical and mental/emotional, is part of the growth process. When you learned how to ride a scooter or bicycle, how to master calculus or how to win somebody's heart, you sometimes felt pretty drained in the process. Think of inner growth as learning how to shed a former inability and how to attain a new skill or ability.

Comfort comes with the sense of satisfaction you feel when you consider, then realize, what you've achieved.

Why is the inner growth process so tiring? My hunch is that it prevents us from wasting energy on unrealistic or unrewarding goals. Think about it. Remember when you spent way too much time and effort trying to accomplish something, then realized (perhaps too late, perhaps in the nick of time) that you were wasting your energy on the project? It was a valuable life lesson. It pays off because it prevents you from making the same mistake again. Now you're blessed with focus, not derailed by blind ambition. Nor are you playing computer games as time flies by during your health crisis.

Realizing that your medical or emotional crisis is tiring you is not a reason for despair. You can make it into a cause for celebration that will recharge your batteries. You're making progress, doing your work to improve your physical and/or emotional state. That need to nap or to kick up your heels is proof positive that you're heading forward. Be sure, though, that the people who love and respect you agree that you're moving in a good direction. A group consensus is likely to be correct. It's neutral, unaffected by your personal prejudices (which might be misleading your objective assessment effort about the situation).

Truth is the light with which you find your way out of darkness. Turn it on.
