National Infertility Awareness Week

B'SD

13 Iyar 5770

I could have realized something was up when I received E-mails and phone calls the past few days, asking me what I recommend for infertility problems, menopause and other hormonal issues. WOW Americans are tuned in to commercial messages!

Er, that's part of the problem. Commercials tout the wonders of hair care products, milk, and coffee, among other heavily advertised goods.

Each of those items hold synthetic hormones wreaking havoc with your health. You can learn more about that by scrolling around this blog.

Anyway, I was tipped off to the existence of National Infertility Awareness Week when I glanced at my Facebook page this morning. Sheesh. If the link doesn't work, you can see the item after joining Facebook.

Want to fill that empty crib?
Cuddle a little loved one
cooing in your arms?

Go organic (no nasty nightmares about unsuspected health hazards) and restore healthy function to your reproductive equipment. You can learn more about that when you read EMPOWER Yourself to Cope with a Medical Challenge.

Medical Care Alert: Your Social Security Funds Might Not Exist When You Need Them

B'SD

19 Iyar 5769

Losing homes, jobs, cars, marriages because of debt. The global economy is in a shambles!

I wonder how Americans tolerate the dangerous and unprecedented gambles that the current president is making with their economic system. Some analysts worry that he'll ruin the
USA's Social Security system, designed back in Civil War days to augment retirement incomes (not that either one are enough - in present economic circumstances - even when added together):

Medicare and Social Security Insurance could run out of cash faster than last predicted, government report expected to show...

Analysts Urge Caution on Health Industry Promises

Watch Me Speak in the USA - Online!

B'SD

23 Shvat 5769

Sorry for the delay. I'm not a technical whiz. That video I promised you, the one of me speaking in January to an American audience about how to cope with medical crises, appears below.

The geniuses who enabled you to see this video on my blog are, in alphabetical order:
Esther Albert, my technical aide extraordinaire

Baruch Bitman, the hardworking "Simcha" videographer who capably compensated for sound though I'd stepped away from the microphone.

Stacey Goldenberg and Keren Traub, heads of
The Gevurat Yarden/Gevurat Rina Jewish Caring Network that helps people in life-threatening medical situations

Here's my live January 2009 presentation to the Gevurat Yarden/Jewish Caring Network audience in Baltimore, Maryland (I hope you'll be able to figure out that I'm rather slim. Due to a severe US-wide cold snap that had just ruined the building's heating system, I bundled up in a sweatshirt right before the camera began to roll so my teeth wouldn't chatter as I spoke. Audience members wore their coats throughout my presentation!):

I took more personalized comments from the audience after the event, to give people the privacy and dignity they deserve. The rapport was electrifying, and everyone smiled though we were discussing issues of life and death.

I hope that my speech inspires you to cope better with your medical challenge and/or crisis. Contact me at
giveretgolani@gmail.com if you need some Self-Help Coaching. I can help you to recognize the skills that you already possess for coping with medical adversity, and I can help you to develop new ones.

Meanwhile, you can buy my book online. Just

Remember one of my key points in the video and the book: Let GOD in on your struggles. Keep the lines of communication open so that you don't shut the door in His face and end the possibilites for recovery, coping mechanisms and hope. Your inner struggles are building the value of your character, your very soul. Let yourself learn what a hero/heroine you can become. And yes I meant it when I said that each of us wrestles with our own hearts to achieve that goal.

We have experiences, heartaches, strengths, weaknesses, and thoughts unique to us. Keep developing your emotional, physical and spiritual self as best you can. Suffered setbacks on all counts? Focus on rebuilding inner strengths. Make it a hobby.

Pollyanna had a good point: the Glad Game takes practice. She didn't want the crutches she'd received as her charity present. She'd hoped for a doll. Then she adjusted her perspective. She was glad she didn't need crutches. Me? I'd have crayoned some eyes, lips and cheeks on one crutch and popped a pretty bit of fabric around the wood. Then I'd have called it my "Yoji Walks Again" doll. I'd have used the second crutch to play stoop ball. And WIN!

Make your own jokes at life. Keep feeding and firing up your
Inner Giggle.

YOU can adopt the attitude of
"At least I'm not falling apart over my medical crisis.
I have coping mechanisms and I'm using them!"

To your improving physical, emotional and mental-spiritual health,

Female Hearts Need Different Medication, Surgical Instrument Sizes, and...

B'SD

14 Shvat 5769

I've blogged about female cardiac health before and I'm still puzzled at the enduring lack of awareness about a woman's need for medical care tailored to the size and chemistry of her heart. The medical world, and the world at large, overlook some critically important realities about female cardiac health. The information is not top-secret, it is in the public domain and horribly overlooked!

That ignorance can kill you, if you're a woman!

I hope to end the ignorance to some degree with today's blogpost.

Here are are some snippets of
necessary information
for women worldwide,
from the Heart Truth Campaign:

"Women must get serious about heart disease and take control of their heart health, starting at an early age," said Elizabeth G. Nabel, M.D., director of NHLBI (the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute). "Younger women need to take steps now, like eating a healthy diet and being physically active, to help prevent heart disease later."

A new survey, conducted in January 2009 shows that 65 percent of women are aware that heart disease is their No.1 killer, a slight increase from 2008. [NOTE FROM YOCHEVED: Ladies, this means that most women fail to understand that 1. female hearts are very physically different from male hearts and therefore have different medical and physical needs, AND that 2. women need to learn how to care for their physical hearts so they can live healthier lives.]

However, even with awareness on the rise, many women do not take this message seriously or personally. One-third of women still underestimate their own personal risk of getting heart disease, and too many -- one in four women -- still die from heart disease. "Understanding your personal risk of heart disease really matters. Having just one risk factor for heart disease -- like high blood pressure or being overweight -- doubles your chance of developing heart disease. And the alarming fact is that more than 80 percent of midlife women have one or more of the risk factors," said Dr. Nabel.

Read the entire NIH press release about
the warnings above at

Here's why I'm so irked at the high level of society-wide ignorance about female heart health: the necessary information is in the public domain, not hidden away in a drawer!

But too many medical "professionals" IGNORE THE INFORMATION!!!!

I wrote about some ground-breaking research and revelations about female cardiac health several years ago. In brief:

  • Women need smaller surgical instruments since our hearts are smaller than those of men.

  • Women have different symptoms of heart disease and heart attacks than men.

  • Female bodies require different medications and in different amounts than men.

  • Medical research about heart health too often fails to include significant numbers of (or any!) women among the research cases!

If your female heart is not healthy,
then you owe it to yourself to hire
the most compassionate, capable,
well-informed cardiologist and cardiological surgeon
possible.

Your LIFE depends on them!

Want to Cheer up an Entire Community?

B'SD

3 Elul 5768

WOW, sorry I didn't post anything yesterday. I've been on the road speaking about my book and how I've made phenomenal recoveries from medical crises.

But, ah, the other reason I lacked time to write to you is because after I completed several days of speaking engagements, my phone line filled with callers from across the country and abroad. Some of those callers were DOCTORS!

It was time-consuming and so very rewarding to speak with so many people from diverse walks of life: A retired NY City police detective, surgeons, therapists, and regular people. My thoughts are literally richocheting around the world and helping people to cope.

I'll be in the USA on speaking tour this December and January, doing my best to cheer up whole communities. I look forward to meeting you, perhaps, while I'm on tour.

Good News spreads, and much more nicely than the other stuff. Cheer up YOUR community, or maybe just someone you know who's facing a medical crisis and feeling crushed by it, when you buy a copy of my book for them or hire me to speak in your area.

All the best,

Yocheved

How My Book Helps People

2 Sivan

Whew, I'm catching up on my blogging late in the day. I encountered some complicated traffic jams to/from Jerusalem today. The delays messed up my daylong schedule. It's road repair and road-building season here. Lots of cops were out giving tickets for some reason or another, slowing traffic even more. So, here we go with today's tardy post:

I habitually carry copies of my book in a see-through carry-case wherever I go. A woman from England spotted me during my hectic day, and called out from the masses of humanity all around me.

"Are you the author of the book you're holding? You ARE?" she exclaimed. "I must tell you how it helped me and several other people."

She related how she'd heard of my book through other people who'd read it. Then she described a daughter residing abroad and living with a terrible back problem. Surgery was just this past week. But convincing the daughter to face surgery and then to make recovery progress afterward was a tall order, the mother told me.

"She'd given me a list of things to be done while she was in hospital. None of it was related to her well-being! I was so upset. She's been negative all along about her deteriorated health. Well, I focused on accomplishing her errands, one of which was to exchange books at a reader's co-op. I took her books there and noticed that one was by a man who had ruled GOD out of his life when he'd been faced with hardship after hardship.
I saw that my daughter was reading negative materials and I simply could not get any sense into her head. I didn't know what to say to her. It all left me wondering, 'What is the purpose of life? Why does GOD give it to us? What ARE our problems for?' As I returned the books, I chatted with the woman in charge of the reading co-op. She raised questions similar to mine as we spoke. Then we corresponded a bit by postal service."

In short order, the troubled mother bought two copies of my book after remembering the "It's inspirational!" praise she'd heard about it. She read one and soon sent the other to her child.

Mom spoke with me for a long time about sundry issues in her life and quoted passages she'd memorized from It's My Crisis! and I'll Cry if I Need To. Our conversation veered from medical problems to family difficulties and SUDOKU to transit schedules. Then she returned to our first topic of conversation: how my book had helped several people she knows.

"I found the answer to my questions in your book! I know why GOD gives us life and hardships! You described a problem as an opportunity to gain new strengths. And you told me that GOD gives us our lives so we can improve on our spiritual strengths and become more spiritually developed no matter what religion we keep. My daughter and I have been discussing those ideas quite civilly. She eventually read your book. I believe she's becoming more positive. Her husband and children are also calming down. Why, I wrote to the author of that negative book and told him to read yours so he can feel happier! He wrote back to me that he intends to! And now that we've chatted, I'm going to write to the woman at the book exchange office and advise her to read it, too!"

That conversationsal exchange was an interesting highlight to my day. Let me hear from you and how you or someone you care about benefited from It's My Crisis! and I'll Cry if I Need To.

And be sure to let me know if the enlarged fonts I used earlier this week were helpful to you. Some readers have let me know that their vision problems prompted them to ask for bigger fonts.

Hear Me Speak on Internet Radio

7 Tevet 5768

Readers of my blog and other people are filling my answering machine and E-mailbox will "attagirl!" messages of praise and approval because they enjoyed my English-language radio interview at http://www.ouradio.org/index.php/ouradio/channel/C299/

Here's a handy glossary of a few words you might need to translate:

HaShem is a Hebrew word for G'D
Emunah is Hebrew for Belief in/Trust in G'D
Simcha is a synonym for "joyous occasion"
Refua is Hebrew for "cure" or "recovery"
Tehillim are psalms. "Pesukim of tehillim" means "verses of psalms"

Robert Goldman alerted me to the live link and gosh the show is making me smile, too! Thanks much for the tip, Robert!

Long-time blog visitor Francisco Hernnandez-Marcos liked the interview so much he posted it to his blog, http://francisco.hernandezmarcos.net/en/

UPDATE: Er, a somewhat frequent bit of skepticism ripples through the crowds listening to me in live and pre-recorded forums. Some people strongly doubt the validity of my concerns about food processing and food packaging methods that damage human health. Or, the doubters want proof of my claims about harmful practices. OK, you asked. I'm responding. See Peril in plastic?

Listen to me on OU Radio, invite to speak in your community, and I can share with you more of my "You can do it; you have choices," thoughts.

I hope that my message fills you and your loved ones with hope. As I tell listeners throughout my dialogue, upbeat thoughts are the best medicine. Light your way to improved health and peace of mind.

Tune in to Hear Me on OU Radio Next Week

20 Cheshvan 5768

Former filmmaker Rick Magder will be interviewing me on OU radio next week. Tune in to http://www.ouradio.org/.

Much of what I will discuss concerns spirituality. The Power of Prayer and focusing on the One Above is not only a spiritual activity it’s also a stress-buster! Think of it this way: you’re making your best efforts to deal with a medical situation. You follow the best ideas and take the best actions a human being can possibly pursue. The results of your efforts, however, are not up to you. That’s GOD’s job.

By giving GOD control of your situation, you relieve yourself of much stress, blame and mental effort. You deal with earthly matters, GOD handles the rest. The deal lets you behave in as dignified a manner as possible. Despite your illness, you can spend your time behaving with civility, cultured manners and a tad more patience than you would without GOD in your picture.

That’s going to have a wonderful effect on people around you. Trust me, doctors and nurses weep plenty. Their job is to heal and to help people. Sometimes they can’t. Even when they help, they cause pain. Then they’re subjected to so much verbal abuse. Even friends and relatives catch the tongue-lashings and temper tantrums. Imagine how relieved everyone will be when you feel more serene!

Yes, I understand the negative response sounding alarms in your mind and throat. Sometimes, GOD says “No.” That hurts. Unimaginably, in a way you can’t talk about with other people. You want to scream, weep, and maybe even throw things. You’re normal! But think of it this way: no matter what happens with the medical crisis you’re facing, you’re not completely responsible for the results. You only have to make your most intelligent, dedicated efforts to cope, to heal to the extents possible, and to acknowledge that you are not alone on this emotional-medical journey.

Listen to my interview on OU Radio and learn even more about how to help yourself without going to the doctor. I'll literally tell you how to change the way you think and behave. THAT can have a profound affect on your physical and mental health!

I’ll share one more thought with you before signing off today. The Secret books and DVDs are selling phenomenally well. But they focus on prosperity. Life is about more than money, property and power. I’m disappointed in the gist of that best-selling series. I prefer the Jewish Secret to Success. It helps many people to persevere despite great odds. And like Levy’s Bread, you don’t have to be Jewish to Love this. You can use it no matter how you pray:

The Jewish Secret to Success

1. Be grateful to GOD for everything
2. Visualize what I/you want
3. Say aloud and focus on the fact that GOD wants to heal us and to give us all kinds of blessings
4. Visualize what I/you want as if I/you already have it frosted with gratitude that GOD actually gave it to me/you even though I/you haven’t received it yet!

You just might be able to talk/visualize yourself into a better state of mind and physical health with those four ideas. Start using them today!

Need an example of how it all works? Listen to this interview with an MD who became a Holistic Healer:

The Energy Healer

Yehuda Ben-Asher M.D., left his position as a successful surgeon to become a healer. He talks with Rick about his life changing journey.

Brain Tumor Awareness Week

20 Tishrei, 5768

"Kind words can be short and easy to speak, but their echoes
are truly endless."
-- Mother Teresa

The Musella Foundation For Brain Tumor Research & Information is blazing a trail to better health for people around the world. Al Musella graciously agreed to let me use some of his foundation's information in It's MY Crisis! And I'll Cry if I Need To.

Many visitors to my blog seek information about brain tumors in order to help themselves, friends or loved ones. I am providing the following post for their benefit:

Al Musella and his staff live the words of Mother Teresa's motto above. Here's one more thought about sharing valid information, reaching out to others, and the purpose of being human:

"Truth is the light with which you find your way out of darkness. Turn it on."
